My new layout expansion project requires a 2nd grade crossing. I'll have to buy another pair of grade crossing gates. They will be run like the first with 2 tortoise switch machines running on 3 volts. 3 volts rather than 12 gives you a much more realistic up and down gate speed. I'll again be using the Logic Rail modules and censors for the gate's operations. I posted this video in the past. Watch the slow movement of the gates.
I was having my oil changed one day near the CSX tracks and videoed a freight as it went by. I took that soundtrack and copied it on to the video. The engine horn and clickety clack are of a real freight train. Most of you have already seen this video. It's for the new members adding grade crossing gates to their layout.

I was thinking about buying some Rapido NH FL9 engines. Thier made in Canada. Will the new tariffs effect the price?

Good afternoon, all! A lovely spring day here in Houston. Temps will hit 80 degrees for a few days then winter will return. Just returned from getting a couple of new tires. Good grief, they certainly have gone up in price. I do get the best Michelin's, for our vehicles but I don't remember paying over $200 for a tire.

A tariff on goods coming into a country is the responsibility of and paid by the importer. The importer then raises the price to the dealer compensate for the tariff. The dealer then adds to the consumer price to cover the increase. So, China, Canada or wherever don't actually pay the tariff, guess who>

Shane Wilson from Scaletrains put out a letter this morning via Facebook. As of right now there is no 10% Tariffs on model railroad items coming from China to the USA. As for something coming from China to Canards then the USA, who knows how that will play out.

I read Shane's letter earlier today, and I'm sure Rapido's response will be similar for now. Hopefully the hobby will dodge a bullet here. I've got pre-orders with Rapido and Bowser due this year. Fingers crossed!

Didn't bother me too much as they use the restrooms at city hall. I just was surprised by 2 cars though...
And thanks for any pictures you can find.

My question with not gluing the ballast is how do you keep it from getting all over?
I normally don't vacuum the layout but when I do, I use a small battery powered vac,
staying away from the ballast. Sometimes I manage to suck up some ballast.
Sometimes I'll disturb some ballast when working on the layout. Easy enough to
apply a little more ballast where needed. Any ballast that gets disturbed ends
up on dirt, grass, concrete areas, or roadway; which are glued down. So,
vacuuming up errant ballast on these areas is not a problem.

I don't use a fan in the basement and I don't open the cellar windows so
there are no drafts to disturb the layout. For the times I need to remove track
or turnouts, it's any easy task and worth dealing with unglued ballast.

Breaking: Looks like an agreement has been reached on both sides of the US... For now

I'm confused why the Fentanyl issue was what broke at the northern boarder. The problem with the drug is in the southern border. IIRC, it was like 19 Kilos stopped at the US Canadian border last year. A drop in the bucket compared to what is coming in from the south:

SOU 2601 arrived today, I programmed the number, and am letting it run and break in. With this, my collection of locomotives I regularly operated is nearly complete. The only one I am lacking is GP7 1835, and I'm pretty sure it will never be produced commercially because it was custom ordered with a tiny fuel tank and switcher trucks.

Yes of course. The idea is that if the foreign products become higher priced, the consumers will opt for less expensive domestic products instead. Leading to loss of business for the foreign exporter. Its a type of leverage over other countries. Actyually before the income tax it was the governments primary source of revenue.

If the product is from a domestic company but manufactured overseas, it could push that company to move their manufacturing back to the country and become domestic, resulting in more jobs etc.

Thats the theory. I'm not here to discuss the politics behind it.

I think that a lot more flows through Canada than they seize or know about. SInce there was really no control on the northern border it could be coming in and we'd never know. Also, at least some of the concern, was that the chemical precursors required to manufacture it was coming across the border, not the drug itself.

Those are some of the points that the articles I've seen were making.

It appears that the current use of Tariffs is more as a hammer to get cooperation on other issues and not purely economic.

I have lost 17 lbs. since the beginning of the year.
That is a lot of weight in five weeks. I worry you could lose muscle, slow your metabolism or some other health problem.
I discovered the no-sugar Ginger Ale many years ago. I mixed it with Cranberry juice for a delicious refresher. However the 2 liter bottles lost their fizz before they were empty.
No flat soda here, I already finished the first bottle.

I was instructed to drink extra fluids to help with low blood pressure. The tea and ginger ale appear to have been my solution. Yesterday my BP was 103/61, that makes three consecutive days I broke 100! 😁
