House update. Last Wednesday I contacted the distributor for Nudura, from whom I have been getting my ICF block. I wanted to get a referral for getting help with the pour of the next (main floor) level when we are ready. I did not like the guys work, who did the basement -- did not follow ICF pour instructions, poured too fast, gotbulges and waviness etc. (All under grade and so not such a big deal there but I don't want that in the above grade).
He gave me a guy's name and number, which seemed familiar, though I couldn't place it. I called him and made introduction and he seemed amenable to helping with the pour, and also said he could help with other stuff -- framing, doors, whatever. He is a long time contractor and house builder. I mentioned help with getting the rest of the main floor ICF done and he said he could do that. He would be willing to work al a carte on services. He agreed to come out and take a look at what we are doing.
Thursday my BIL came down for our 3 day sprint and this guy came by and I showed him what we had done what we were doing, etc. I had already sent him the plan. Later that afternoon he texted me his hourly price and I agreed for 2 people, 2 weeks at 40 hours a week at his rate ( for now). Pour to be separate.
In texting I noticed I had texted with the guy 2 years ago and he mentioned, after meeting, that he recognized me and my son from the Nudura installer training we did in Feb 2020. He has been working with ICF for 30 years but it seems Nudura was a newer ICF product so he was in the training class to learn the differences and best practices for that brand.
Anyway, he and his son showed up Friday and based on his suggestions on how he normally did windows and doors, which I liked a lot better than how I did the basement ones, they brought a ton of (expensive) LVL and started cutting and manufacturing slip in window and door buck structures, and measuring and cutting windows in the wall. They like to do it at 2 or 3 courses of blocks (we were at 3). They got most of the main floor bucks built or at least cut and two of them installed by Saturday afternoon. My BIL and my son and I finished off the 3rd level of foam on a good length of the garage/house wall and started building up the rest of the garage/house wall now that the garage slab is in -- we have to rebuild the level of foam where the garage is and then build up on that. We got one layer done and the short build-up opeice glued in and also got the side of the garage build-up short piece cut and the next layer on but not yet installed.
