Well, howdy there internet peeps.

Good to see Mel has the Full English Breakfast back on the menu. I'll skip the blood sausages tho. Not vampiric this morning.

Got the three armies boxed and ready to ship to vegas. His money is still in my paypal account.

Good thing, because it's $75 with insurance to ship a 24x24x16 box to Vegas. It's big because the foam display board for one set of models is 19x24 in. And a lot of the models are units on the same base, with terrain. And the models have spindly bits. I did a lot of make a base out of foamcore, then hotglue green or pink foam to it surrounding the models, now locked in place. Wrap that with bubble wrap, and pile them in the box. Separate groups with wadded packing paper, and more bubble wrap. About half the weight (17 lb) is packing and the box.

Wife hasn't told me where she's going for lunch today. I either let her drive, or I have to run around and open her door for her. She's independent enough to get her own door, but now it hurts to push and pull with her right arm.

So far no trouble breathing. No pain with breathing. She'll go see her sis the nurse this afternoon when they visit Mom. Yes, I'm dropping her off on my way to the game store.

Hoping for good weather in Northern Indiana next Saturday. Wife said she'd go with me. The Das Dutchman Essenhaus has great Amish style cooking in their restaurants, and lots of quilting and crafting stores in their complex. She can shop her stuff, while I prowl the aisles. Then we go get great food!

I am on a soda run to buy eggs. She needs 3 dozen and the ad claims they are at $4.69 a dozen
I had to buy 2-liter bottles of soda. Imagine my shock when I saw $3.99 each! I normally buy 16.9oz bottles, but none were on sale. Fortunately, they had 2-liter bottles of zero sugar Canada Dry Ginger Ale buy two, get three free. That is still almost $1.60/2-liter. I've been drinking cocktails. Homemade zero sugar iced tea and ginger ale. I discovered I like it by accident when I poured iced tea into my cup of ginger ale.

Next weekend, Super Bowl weekend, I should see more sales on sodas.

I paid $4.69 for a dozen Jumbo eggs.

I found a pleasant surprise, Maxwell House 100% Colombian Coffee 24.5oz for $7.99

I also need gas that they figured on local TV last night that it would be $.20 per gallon higher than Friday
I was surprised to see gas for $3.07 this morning. It was $3.21 yesterday.

It is what it is
Amen, there is certainly nothing we can do about it.

We don't make the rules, we just play the game.

I'm fat and happy, thank God. Well, I'm not fat anymore, but I always eat good! You know what I mean.

Good morning all!

Happy Groundhog day.!

Yesterday was an all day volleyball tournament. Long day, we were there 12 hours. It was all worth it as our girls played all 4 games flawlessly and won it all! It was good to see them play as we all know they can when they play as a team.

Not much else going on today. Its being called a recovery day.

Have a safe enjoyable Sunday everyone!

Evening all,

Well, got home after work and then took the oldest grandkid to the train show. He gets in free with his scout uniform and I got bonus spending money as I got a $1 admission as a vet.

This is what I got...

The Accurail kit was the first one I've ever seen for a RR society. I got it for $10. The Kadee 520 wheelsets were $30 for the 7 packages and the 2 packs of N-scale cars were $8.

The wheelsets were from a Train Club that inherited a members stash and they decided to sell at estate sale prices. They had a case of about 100 of them that the member was going to use on his BB models. They were $10 to $12 a package at the retail vendors at the show.

The n-scale cars are the grandsons. He could have gotten other things as well, but didn't really seem to be into it as much this year.

Overall, nothing I needed, but great deals that I couldn't pass up. Wish I had bought more wheelsets, but with the other sets I still have, it will be a while before I can get them used.

Didn't win any Super Bowl tickets. And my socks were clean! 😁
Nice haul!

Good morning from snowy Wisconsin. I’m not sure how much but it’s not much, maybe 1-2”. I was told to do a soda run today as today is the last day of 4-6 packs of 16.9 oz bottles for $12.00. While the eggs are on sale @ $4.69 a dozen for 4 dozen max and a pharmaceutical pickup. All in the same store. Because of the snow I will eliminate the LHS trip I planned to use the gift certificates received for Christmas. I don’t need much but a couple Sd70aces to be stripped and re-painted would look good. We will see how the day goes before I head out. With high 30’s now and 40’s this afternoon the snow should be gone soon, but sloppy

Yesterday’s operating session went well but I did botch a move and than 2 more in one of the yards that tied up part of the layout. Mostly my fault and some of the computer system. Seems my train disappeared from the dispatch center computer screens and dispatch allowed a couple trains to box me in while I was trying to fix my mistake but compounding everything. I heard about it from the dispatcher who is crusty anyway. The owner while we ate re-booted the system and after lunch there were no issues. But, I will hear about my mistakes in the yard for years. The guys at lunch started ribbing me pretty good.

I am going to make a grove of Weeping or trembling aspens for the layout I was at yesterday. Set in Montana featuring the Marias Pass he has done a wonderful job. He’s been buying his trees but avoiding the Aspens and I discussed with the owner about that. He’s part of the Thursday work crew and has seen my trees on a couple other layouts. I will start with a grove of 21 about HO scale 50 to 60’ tall. Next op session at his place is 3/1, so plenty of time. A few of many pictures, his trackwork, locomotives and rolling stock is flawless. Computers sometimes get wonky but in 6 sessions I’ve been to it’s only the 2nd computer issue

This just in:::

The granddaughter will be dropped off in a few minutes. She doesn’t want to go to anymore hockey games her brother is not playing in this weekend. Her parents and brother are heading to the grandsons good friend’s playoff game because the grandson’s team has already qualified for State playoffs. I don’t blame her. I told her to stop at Kwik Trip for donuts

Enjoy the day

Good mornin' y'all. Its 37 and cloudy in Cheyenne this am. Wind chill 27 with winds from SSW @ 10 gusting to 14. A morning shower in the area; otherwise, mild with times of clouds and sun, becoming windy this afternoon. Looks like some frozen stuff in a couple of days. One nice thing about being retired is I don't have to get out in that stuff everyday.
SIL has been remodeling his game room; gifted me and moved his old gaming desk, chair and HD monitor downstairs to my corner workbench/desk area. He's a former Cornhusker tight end and martial arts instructor so he can move stuff like that... He's also a really nice guy.
So, spent yesterday afternoon setting things up. Might get out later today and shop for some miscellaneous items. I did bring my toolbox and some assorted stuff, but all the rest like kits, paints, etc is still in the mover's warehouse.
See some of y'all got to train shows this weekend and picked up some good stuff and had a good time. I think the Sherman Hill MRRC show is June 28/29.
About the cowboy boots and hat Hughie mentioned; Even though I'm a life-long Texan, I've never owned a pair cowboy boots mainly because of my flatfeet, just can't wear them. I used to wear Wellington-style boots a lot but had to start wearing lace-ups about 20 years ago. I do have a Stetson hat my father-in-law gave me a long time ago, but rarely wear it. Never really cared for brimmed hats.
Breakfast bell is ringing so y'all have a good day and take care.

Good (late) afternoon all.
Just heard.

Youngest granddaughter was being bullied by the school bully (a girl). Now the granddaughter can stick up for herself, but was getting the rough end of the fight. Seeing his sister getting hurt, in waded our grandson. School bully did not like that, so told teacher?
Grandson is now in serious trouble. WHAT!!!!!

I ran a few trains

Some of you know I am a member of Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society. Apart from receiving magazines and access to their archive, every so often I receive a hard back book. That book alone is worth more than the annual subscription.

On Friday I received this 'gem'. An absolute wealth of information throughout. Information still relevant to my timeframe of modelling.

The lady who raised me would say "It's good they are talking about me; they will leave somebody else alone."

He is a good man, not boy, man. I often tell my grandsons "Do the right thing, regardless of risk or reward"

Got some more done on the double crossover. The photo is real, but I drew in the home single to see how it will look when I buy 4 of them. There will have to be 4 because you can't crossover in either direction without a home signal dictating your speed and next signal aspect. Now I have to go under the benchwork to hook up the tortoise switch machines. I will also have to add some above model switch machines.
Swal

Spent most of my time breaking up clunky ballast and getting the switches in the yard working again. Not sure why a lot of it didn't stick and what did looks like cement chunks. I was able to recover a lot of it and will make a different attempt, but thinking about taking a brush and painting a lot of the cork underlay instead.

Found I had a dead siding in the yard, but couldn't figure it out. Fortunately, it was a loose wire in the zone block controls. Found a couple of others that had worked loose as well. Still not sure what's what as my 6 wheel truck E7's now don't like my crossover tracks. Everything else is fine across the same point. I did run a couple of trains for a few hours while I was working on the track.

Lastly started to change to couple of couplers on a GN AHM boxcar. I need some short bolts and nuts to fasten the trucks without the coupler boxes back to the base and something to hold the new coupler boxes I attached to the base instead of the trucks. Have some small holes to drill in the base for the centers of the coupler boxes.

Everyone must of been at train shows or outside enjoying the unseasonable warmth.

Or hiding in the basement on the layout.

All for now.

Good evening. Flo, please a warm diet Dr Pepper as the throat is scratchy.

I spent time in the train room, almost 3 hours of clean up. I just cannot believe how when you do track realigning how out of sorts the room gets! It’s back to presentable again.

My operating session tomorrow is a 2 hours and 3 minutes drive north in good weather. 1 of my drivers is sick and the other had a 2 hour open house for the local NMRA Division at 3pm and 3.5 hours later he chased the last guys out! He’s not feeling the best! I don’t want to drive tomorrow but I can if I need to

I am having an internal debate on how my layout will be operating in March. Do I use card cars or a switch list? I see the pros and cons for both on paper, except I don’t like car cards. My main Crew members prefer the car cards over a switching list. Both are pains to make up.

I have decided to number the doors in the Cold Storage logistics center where there are 6 doors. Doors 2 and 4 will hold up to 60’ cars and the rest can handle 80’ reefers. The doors will be numbered 2,4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. At least one car per session will need to be spotted at a particular spot. That may mean moving other cars to get there! I will do the same in the paper mill for the tank cars. I have bleach, acid cars, dry chemicals (covered hopper) and molten sulfur to deliver and those will be for certain spots. The molten sulfur car will be exchanged every 3rd operating session. The dry chemical car will be switched every other session and the acid and bleach cars every session. I will triple check the formulas to cars shipped out to inbound loads. I know for every carload shipped out in a 60’ boxcar I need 5 pulp wood cars or 3 wood chip cars. For every ethanol tank car loaded I need 7 grain cars coming in. The grain terminal is modeled as part of an ethanol plant that is not. The ethanol load-out is being modeled. I forgot about all the nitty gritty stuff you need to have done before sessions. I have 37 cars that will be on the layout. Of those 12-15 cars will be fiddled off the layout replaced by others. I should add more staging. I have 111 cars I can use in the era I model, modern 2015 to 2020. 86 of the cars and 5 of 11 locomotives are weathered, surprise there, huh!

Enjoy the evening
