Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 58°, after raining most of the night. Best as I can tell in the dark, there's a bit over 2" in the rain gauge. Temperatures are beginning to drop, and we are to expect freezing rain and ice by tomorrow morning and on into Thursday. Our temperature will drop below freezing around midnight and not get back above until noon Friday. Unusual for us this late in February. We hit our high today of 62° at midnight, and the wind just turned from the north about 0630. Thanks a lot, Patrick!

The excitement here yesterday reminded me that we had an informal pool among the neighbors regarding how long our ex-con neighbor would stay out of trouble. He made one year and nine months. Sooner than the 2 1/2 years that I guessed. The policeman's wife came closest at 1 1/2 years. No one seems upset.

Slow day out in the train shed yesterday. I did finish the sidewalk for Harriso Hardware.

Then added some folks.

After that I did some non-photogenic ground cover in a couple of recent places where it was a bit thin.

Greg -
Cathy avoids going into the train room if she can at all possible.
The bridge incident has really stuck with her.
Guy -
Glad to hear there was no further need to fire off shots, and that nobody was hurt.
There's no real problems when the Federal Marshals get involved. They seriously mean business. The original two-day standoff with the local sheriffs ended as soon as the Feds showed up. He knew it and that's why yesterday's proceeding went off without incident. He has been known to slam the door on the local guys before. After the original incident, Marshals along with the ATF spent five hours combing his house and property for any firearms and confiscated all of them.
OB Ken - I would definitely be talking to HR about the Cobra policy. I think that someone gave you bad information. As others have said, you should be covered until months end at the minimum, longer if you pay the premiums.
Sherrel - Good to see you post.

National Margarita Day today. Enjoy if you imbibe.
Have a great day and stay safe. Temperature here has dropped to 32° in just over two hours.

Good Morning gang!

50° and overcast,, rain coming later. Been dealing with an inner ear inflammation and a dull headache since Saturday. Scheduled an appointment online for last night at 6:15 with the local clinic. Got there 1 minute early and the place was dark. Evidently they contracted their appointment system to the same company that did G.M.s appointment App. They called me this morning and set a "real" appointment.

Willie, love the dog outside of Harrisons

PWM, Welcome to the coffee shop. Please don't forget to tip your waitress, and after you do, stand her back up!

Welcome to the diner. Here we come close at times to politics and relipeon but Terry and others will keep us in line.

TomO
Relipeon? Is that a contraction of Relying on peons?? ;) 😁

Sherril, Keeping you on the prayer list, hopefully they can get a handle on this soon!

Oh crap, they want me to do some work today!

BBL

p.s. I still hate my I-Phone

OK gang...

I'm in that phase where I need to create some characters for the next book. And I need names. Who wants to volunteer to be a character.

I write in a magical universe with pixies, trolls, gnomes (make sure you pronounce the G, it wouldn't be there if it weren't important) ect.

This one is set in my SoCal coastal town and centers around a beach BBQ contest (think real pitmasters).

Warning... if you volunteer, your first name and basics of how I interpret your character might be reflected in the book. Your character namesake might also be the perp or the victim. They might have a pretty shady past.

Either quote the post (hit reply) or message me.

If I use your name intentionally, I'll send you a free E-book copy to read on your tablet/phone/device.

I'll give it a go, after all, the worst you could do is kill me off. (page 1 probably) 🤣 🤣

Thanks. I'm on the Massachusetts south shore
Isn't that Connecticut? Welcome to the diner
Wow, no witness! That up is a surprise to me. Witnesses are easy though, grab a neighbor.
She didn't like it, and my wife was very upset.

Sherrel - My prayers are with you. This might help, sit back and adjust the recliner. Let the wife start a conversation, works for me every time.

No trains yesterday, started yard work, mostly edging fences. Today's agenda is grocery run.

STAY SAFE

We self insured for 10 of the 31 years we were in business. The 1st few years with under 25 employees was pretty simple. Once we went over the 25th employee the costs and the bond we had to post went up significantly. Finally the time Terry had to spend on the care of the self insured program wasn‘t worth it. The savings was not enough. We stopped it and moved to a regular funded healthcare program for all employees, more expensive for us but easier.

TomO
Time is money, sounds like you made the smart choice.

Afternoon All,

Had some wins today for a change. I did some more reading about QSI last night and figured out that to get the decoder to accept a 4 digit address you have to enter a second CV (beyond AD4) to get the decoder to accept it (don't ask me why). So, the address works now. After that I ran a GP7 coal drag for about an hour. I also mounted a dwarf signal in the ESF.

Yesterday afternoon the satellite went out and the soonest we could get a technician is tomorrow. We were fiddling with before lunch and I discovered a cable hanging loose, hooked it back up and now we have the idiot box working again.

Willie- Exciting times. I probably wouldn't be able to figure out how to operate that tractor. Nice job on the sidewalk. What color did you use?

Smudge- Hope you had a good holiday.

Sherrel- Glad to see you posting. Would an angled foam pad in bed that elevates your chest and head help with your breathing?

PMW- Welcome. I'm from Central Florida. Your layout looks good so far.

Terry- Way, way too much technology for me.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Greetings all,

Physical fitness - - - no surer way to hork up your body! Was at the work-em-out place (Orange Theory) and in first set of floor exercises blew my left knee. Of course, did I stop? Nooo. Had to press on. That was at 10-1100 yesterday morning. Could hardly walk by evening. Dau and SIL came over for drinks and dinner - - man that pain killer tasted good. Better today but keeping it in an Ace bandage and applying heat periodically. Still, got some train work done.

So here is my pretty-durn-close-to-final track plan:
220208_final_maybe.jpg

So I did the layout for the double-slip TO (SE just off the curved TO) and the double curved TOs of the inside southern loop. Made good use of the laser level to draw the CL of the eastern outer straight and the western inner straight. Laid out that 18R inside southern curve. Cut foam roadbed for all those TOs and got it glued down. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, in the right place and with good alignment.

That inside curve does come too close to the outer in the SE corner, 1-1/2 inches center-to-center, but not much I can do about it except warn operators not to pass down there. Are there any prototype curves that have interference fits? I wonder if so, what they use for caution signs or signals.

Progress is nice!

I do like working with the foam roadbed. Very easy to bend and cut to shape.

I need to go to LHS tomorrow. ME code 83 joiners are nice and small, but they do not fit onto those Walthers curved TOs. So off to get some Walthers joiners. I have some Atlas C83, but man, are they gargantuan compared to the ME ones!

Snow here in the Twin Cities. ABout 5 or 6 inches outside. Can't run the blower, can't man a shovel with this bum knee. Hopefully my nice neighbor with the big 2-stage will take pity on me and do it. He sometimes does.

Cheers all!

Steve J

Ken, my wife and I went through this when she resigned September 30, 2020. The Cobra package came shortly after with 30 days to pay and was retroactive to October 1st.

If I were you I would see when the new insurance begins. If it begins before the Cobra premium is due, only pay if you need the insurance.

Congratulations on your new job!
I double checked on things today. The current insurance definitely ends on my final day of employment. It will be 11 days after that when I can start on the insurance at my new employer. I'm working on a couple things to see what will work best for us. Hoping it will work out ok.

Exactly right!

Some mid-sized and smaller companies self-insure as well. If they have deep enough pockets or they are willing to take the risk.
In our case we're not self insured. My current employer uses Blue Cross of Alabama while my new employer uses Blue Cross of Illinois, both of which are Anthem Insurance. Hoping that will make the transition a little easier too.
