Good morning all. A dry, cloudy day. A full English breakfast please, Flo.
A busy day ahead the household jobs to attend to. Taking granddaughter to Brownies this evening.

Morning all,

47° and clear going for a high later of 68°

Already working as I had two police officers in waiting at the office when I arrived. They had gotten new phones and had to get them reconnected to our Two Factor Authentication system. Amazes me how often people feel the need to get new equipment, many about once a year. My current phone is over 4 years and still works great.

I need to get some nuts and bolts for the GN boxcar. It is an AHM\Rivarossi model I've had for many years. While not my picture, here is what the boxcar is (mine is in better shape):

I removed the shell and gained access to the base where I drilled out the pins holding the trucks as the were melted to the base metal weight plate. Reminds me of a Blue Box model. It already had good metal wheels and rolls great. I know I need 1/8" by either 3/8" or 1/2" to remount the trucks, but not sure what size for the center of the coupler boxes. I did cut the coupler boxes off the trucks and glued new ones to the base. That's where I left off. It's waiting for me at this time.

I need to take some pics of my ballasting debacle. Some it looked like snow pushed off the sides, kind of humped up. not pleased and much didn't stick. What did stick doesn't look right.

gluing down ballast is i think pretty easy:

- step1: ballast on rail
- step2: with a brush, get it to the right place
- step3: with asprinkler add IPA
- step4: Matt Medium with water added or scenic cement from woodland over everything.
- step5: done

Good Morning All. Clear and 55°. Still forecasting 84° for a high later today. Our record high for today is 87°, 113 years ago in 1911. More recently it was last above 80° in 1976, the first year that I kept gardening records. Clouds tomorrow will keep the high below 70°; 70's and 80's the rest of the week after that. A bit unusual, but typical of that La Niña weather pattern we have here in the winter.

A ho-hum day yesterday, the usual bed linen laundry and some more gathering of firewood and stacking it. The lumberjacks cut a whole lot of it and I need to get it up off the ground and out of the way of mowing. So far I have been spared of mowing this winter due to the lack of rain. But that will change by next week. It's always interesting to read of some of your adventures snow-blowing while I have to mow.
While I don't formally make New Year's resolutions, I am happy that I have lost 17 lbs. since the beginning of the year. The down side is that I need to purchase some new pairs of jeans. I had just bought 2 new pairs in November that are just too big now.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I almost completed the Live Wire Manufacturing kit.

View blocks are included in the kit and they will be added last. I have always used black construction paper for mine, but it's a nice touch that DPM included some pre-cut in the kit.

The rooftop water tank and front sign need to have their dry-transfer decals applied, and they and some piping need to be added.

So, what does Live Wire make? Transformers among other things.

Louis - I discovered the no-sugar Ginger Ale many years ago. I mixed it with Cranberry juice for a delicious refresher. However the 2 liter bottles lost their fizz before they were empty.
Tom O - Nice looking layout that you operated on. One comment though, without trying to be critical. That shiny unweathered rail really detracts from the overall scenes.
David - Sorry to read about the grandson.
Patrick - I'll have to look for it, but I made a series of pictures of ballasting a few years back that might help you.
Must be a little unsettling to have Police officers waiting for you when you arrive at work! It always meant some kind of trouble when it happened to me, although I was never the subject of their presence.
Jay - Best wishes to your girlfriend's recovery.

Today is the 65th anniversary of "The Day the Music Died", the day of the fateful plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.

Everyone have a great Monday.

Didn't bother me too much as they use the restrooms at city hall. I just was surprised by 2 cars though...
And thanks for any pictures you can find.

My question with not gluing the ballast is how do you keep it from getting all over?

I glue mine down with ISO, white glue and a drop of Dawn. I used to not glue mine down, I found it would migrate around if not, especially if subject to the vibration of heavy steam engines at high speed. . Best tools, a spoon and a 1 1/2 " paint brush.

I don't glue the ballast. Also, I don't glue the track. The track is held down with brad nails that are used
in a pneumatic nail gun. Not that it happens very often, it makes it a cinch when track needs to be taken
up.
Glad to know there is someone else who does not glue the track down. (I pin the track down using track pins.)

I put ballast down like anyone else. Add scenery to the edge of the ballast. Done. The ballast has stayed where put.

If I needed to remove any track, simply unpin and remove. Save the ballast for later.

Edit :- A few posts together. :)

Like I have mentioned the ballast has remained in place.

Vibration. Never had any problem - even when the grandchildren run trains at 300mph. 🤣

Good mornin' y'all. It's 47 and clear in Cheyenne with winds from the WNW @ 10mph with gusts to 18. Looking for a high today of 60 and low tonight of 23. No precipitation in forecast for today but maybe some snow later in the week.
Our first Monday in Cheyenne, getting out a little later get some banking business done and check out the local Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. Trying to find NJ(ret.) a hobby. Her main priorities for the last 50 years have been nursing and family. Although for the last 2 years she just worked 3 nights a week (Fri-Sat-Sun), she misses the routine and her interaction with patients and co-workers.
Louie: I need to check out that cranberry ginger ale cocktail. Sounds refreshing!
David: Lovely English countryside garden scenes! Ready for that full English breakfast.
Patrick: Ballasting... as Charlie Brown would say, "aaugh!!" Backwoods sawmill stuff doesn't use a lot of ballast but I have in the past used thinned Mod-Podge applied with an eyedropper.
Wllie: Live Wire looking good. Kids today think a transformer is a robot that folds up unto a Camaro...
Looks like it's about time to refill the Love's mug. Y'all have a good Monday and take care.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with and without ballast.

it's Troy again.

Been up since 5:30. But had some work to do.

Mondays are laundry day (half done) and clean the cat's water fountain with vinegar. (done)
Trip to grocery: done except I forgot to look for a couple of bottles of my favorite Canadian whiskies. 1792??? and Monkey Shoulder. I'll go look later and see if the price has preemptively jumped.

And I took the big box of miniatures off to the UPS store. IF the transaction concludes with the buyer happy, and the money still in my account, I'll pick up at least one more engine, and another box of flex track and some turnouts before the prices start jumping. Fingers crossed that the buyer is legit and doesn't pull his money back on some lame excuse.

I started working, not the the kickstarter, but on my automated emails for my author account. When someone downloads a "Secret Chapter" linked at the end of the first book, it triggers a series of auto emails. I had the second "your link to the next book doesn't work" so checking that moved to the front burner.

And I'm glad it did, I had to fix five emails in the sequence. Which on its face wasn't time consuming, but I decided to make a new "Universal Book Link" that links to all the major online stores that carry my ebooks, with my own Shopify store the BIG BUTTON at the top.

And I had to do that for the first three books in the series to get all the emails up to snuff.

Today was supposed to be Work on the Kickstarter Fulfillment day. And it will be. Right after lunch. That's going to take some time. Spreadsheets, emails, and setting up delivery carts online for each group of ebooks people purchased.

I forgot about it yesterday, but some of you might remember the adventures of Puxaphil from the Feb 2024 Coffee Shop thread. I didn't have the motivation to write a new adventure for him, but here's a pic of the brave adventurer on his quest to slay the forces of Winter.

She a model railroader as well, and have a layout?
Yes. Three battery powered locomotives and rolling stock.

She brought some of it to our house to show.

We very rarely see her as daughter, Sil and grandchildren live some distance away. Dawn hears from our daughter and granddaughter, Julia) daily.
When Julia visits she will take away some of my boxes of scenery then sends me a picture of her work.
