Good Morning All. Clear and 38°, warming up to 60° later on. Tomorrow will be colder, but I won't be here long. I'll return Sunday to mid-70's and thunderstorms. Yesterday continued the warm trend with a high of 78°.

As I have posted, tomorrow we leave for Memphis TN for my Aunt's funeral, burial and Celebration of Life on Saturday. She was also my Godmother. While there are many memories, my fondest is one in 1958 when she took me to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and I got to tour a submarine and an aircraft carrier. There was a battleship there, but we didn't have time to tour it.

Meanwhile on the home front, the weekly grocery/beer trek is today, although I might skip the beer today since I have built up too much of a surplus. Groceries will also be light since we won't be here. Wife will probably take the car to be washed while I shop, even though it is supposed to rain from here to there and back for the next three days. Yesterday was another fine day here and I actually mowed a bit.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I just ran trains for a while. Just didn't feel like modeling. No lost interest or anything like that, I just wanted to operate.
From the archives, some engine pictures from a day of railfanning in Vernon. It was a busy day. First a pair of GP35's from Kato.

Then a trio of GP40X's from Athearn.

Finally on the main line, a pair of SD40-2's also from Athearn.

Sherrel - Glad to read that you're feeling better.

Everybody have a great day.

Morning all,

Another day another F'ed up project. Had an "upgrade" to a product we use and now they're back in it attempting to get it running properly. 2nd one in as many weeks. Still keeps me from doing other things I badly need to do as well. I do like the overtime. Boosts my SSI payments down the road, I hope. Also more to put down on the house. I had Monday the 13th off, and still ended up working some overtime last week. I have some straight time overtime this week due to the holiday.

On a side note, the grandson becomes an official teen tomorrow.

Well, back at it...

They are the same company, like Ford and Mercury, or Chevrolet and Buick.

No, they actually aren't. Hyundai owns about 34% of Kia and is the minority owner with controlling stake. Originally Hyundai had 51% after a 1997 KIA bankruptcy, beating Ford for control, but Hyundai have divested some since to get to just under 34%. Kia is also part owner of several Hyundai related companies, with minority stakes.

Hyundai controls Kia and they share technical platforms and stuff.

While not the same, the Renault -- Nissan -- Mitsubishi Alliance is similar in that there is cross ownership and heavy technical/platform sharing and cooperation.

Late morning to you guys there ... Lots of weather around here for the next few days.
Started off with another 1/4 inch of rain - Usually get more than the official due to where the "official" gauges are. The rising terrain just to the East and South cause additional rain than is measured - if that makes any sense, or even if you really care?
Listing to the TV weather this morning has everything in it. Rain, Snow, Sleet, and Ice in the higher elevations. A forecast high of 48 today and seems to be the average for the next several days with lots of cloudiness. My "green" energy is failing! When I need the solar for electric heaters - it is cloudy and cold making the natural gas bill in the stratosphere.

Enough grumbling - stay safe everyone.
I seem to have the head cold being pushed out - still congested, but feeling better.

So it looks like around 18" of snow, from what I've read, is what fell in my area, with similar amounts throughout much of the valley. The ski resorts reported more. Lots of wind and drifting so we had 4' drifts last evening at the bottom of our driveway, with the blown snow hitting my son's car and depositing around it, while neighbors without cars parked in the driveway had much less as it all blew away.

Two pics I just took this morning of our backyard and front yard. Have not been to the house construction site yet. Hopefully nothing blew over. I need to make sure the sidewalk that fronts our property is cleared. Usually someone with an ATV and plow on it does the sidewalks but it is my responsibility so I have to go up after breakfast and check. I'll be back there this afternoon to start shoveling out the house so we can get back to work.

More snow scheduled by the weather guessers starting Sunday, though right now it appears to be just 30-40% per day chance and not likely huge accumulation. We'll see how that pans out.

Back yard -- got some glare but there is quite a lot of snow that fell / blew into our postage stamp, sloped, back yard.

Front taken from the front door. Not much happened last evening after the driveway was shoveled/blown out. We have a small 80v battery snow blower that does a decent job for our mini driveway but in some areas it was too deep and we had to shovel it down first. Wife and 2 kids did all the work while I was blissfully unaware doing the day job work in the basement.

Good Morning all.

The precipitation has left the area finally. Have no clue as to how much. Had it been 2 degrees colder we would of needed an end loader to dig out.

Today started out with thick fog, now it's just cloudy, damp, and very windy.

Good day to head to the basement before the wife finds something for me to do.

Have a great day, Stay safe!

Ice/sleet/snow/sleet/ice yesterday and last night now needs to be cleaned up before noon today. It looks like about 7” of accumulation out there. The daughter‘s house 2 miles to the south of us has ice and maybe 2” of snow per the son in law. This is the 4th Thursday in a row that the local schools are closed or switched to online learning. I am not looking forward to fighting with this mess.

Today is finish up some weathering projects and continue the one with the locomotive. I am told a trip to Walgreens is needed, dinner is out and then a play. A new version of Jesus Christ Superstar that supposedly is a darker more ”vivid” version. Whatever the heck that means.

My HyVee Pharmacy sent out a email yesterday explaining the Ozempic diabetes medicine shortage in our area. They can get the drug just don’t figure an overnight fulfillment of the order. Allow 3-5 days. Ozempic as we have discussed is still not approved as a weight loss drug. The side effect of diabetics and users (like me) using it is weight loss. But doctors have a way around it and are doing so for the folks that can pay the price. This diabetic thinks that’s pretty f..king sad

off to play in the ice/snow
Ya Ozempic - have the same problem although the VA has come through when needed. The people with the ID 10 T problem think that they will loose 12Lbs over and over and over again. Ya get once. There must be easier ways to loose 12 - maybe not eat 4 squares a day? Skip lunch if 3 squares a day? Maybe even push their butt's away from the feed bag? Geesh ... get smaller plates. And Heaven forbid, cardio exercise.

As a side note, got my blood work from my yearly couple of weeks ago. A1C went up .1 - crap. So I cut way down on the white again. Geesh, have dropped 4Lbs since. Hope I don't wither away....

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores today then basically vegged out for most the day. My car ladders should be in tomorrow and I'm taking the car up to Jon for painting next Thursday. I think I'm scheduled to chauffer MOH around tomorrow. :(

Joe- Great photos. You're right about the manufacturer's producing unique models in great numbers like the Pennsy Hammerhead.

Smudge- That is a cool layout, but the passenger car is way too big for the layout.

Willie- Nice lineup of motive power. Have a safe trip.

Chad- That's a lot of snow.

I hope everyone has a good night.

That looks like a salamander? Haven't seen one since i was a kid back home - used to catch them.
Am I correct?
Yes, sir!

Spotted Salamander, which happens to be our state amphibian. I never knew much about these little guys, but just learned that they can live up to 30 years, and can not only grow back a leg or a tail, they can also grow back part of theik head and brain...

This is the second one we've seen here in about 6 years. They are common, but it's not common to see them, as they spend most of their time under stuff like decaying logs and leaf litter.

I also learned that when you see them like this in the Spring, they are about to breed... which makes sense, since it's walking toward a pond. The article I read said it's not uncommon to see hundreds within a few days, as the mating season is very short lived, and they all kick into procreation mode at the same time...

I am shocked that you are all replacing copper, I never even knew that it was an issue.
Partly due to pipes freezing and cracking during the deep freeze here in February 2021. Our rural water coop failed to register as a protected utility and was then subject to the rolling blackouts. Their pumps froze and no water pressure to customers like me who rely on dripping faucets as added protection against frozen pipes. In this part of the world, many homes are built with some exposed pipes under pier and beam houses. The PEX piping expands and does not normally burst even if the water inside it freezes. The scrap value of the removed copper paid for the PEX and the shark bite connectors.

When you bring up Salnon cakes it takes me back. My MIL made the best salmon cakes with fried potato's and onions, and creamed peas for lent. Unfortunately it was one of the recipe's my wife didn't get before her passing. We have tried several time to replicate, but cant make them near as good.

My wife made chocolate chip pancakes topped with strawberries tonight for Lent.

For lunch we had the Filet-o-Fish☹️

This is what we use, even I can make them. It's best if my wife fries them.
