Willie -- Condolences for the loss in your family of your Aunt. Sounds like she had a good life and was in command of when she left it.

It is supposed to start raining and change to snow today. 6-12 inches tonight and another 2-4 inches tomorrow. As of now Thursday has no snow but Friday may have a little bit more. This totally sucks with our house construction. I need to go up later this morning before it starts to batten down the hatches. Our 2 ICF hired help guys thought they would come today and do a half day before it starts but the forecast advanced the start time and they are not coming (they are an hour away) so my son and I will go up and do it. Close off the basement stairs and put a tarp over some TJI joists and do a small cleanup so the snow doesn't cover scattered materials and make it hard to shovel.

We did get a lot done last week through Saturday and more done yesterday, Pics below are as of Sunday (reflecting Saturday's work which ended when it was dark). Yesterday we got some of the entry way in front put on and garage a few levels higher. Otehrwise it was the extra insulation foam being added to blocks (we are adding 2" above grade into the blocks) and the window rough-ins being braced to the wall etc.

On the south wall (last pic I believe) we just need to add one layer of shortened bricks and we;; be at top of wall. Roof will start there on that side. The shortened bricks need to be cut down (they will use their table saw) and the steel added...

Willie, somehow I managed to miss your news.
You have my sympathies.
Sorry I missed it too,
Willie my sympathies, I know that it is not just losing parents and kids that bring heartache.

my cousin died a couple of weeks ago, only 3 years older, he had a cold, became influenza went into hospital and went into a coma they found a brain bleed, after a month his sister who had been visting 2-3 times a week talking to him in the hope he came out of it,was asked to turn him off. He still worked, a total shock he is younger than my brother. Not a nicer person could you meet.

Texas said, download "Phone Link" app to your PC, found in MS Store. Texas I downloaded this yesterday and it worked 1st time out. The below photos were transferred using it. Thanks
I just have to install 2 cabinets then have the glass door guy come over and the project will be finished. Although I added blocking for the shower safety bars I forgot to add some for the towel and toilet paper assessors. Now I have drill 3/8 inch holes through the tile and use anchors.
Swal

Dogs bollocks….smirks

Afternoon All,

I skipped the morning walk and stayed in bed late. That was most likely because of the very early start yesterday. In the train room I started out trying to figure out how to put together the etched brass ladders together without success. I found the directions not very helpful and the few provided pictures were pretty much useless because they were overly dark probably from being copied too many times. Anyway, I went with the resin ladders which required 3 hours of cleaning up the resin flash. I only ruined one ladder brace and luckily there were a couple of spares. :)

Tomorrow, I plan on gluing the legs/braces to the ladders. There is a simple jig provided in the kit. Wish me luck.

Willie-Nice looking cafe. It looks like a mass casualty occurred. :D

Christian- When I was building my first layout (smaller than now) I showed MOH where in the room it would be and showed her the completed wood modules (4) in the garage (no negative comments). Once I had the 4 modules inside the house, she says "I didn't know it would be so big."

Patrick- Looks like a lot of progress.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Is the Flow Easy drain cleaner safe to use on septic tanks and the helpful bacteria that they use to keep things flowing?
What’s your thoughts on bicarbonate soda and vinegar I use white, not certain about lint but it foams up and cleans off grease easy peasy, beware putting in too much! Cheap, easy to get. Unblocks nicely. We have a digester and as far as I know I have not killed it off, but I only do it as a last resort.

Good day everyone,

Haven't visited the Coffee shop in a couple of years (or the forum for that matter). Had a bout of lack of interest in the hobby for a while. Looks like all the familiar faces are here with some new ones.

As I said I lost interest for a while to pursue some other thing. Coming back to read the ongoing weathering thread and purchasing the tools to hand lay my own turnouts have given me a new look. excited to get back to it and add to the conversation.

Good to see you all again!
Mike. its great to have you back!

I just received sad family news. My Aunt who is also my Godmother, the last surviving member of my parent's generation, passed away last night. She was in her late 80's and had been in the hospital for the last week. She was diagnosed with a perforated colon, the second time she had this condition over the years. She had refused all medical treatment other than sleeping aids. Pending Celebration of Life service this weekend in Memphis TN.
God Mothers are special, I miss mine so very much.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Good Afternoon. 42° and cloudy with a thunderstorm, but little rain. (0.02"). Overnight, we had 0.11" of rain. today's high was 50°.

Shrove Tuesday 2023. Baked chicken dinner, with traditional Paczki (filled donuts).

Did not walk today, except for treks through two supermarkets...in order to buy everything on our 20 item shopping list...First nap on the recliner since my surgery...I was up an hour early...I started a Walthers modular building today... need to be careful and read the instructions carefully.

And you still increased the size…..

Well, howdy there internet peeps.

It's Troy again

Had an interesting text get to the wife yesterday.

But first, we took Sis-in-Law out for her birthday dinner a week ago (day after valentines). While we were out, you might remember me mentioning that SIL and Wife were starting to plan our daughter's wedding, using the clubhouse here in our condo complex. Daughter has really big dreams of a mega wedding... But her budget is all tied up in what we gave her to purchase her condo in Indy.

I texted the daughter to let her know that the ladies were already planning her wedding without her. Despite she and BF not being engaged.

Well, wife got a text that daughter and BF went ring shopping. No purchases. Just shopping.

Wondering how much this is going to cost us. Daughter is probably thinking we'll pay for everything if it's up here. They live just over 2 hours from us. BF's family isn't larger than ours. But he wants an open bar. I told him that runs about $200 per guest, whether they drink or not. So, he'd better come up with a way to cover it, since it's his college friends that would be hitting it.

So... we're now on Engagement watch. And wife is trying to figure out how to find some money that won't set her investment plans back a few years. We'll see.

I used to be a wedding photographer, but that was down in Indy. And most of the wedding pros I could have pulled a discount out of have moved on into other professions or retired (like I did).
