Hello all! Going in to work for my first overnight shift in about an hour and a half. Gonna be rough one because I really didn't get as much sleep as I'd hoped to. Should sleep well tomorrow when I get home though. Supposed to pour down rain tonight and tomorrow. Freezing rain, sleet and snow on tap later this week. Can't wait till I start the new job and have so much less distance to travel for work each day.

Trying to figure out what to do about insurance. My current health insurance through the company will end immediately once I complete my last day. That will leave us 11 days without health insurance and I'm not sure what to do about that. Kinda scares me these days to go without even that long.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Can you sign up for Cobra for just a month? Cobra is expensive but it gives piece of mind for the almost two weeks.

Well, trip home was less frightening for the oncoming traffic as the wind had lessened quite a bit, so managed to keep it in more or less a straight line,(or at least between the white lines) all good, till I got to town, localised flooding brought havoc, (us Brits really don't do flooding) what should have been a 25 min drive thro' town to my yard turned into 2 hrs with me doing a 35 mile detour to get the coach back, normally back by 6pm, gone 8 pm, and I still had to get home, normally 20 min drive back to town, 15 mile detour and and another hour, home at last. Best bit, I get to do it all again tomorrow (hopefully without the detours). Oh! total number of students, to college and back, 1 !!🤣

G'nite folks :)

I'm not really sure how to go about it. From what I've read so far, the company will send me info on Cobra within a couple weeks after I've already left. I don't understand that at all. Seems like it should be possible to set it up before I leave, but not according to what I've read so far.

Have you verified it ends immediately and not at the end of the month? If they really do it that way, dump thje problem on HR. Tell them you need Cobra immediately to tied you over. Most companies hold the insurance open to the end of the month, in my experience at least, so that they have time to get you Cobra information etc and for them to satisfy their legal responsibilities. (If they self insure it may be different but I would think they've already paid the insurance plan for the month for you anyway)

Yes, I verified that it actually ends as soon as you leave. I agree, probably need to talk to HR.

Good evening. I survived my first day at the new job.
I've learned firsthand modern farm tractors have more in common with the starship Enterprise than a tractor. I'll snap a photo of the command center of the larger one tomorrow.
Most of my neighbors won't touch a farm tractor that's less than 20 years old because they can't work on them. One though has a whole fleet of stuff less than three years old including two combines($$$), one of those fertilizer rigs and at least six standard tractors with every accessory that John Deere makes. He has to have a service contract with them or he voids all warranties. However you're absolutely correct with the Starship Enterprise analogy. Everything is GPS guided and tracked. The "cloud" remembers the exact path that he travels when planting, and later steers every piece of equipment exactly down the rows without crushing a single plant...all can be done without any driver guidance! Last summer I watched as he grew a field of sorghum (milo to some), and the tractor and attachment cultivated perfectly straight rows without disturbing surrounding roots. Other than the fertilizer rig, everything he does has a pair of identical pieces of equipment working in tandem...all programed to work together with the GPS guidance.
It is rumored that he leases or owns at least 80,000 acres and occasionally uses his equipment and crews for others.

Greetings Model RR Fans!
I've been here "lurking" on several occasions. Still in sort of a daze on thinking of my present condition. Appoints are being set up - mostly the first part of the month.
The Spousal Unit and I both seem to be in some twilight sort of denial over it all.

In spite of taking every sort of sleep aid that you can imagine - I still cannot seem to sleep more that 2-3 hours a night. I cannot get my mind to turn off and am plagued by hyperventelation everytime I close my eyes! Last nights sleep was from 9:15 pm until 12;17 am - no nap nor even the least sleeply at this time.

I wish to express my sincere thanks for all the comments and well wishes towards me from everyone - I really appreciate them. I will try and get back on better updates going forwardd. Hopefully there will be better things to report in the future.

Check with the HR department. Most employer plans cover 1 month after the last day...but not all. If they don't they should sign you up for COBRA immediately so your coverage doesn't lapse. The other alternative is the Marketplace...since you are having a life changing event, you don't need to wait for an enrollment period. Might be cheaper than COBRA...or not, but you have to check it out to determine the best course of action.

Sherrel: I'm not a Doctor, and I didn't spend last night at the Holiday Inn Express. I am Praying for you and your recovery.

One thing you might try, is to settle back in a recliner or upright chair, with the TV on...try to get your mind off of things that are tormenting you. Just avoid the damn news. Something mundane like a rerun of the LA Kings - Arizona game from the other night.....or HGTV...

Morning Sherrel, although daunting, and worrying for you and your family, my daughter does suffer from a simular problem, it has taken some time to remedy as, unlike yourself, she refused to seek medical advice. I'm glad to say, that although its still ongoing, she now usually has a 8-9 hour sleep pattern. The biggest hurdle was defining what was the cause, (in her case it was a particular set of things worrying her) and then learning how deal with it and to get her mind to "switch off", not easy, but doable, I'm sure, in time, you will be back to a more normal sleep pattern, and back to your old self.

Ken, my wife and I went through this when she resigned September 30, 2020. The Cobra package came shortly after with 30 days to pay and was retroactive to October 1st.

If I were you I would see when the new insurance begins. If it begins before the Cobra premium is due, only pay if you need the insurance.

Congratulations on your new job!
