House update. Last Wednesday I contacted the distributor for Nudura, from whom I have been getting my ICF block. I wanted to get a referral for getting help with the pour of the next (main floor) level when we are ready. I did not like the guys work, who did the basement -- did not follow ICF pour instructions, poured too fast, gotbulges and waviness etc. (All under grade and so not such a big deal there but I don't want that in the above grade).

He gave me a guy's name and number, which seemed familiar, though I couldn't place it. I called him and made introduction and he seemed amenable to helping with the pour, and also said he could help with other stuff -- framing, doors, whatever. He is a long time contractor and house builder. I mentioned help with getting the rest of the main floor ICF done and he said he could do that. He would be willing to work al a carte on services. He agreed to come out and take a look at what we are doing.

Thursday my BIL came down for our 3 day sprint and this guy came by and I showed him what we had done what we were doing, etc. I had already sent him the plan. Later that afternoon he texted me his hourly price and I agreed for 2 people, 2 weeks at 40 hours a week at his rate ( for now). Pour to be separate.

In texting I noticed I had texted with the guy 2 years ago and he mentioned, after meeting, that he recognized me and my son from the Nudura installer training we did in Feb 2020. He has been working with ICF for 30 years but it seems Nudura was a newer ICF product so he was in the training class to learn the differences and best practices for that brand.

Anyway, he and his son showed up Friday and based on his suggestions on how he normally did windows and doors, which I liked a lot better than how I did the basement ones, they brought a ton of (expensive) LVL and started cutting and manufacturing slip in window and door buck structures, and measuring and cutting windows in the wall. They like to do it at 2 or 3 courses of blocks (we were at 3). They got most of the main floor bucks built or at least cut and two of them installed by Saturday afternoon. My BIL and my son and I finished off the 3rd level of foam on a good length of the garage/house wall and started building up the rest of the garage/house wall now that the garage slab is in -- we have to rebuild the level of foam where the garage is and then build up on that. We got one layer done and the short build-up opeice glued in and also got the side of the garage build-up short piece cut and the next layer on but not yet installed.

Good afternoon. As usual, not much going on here today. made a quick trip to the grocery store as the store in Troy didn't have the large Snapple ice tea I like. Out of stock. Can't believe that I got out of there for under 10 bucks. It has been a while.

Still waiting for the daughter to get her SIM card so I can say adios to AT&T.

Willie - Enjoyed your photos as usual. On the '59 Chevy Impala, you'll have to fight my son for that.

Christian - Many moons ago when I got out of the Navy and was living in Florida, I was in train withdrawal and built an N scale layout that was roughly three and a half feet wide and five feet long so it could be slid under our bed. After we moved to Montana that small layout was built into a large layout that had 11 scale miles of mainline track. Unfortunately the quality and running capabilities were pretty lousy. Nothing like what's available today. The N scale was torn out and my HO scale Logan Valley was built.

Joe - The cafris a '51 Hudson Hornet. Did quite a lot of work restoring it but it runs like new now. The only gripe I have is that there is no power steering. In recent months, the banks have really tightened up on mortgage lending. My son was ready to buy here and had been pre approved, but with the increase in home values, his pre-approval went bye bye. because he didn't use it in a prescribed time period. Now, with the increased mortgage rates he is priced out of the market. He said he could probably get a mortgage but doesn't want top be house poor getting into a high mortgage rate. Being in out place for over 45 years on 2 acres with no covenants, my place sold for an amount we couldn't believe. We got out at probably the best possible time. Paid the place I'm living in cash.

- You've done some excellent work on your layout. Always enjoyed your photos. The selection of vehicles in N scale has a lot to be desired. I started collecting my HO vehicles over 30 years ago.

Chad - I see that there has been recent progress on the basement/train room.

Awesome, I can't wait to be able to do this kind of thing. Just started clearing space in the basement!

Hello Happy Members !
This is my favorite kind of H0 layout.
Big warning to all rivet counters: look away if you don't want to have a heart attack ! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Anyway have fun !

My exclusively Tyco layout thus far..

Christian at the end of the day, your layout is your dream.
There are plenty of people who buy vintage kit, and vintage scenery because that is what they like, and reminds them of their childhood.
There are plenty of people who like computer versions and do not want the headache of the real thing,or just do not have the money or the room.
Your layout will be yours, and should suit you,and you should not feel pressurised by us to go as realistic as possible, it is not the only choice.
If you end up pressurised to do something that suits other people you will not be happy with it, if the video you just showed is your ideal, then aim for that.
Just because there is a porche which is desirable does not mean that you should not love a little vw bug, I could buy better cars for the same price but I love my bugs, follow your heart
which ever end of the spectrum you go,they are all worthy.
my brother puts out a raggedy old train set on his carpet, and he loves it, it has sentimental value, the tunnel seats on the carpet or rug depending on which room, and he places cat or dog food for his pets to play with, he interacts with his layout he loves it and he cherishes it for what it is.
Just enjoy your journey.
I personally have my bugs, my Dalek my what ever I want,my layout my choice, end of.

children’s delight, I saw loads of kids dragged around the realistic ones bored witless, then they saw this and were entranced
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

FYI this is my version of Scaletrix and I have seen people make this look like we strive to make a railway layout, for me in this instance I just love playing with the cars
could I do a layout version,yes , do I want to, no.
We race the cheap ones at break neck speed, and sone of the expensive ones never end up on the track, see how far we can fling one of those minis as it races round at breakneck speed, 🥃 🍺 🍷 alcohol is often consumed when playing this and much piss taking, but we have great fun. Just enjoy, at the level that you are happy with and if you want an all singing all dancing 💃 🕺 dancing scenery then we’ll help you down that road, but there are. Any roads to happiness

I could tell they were old photos. The VCR and 150 pound television gave them away...

But I am happy with where I am at, even if it is far from everything.
I have always contended that I could have done better with the $$$ that I put into Social Security over the years.
1. That's because you live in Texas, and like it. You don't have to contend with some of the BS others are stuck with, such as H.O.A.s, local political hacks, dense traffic, high taxes etc.
2. I always felt the same way, myself, but since Payroll taxes were mandatory, I could never confirm my theory. Now that I'm collecting, it's a tad late to change in my opinion.

LOGAN VALLEY RR LIVES ON
Good Evening Folks. Eventually I will post some of this stuff in the RPO thread, but for now here it is. Today I received two boxes from Chet's Logan Valley RR, that no longer exists:(. Here are a few pictures of structures that I have anticipated and have saved places for on the layout.

There are some minor repairs that will need to be done; I broke the awning off the structure in picture #4. Overall they traveled 1800 miles in excellent shape.
More to come later.

I'm building the 1943 version as a cabin car. The NX23 was used to make up the shortage of cabin cars during the war years. There is an article in the Keystone four years ago that's invaluable for the historical photos. The cabin cars (before use as MOW) were painted in freight car red.
Curt: Thanks. Somehow, I missed that important detail. Looked like a camp car from the build photos. Once finished, it will be a outstanding model.

48° and clear. Went to 58 this afternoon. We finally took a walk on the Boardwalk, (SeaGirt NJ), and it looked and smelled like the ocean. Walked a little over a half mile back and forth. The Boardwalk, (OK, Trex walk), was crowded. Everyone had the same Idea, apparently. Because it is the off season, the dogs took great delight running up and down the beach, chasing the gulls. I was surprised there were no surfers. The waves were breaking just right. To the Southeast, it appeared that several creatures were having a fine time in a Mullet school. Whales, I guess, this time of year.

View Northeast.
In the local pecking order, Sea Girt is the "High Parish", Adjacent Spring Lake is the Cathederal Church, and further North, Belmar, is the dwelling place of "Lost Souls." The Manasquan Inlet, to the South, was quiet, the fishing fleet either still out, or recovering from the previous day's festivities.
