Got a Scaletrains finger rack flatcar for a good deal from a club member that ordered the wrong car and didn't want to sent it back. Seen this video and I'm going to try it out. I'm going to try and paint one green to see how it comes out. Some rebar has a green coating.
Good video. I have found I enjoy creating loads for open gondolas, bulkhead flats and of course pulp cars. It could be a hobby within a hobby

Good morning all! 22 and sunny on the way to 28 and sunny today. Still feeling pretty excited about getting the new job. I woke up this morning and briefly wondered if I had dreamed the whole thing LOL Fortunately it's not just a dream. Just can't get over how happy I am about this. A friend of mine works there and he and I are both happy for the chance to work together. He's the marketing director for the college and we've been friends for at least 20 years. Can't wait to get the next 4 weeks over with so I can start my new adventure.

I had originally planned to run my own IT and digital forensics business when I retired from the police department. I was a certified forensic analyst and had done cases through my side business as well as criminal cases for the police department. When retirement time came I decided I there just wasn't enough money to be made in my small area of the world to run such a business so I gave up on the idea. Pretty glad I gave up on it honestly. I liked doing the work but I hated running a business. I'd much rather just work for someone else.

That's about all I've got here. Hope you all have a great day!!!
As a fan of bones and other forensic programmes, I bet you either don’t watch them or cringe when they make rookie mistakes, but your job sounds totally fascinating,I assume much of their ‘cutting edge’ work is questionable, but enjoyable to watch.

Afternoon All,

Had a nice family get together for daughter's birthday today. Now that it's over I'm watching "In Harm's Way" a great WWII naval war movie.

Ken (IL)- Congratulations on the new job.

Joe- Neat historical photos.

TomO- Great news. Excellent scenes.

IB Ken- Neat looking device.

Jaz- Nice scenes.

Guy- The thing I find most interesting is the mother and daughter sitting on the edge of the platform looking down the tracks probably waiting on the train.

Tom- Interesting video.

Willie- Nice looking buildings. Interestingly there is a Harrison's close by me that sells uniform items and equipment for Police, Fire, and EMS.

I hope everyone has a good night.

The wind hasn't calmed down as it was supposed to. First pic at 9am second at 4pm.

Good evening. It's clear and 44.
Waiting for the text from Wally World letting me know my grocery order is ready. It was supposed to be ready between 5-6, it's now past that time, so they should notify me momentarily.
In the meantime. I made three trips to my new job, hauling all my equipment there, and getting it ready for Monday's festivities. Afterward, I realized the new job is 20 miles closer to my LHS than my house is, and picked up a pair of BLI ES44ACs, painted in NS Heritage. Interstate and N&W. They are long out of production, and I was able to score them for a little bit under half of retail.

JAMES, I looked while I was there, and the only other UP Heritage engine is the new "Powered by our People" one.
Tomorrow is a day I'm dreading. I have to go to the landlord's house and pay the rent. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue, and ordinarily I enjoy spending a few minutes chatting with he and his wife. However, the conversation about the company he used to own will probably not be a happy topic.

Hi All! Not going to do another vehicle weekend, but I did go to the Mad City train show today. Bitter cold outside, and some snow the night before which kept the attendance down some. I hope tomorrow is better for them. My first show in a couple of years, actually since before Covid. I took a fair amount of money prepared to go crazy, but, alas, it didn't happen. I got off surprisingly easy. A couple of 57 Chevy Nomads from Oxford, ten bucks each. A couple of old Mini Metals White COE trucks. The green cab is going to get repainted in Daylight colors and get lettered for Pacific Motor Transport. Mail Bag catchers for a couple of my RPO cars, and a pleasant surprise, a locomotive test stand. Been looking for one of those for a while! Total damage: about $100.00. Cheapest I've gotten out of a train show in a long time! A good time was had by all.

Alan, what time were you there? I thought the show was pretty busy from 9:30 to 11:45 when I left. I put my haul in the RPO forum.

2 locomotives did follow me home from the train show

The BNSF Genset runs great. The Athearn Gensis MP15AC sucks out of the box but an easy fix. Both brand new. Both need sound and ditch lights. The Genset will get stripped and the MP15ac will get patched and the CP removed

We probably passed each other. I was there between 10 and 12. I based my impression on cars in the parking lot. That show has gotten smaller over the years. I remember when it took most of the ground floor and the mezzanin
We probably did pass. I remember it with many more vendors. For me it was a last minute decision to go but I was prepared for the things I purchased. I thought the layouts were very worn out looking but I was there to shop, something I don’t normally go to shows for.

I acquired my hearing loss on active duty in the Corps over a 23 year period. Duties with an artillery battery, mortar operator, small arms fire and all sorts of radio comm. I.E. voice, Morse Code, teletype took its toll.
Significant loss of hearing in the higher ranges where most of women's voices are compiled. Lower frequencies of men's voices clip parts of words making some conversations difficult.
The VA provided me with Phonak hearing aids. I don't wear them around the house because there's nobody else here. I don't wear them on the motorcycle because the noise may damage them. I'll forget to plug em in a lot of times when going to church or other meetings. Don't think of it till I see a woman moving her mouth but I don't hear her. I just smile, nod and shake her hand as though I heard her.
When my daughter stops by on occasion, she turns the radio down and rolls her eyes. Oh, sorry, didn't hear ya come in. The grand kids have already flooded by me which I don't notice. Was out at the church loading logs into my truck to haul to the land fill. Church custodian snuck up on me in his service cart, smirking. No hearing aids today, huh?
Sometimes the silence is welcome. Other times I have trouble making out what women are sayin on TV despite volume being close to 100.
Tinnitus is so loud at times, I'm surprised that others near me can't hear it.
What worries me that in an emergency you might miss some thing vital, but other than the. Obvious you seem to have it all in hand, I wear ear protection any time I do anything that could give me tinnitus, my son had a tumour (luckily not the type that spreads) in his ear two operations later they were offering a third he gave it a miss. I had over ear defenders but now have earplugs with 3 levels, no where near as expensive as you guys about 500 uk pounds but they protect me and looking after what I have. My son not yet 30 has terrible trouble but had learnt to lip read, and yes the tv is extra loud luckily we have 2 lounges sone distance apart! Joys of a long thin bungalow.

Morning fellers. I hope everyone is doing well. Went to my LHS yesterday. Figured I may as well start working on some side projects. I needed to work on my Athearn/Roundhouse hoppers. They have saggy couplers. Even with the covers in place. I've attempted to modify the covers for a better fit without much success. I managed to fix the issue with some shims. Now I need to work on raising the rest of my fleet to match. I have some low hoppers that hook low that I want to bring up. I don't really care one way or another about coupler height as long as the fleet matches each other. Thought about buying some track for my next build. LHS was pretty much sold out on everything I was looking for. So that idea was a complete wash. I'd rather buy track locally as it's cheaper than buying online. I'll have to keep an eye out for a restock. That's pretty much all I have for now. I'll stop by later when I get a chance.

Good Morning All,

I'm wondering if I could get some information from one of our DCC guru's here. Is there a CV that kills the sound on a locomotive until it's address is called up? I've tried F8 and it turns off the sound but as soon as I turn on the layout everything starts up again. I have mainly Tsunami sound decoders and 2 with WOW sound.

Thanks for any help.

: Enjoyed the rebar video! I noticed that the TTX car he was demonstrating with had the earlier tuscan paint scheme. I thought they were all yellow starting in the early 1970's? If so, that car may be someting I can use on my 1969-72 era layout.

TomO/Alan - nice hauls from the show! I've noticed the same trend with the Timonium show in my area, it seems to be only a shadow of what it was "back in the day." Could it be because many of the small-time hobbyshop vendors that used to rent tables at shows are now doing most of their business on eBay? These days I only attend if another friend wants me to go along.

After finishing my Saturday chores yesterday, I installed the rest of the neoprene hose over the dowels on my dumper drive mechanism [what a pain!], wired up the motors and connected to the old MRC power pack. Gave it a test run, and was pleased with the results - even though the motors are a tad noisy. I attempted to shoot a video of it but, since I can't attach my cellphone to a tripod and I also control the power pack, it came out a little shaky. I used a solid pre-fab coal load for the test since I didn't want to spill Black Beauty granules all over the workbench [that's the "clunk" that you hear when it's falling out].

Now it's time to get ready for Sunday Mass; then after lunch, one of my local mrr friends is coming over to help me install the contraption. Hopefully there won't be any showstopper surprises...
