Good morning all. A wet and miserable looking day.
Under doctor's orders to relax and take it easy, so a large coffee please Flo. I'll sit in the corner and watch the world go by.

The 49s may have lost, but Leeds United (49s own the club) won again last night and moved into second place in the table. :D:D:D

Why not, that one needs a little love as well!

You did so well on the first one! :D
I like it. Should've accepted it. Free is always good. :)
That looks like a RPP shell on an Athearn GP-something frame.
On doing some research I've found the loco my sister wants to send me is on eBay for the princely sum of £53 it's DCC hardwired, so this is what, a '70s maybe '80s Athearn model, I've still told her not to buy it for a couple of reasons, one it's not worth £53 in my opinion,(£25-£30 at most) so it's an old motor and mechanism and simply the state it's in.

If you look at the first two fotos, Im not sure if it's simply paint flaking or zinc rot.

However, the main reason is that my sister and BIL both live on state pensions (my sister is soon to be 71 and my BIL 75), I'd rather they spend the money on themselves or food than yet another locomotive her brother doesn't need, remember, I have close to 100 already, I already have three examples of the Sante Fe RR in their Silver/Red, Blue/Yellow and Red/Grey colour schemes.

Good morning on this totally ridiculous fake Hallmark day. My wife knows I love her and she doesn’t need flowers (ever) (but will take chocolate) and a card (just on our wedding anniversary and birthday). An occasional surprise gift and an every now and then concrete mixer from Culver’s is enough.

Had sticker shock though at Culvers last Saturday. A take away (for the granddaughter and me) was over $40 with tax. But they also now offer mini concrete mixers at $4.79 each. Got 2 for dessert! They don’t tell you the ounces of the concrete mixer, they now go by calories. From the website, a mini is 380, the small is 680, a medium is 820 and large is 1260 calories and is about the size of the old medium before Covid. Our Culvers proudly states the starting wage is $18.00 per hour with no experience. So the food pricing is now understandably reflecting that. The McDonald’s down the street and Taco Bell are advertising starting wages of $18.25 with no experience. I’m wondering what the staff who have been there for years are making.

Getting the layout ready today for 6 of the operating Crew including the soon to be new owner of the house coming tomorrow morning. A last minute get together. I have 3 bar height stools for the paper mill area and 3 counter height stools scattered around so I can follow trains but also park myself if my knee gets sore.

2 pool sessions for the knee yesterday. The morning session like today was at 5:00am as I can’t seem to be able to sleep past 4:45. The 2nd session yesterday was before dinner from 5:15 to 5:45, showered and dinner at 6:15. Just a bowl of beef rice soup and 4 chicken wings. I also made 2 trips (I forgot the iPhone so no idea how many steps but it’s almost 900’ one way) to the mail box and back on the concrete driveway, it was very tiring. The doctor said I cannot yet walk the gravel trails. So hopefully another walk on the driveway before the snow starts this afternoon.

Except for some piles of snow we are snow free of any ground cover. They are saying for this afternoon late and overnight either 2-5” of wet heavy snow or 1/4 to 1/2” of rain. Because it’s been awhile for any snowfall the crazies will be all over the roads and ditches as they remember how to drive on the white stuff again.

enjoy your day

Morning all,

38° and clear with a high later of 66°.

Happy Valentine's day. On this date 42 years ago, I met the young lady with whom I would spend the rest of my life. Surprised she hasn't killed me yet. She keeps telling me I need to get a hairpiece as she didn't marry a bald old man. I remind her I married a 24 year old and she's not 24. In May we'll be married 41 years.

Since Culvers is in many posts lately, Wichita has finally broken ground on their first Culvers and we're getting one within the next 8-10 months here in the city I work for as well. I also received in the mail from one of my daughter's a gift card to Culvers. Now if they'd just get the places opened...

Good Morning!
It might be starting out at 15F, but come this afternoon it will warm-up to a reasonable 22F.

Rather than give the wife a few dying and wilting flowers, I bought her a dozen flower seed packets from her favourite online greenhouse. She'll start them in the house, and transfer to the garden come spring. That's her hobby.
Thank you almighty, for allowing me to skirt around another useless event!

Some time ago, when I was just starting and had this rail empire vision in my head, I purchased a bridge pier kit. It was a mistake, because what I actually wanted was a bridge abutment kit. I just never really thought about the difference, at the time.
Anyway, I wound up with this kit, that I'll try to employ as an abutment kit:

In about 1hr, I'll have this simple kit put together. The only thing getting in my way is the dog walk.
Truth is, there are more spare parts in that box than parts I'll use.
This is the type of flat plastic kit that will only work if one can weather the plastic properly. If not, it will just be a couple of flat plastic boxes. Maybe good enough to hold some pencils.
This is going to be a learning experience, twice over:

David - If the doctor says take it easy, you better do that. Maybe you could build some simple bridge piers.
Curt - Looks like a real nice kit, with a-lot of roofs.
Willie - You know I don't drink, so I'll be the designated driver.
Bigfoot - I like the rusty drums. Nice you can print your own stuff.
Troy - Better to buy seeds than bags of flour.

Still dark outside, so the dog will wait for daylight. Maybe I'll get to gluing flat plastic, and try to keep it square.
Have a great day!

This is a model of a Santa Fe GP60M, manufactured by EMD between 1985 and 1994. The Athearn model came out in the mid to late 90's. That's paint flaking off or an attempt at weathering, because many of those parts shown are plastic.

SO MANY PRIOR POSTS THAT I GIVE UP REPLYING THIS MORNING - BESIDES, I doubt anyone really wants to hear my trials.
First day of Chemo was a blast (not) - needless to say that I had almost forgotten that my body has that many holes to "LEAK" from ... They were all used and changed within the last 18 hours... pants, underware, pajamas, and sheets. There, Did I gross you out? -- DID ME!

Spent my last C Note and sent the DIL to obtain some flowers for my bride yesterday afternoon - cannot believe how much everything is anymore! I cannot complain over her. The spousal Unit has been a godsend on keeping up with my appoints, making sure that she understands what the hell is going on, and hauling my $$s all over.
NOW, that I have ruined everyone's day, I will return you to your regular programming!

TERRY - Good vibes for your next venture.

GUY - That's a winner - Make her work for those flowers!

Thank you Willie, I am always amazed at the amount of knowledge you have when it comes to locomotives, and railroading in general, you are truly a master.

But I'm still not letting her buy it. :)

Good morning gang!

Playing hookey today with the wife. Not only is it Valentine’s Day but also Sharon’s birthday. I am taking her later to her hairdresser for a cut and color, then Mission Barbecue for dinner. I also have to hit HD for furnace filters and to get more keys cut for the shed. We’re down to on last set!

Sherrel, you got this, it will get better, I believe you have better days ahead, hang in there friend!

Chris Like Willie says athearn GP60 made in 1995 the trucks and running gear fit other athearn models the truck #46011 athearn still sells new $30 for the pair and yes plastic body like all athearn engines
But look at the handrails and stanchions they are metal the stanchions are the a old style that wrap around the wire handrail
If the seller will take offer might be worth a lower price It is hard wired for DCC

edit that has the 84040 motor the same one you ordered for your DD40 engine

Good Morning All. Happy Valentines Day, and Ash Wednesday. Clear and 40°; might hit 70° today and tomorrow. Ten day forecast looks great with chilly temperatures just Friday and Saturday nights.

Valentines Day and my wife's birthday fall close together, just two days apart. Before we married, I told her it was one or the other, she picked birthday. Last night we celebrated both by going out to eat at Houlihan's. What was already an overpriced place is even more overpriced now, but that's where she wanted to go. It was a bit disappointing though; the food was great, but they were crowded and the waitress admitted that it was her first night there. She also had five tables instead of the normal four, so that didn't help. We got the appetizer before the drinks and she got my order wrong, the Kansas City burger instead of the Kansas City Strip Steak. The manager stepped in and fixed that and comped half the cost of the steak ($15). Overall we spent an hour and 45 minutes there instead of our normal hour. Not really a big deal as we had nothing else to do.

Earlier in the day she surprised me by informing me that I had to drive her to her eye doctor appointment, since they intended to dilate both of her eyes. It was at a really inconvenient time which interfered with my time out in the train shed later.

During that shortened visit to the train shed, I only spread ground cover and started placement of the stone pillars and entry gates. I also built one of the two mausoleums that came with the second cemetery kit, but I left the camera outside so no pictures until tomorrow.
Here we go with some more from the archive that I may have posted before, but I don't remember all that I have posted.

Terry - Good luck with the transition between jobs. I wish you well. I agree with reading about the death of model railroading, which I have been reading since the mid-70's. It ain't happening. Using cell phones to drive trains should bring more youngsters into the hobby, as their cell phones are a permanent part of their bodies.
Patrick - Belated Happy Birthday.
Your wife thinks that you need a hairpiece? Mine keeps reminding me that I didn't have a beard when she married me 51 years ago...I was too young to have a decent one at the time. But I've had it for 49 or 50 years now and she's stuck with it.
Guy - I never purchased dead flowers for any occasion. I have however, picked wildflowers from my property to decorate the house interior. I like the idea of buying seed packets.
Cheri - Welcome to the Coffee Shop.
Swal - I admire all good Boogie Woogie piano players, especially since I have never been any good on any musical instrument. And I have tried playing several over the years. That's why I switched over to strictly listening many years ago.
Mike (Old 97) - You want rock history, I'm your guy.

Today could have been Jimmy Hoffa's 111th birthday had he not gone into hiding.

Y'all have a wonderful day.

The existing employees probably aren't getting paid much more. From what I've seen, when companies boost their starting wage to attract they don't boost existing wages the same amount. They give a token boost. I have no real knowledge; just what I've seen.

The stupid thing is that the $18/hr is no more buying power than the $12/hr was a few years ago.

Its not quite that high around here. I believe its about $17 an hour. Sad thing is they still cant find enough people to work.

Our CVS in town has changed hours because they don't have enough staff to keep the store open the 12 hours or so most are operating. They have had an add for cahiers starting at $17 hr for a long time. Probably could negotiate more if one was motivated to do so.

Imagine being in high school now. I would have 2 jobs and a pocket full of money. Sadly most don't want to work!

Rant away if you need too!

All I can say is hang in there, fight the good fight!

My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Good morning ALL!!!
Bill, I appreciate you being here every day to flick the lights and set flame to main coffee pot.
On the subject of appreciating, Flo, that's the best valentine's sweater I've seen yet!
Here's some candy to match it.

Heart-Candy-740x493.jpg

Okay, when you're done giving me the look, could you please place my order for the #6 breakfast menu item?
Yup! "The El Grande Del Rio Pacifico Garbage Platter"!!!!
How should I know what's in it? Tasted good last time, plus I didn't eat until the next day. o_O 🤔😊
Something about the way you shake your head while snapping chewing gum, makes me want to keep coming here.
