It would be our honor to have you over! I'm not a good host, but my wife's Hungarian hospitality more than makes up for me.
I do enjoy enjoy having company, but my idea of hospitality is "help yourself". 😁
Hungarian food, yum yum, have been there a couple of times, have family via marriage, and a recipe book, very worn written by one, goulash is not goulash without caraway, and sweet pepper paprika Hungarian, Spanish is only second best.
Cant take to the pike though it looks back at you however it is presented, stuffed cabbage, and like the French they love their cakes,I make paprikash - mostly just chicken white meat instead of red meat. Pictures always welcome. araway bread rolls are nice I can find caraway bread at the Polish shops.

Finally got the F-45's back up and running, as well as the GP-18, (the one with the split gears), which ended up taking most of yesterday part of today to get done. First I couldn't get the new axles on, ended up using my vice and a pair of long nosed pliers, I cringed every time, waiting for the new axles to split, fortunately I got away with it, phew!!!!
Fitted a Digitrax DH 165AO decoder, reverse light was on full time and headlight wouldn't work at all, thought I'd wired it in wrong, I hadn't, faulty decoder, swopped that out for another one, everything works, except now the body wont fit back on properly, decoder wont go past the air intakes, swapped that out for a plugin, hard wired, everything works, but not quite, body still sitting slightly above the chassis, so going to have to move it (again). But really had enough for the weekend now, so that's going to be left till next weekend, do that, re-fit the Kadee's, and hopefully, that's one more done, only 8 more to go. :)

Also picked up a couple of Athearn? Hopper wagons, TLOC, would really like a couple of your pulp cars, but dunno if they'd survive the crossing.

Part one of my nap is complete. One more should enable me to stay awake for the entire game. I'm not looking forward to this years half-time show, seldom ever do.

I'd like to see the Rams win. Their quarterback has a worked long and hard in the league. I think he proves what I have always thought. The quarterback is only one piece of the puzzle. You have to be good in all three phases of the game to make it to the Super Bowl.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, my Ravens will be watching the game same as me. After they lost their two best defensive backs I felt they had no chance to win the Super Bowl. Despite leading the league in injuries coach Harbaugh did a fantastic job, but "smoke and mirrors" won't cut it.

I'm hoping for one last great NFL game to watch. This years playoffs were the most exciting I can remember.

Speaking of not having a dog in the hunt. When my Baltimore Colts failed to make the playoffs in 1972 I followed the Redskins. Coach George Allen's "Over-the-Hill Gang shocked the NFL with an NFC best 11-3 record that season. Those old guys could not overcome Miami's younger and much more talented team in Super Bowl VII. I have been following the Redskins ever since. I'll be cheering for the Commanders, but not when they play my Ravens!

I'm ready for some football!

you have me, I have lorries, but it seems I fail to photograph them boxed, unboxed or otherwise,I will need to find a lorry park and a cafe this is all. I can offer

You need to look at a few cars, there are a number of nice American cars to be bought here in the UK, and you need a US building, evil bay may have something, I used to know a dealer but he retired, which is a shame cos he scooped up second hand kit, my boat on the cove was one of his scoop ups,

Jaz, the only spices I know of that she uses is real Hungarian paprika. Not the stuff the government exports. We still have a stash of paprika that her late Mom bought directly from a farmer. Momma was right, there is a difference. The other spice I know of is bay leaves. For some reason it disagrees with me. I don't eat anything with bay leaves in it. I love sauerkraut, pork and cabbage, but I don't like my wife's stuffed cabbage. We finally figured out why, it must be the bay leaves! Otherwise I pay no attention, I just happily eat.
Frasirt is my favorite (Hungarian meatballs) with tomato salad.
Parikash krumpli with kolbasz is another one of my favorites. Instead of pasta it is made with potatoes (krumpli) and sausage (kolbasz). I could go on and on.
My wife is a master in the kitchen. Hungarian foods to complete American Thanksgiving meals, including deserts. She can do it all! I love telling people, "my Hungarian wife makes the very best Maryland crab cakes" Her talents have no limits.
I will try to remember to take some photos for you. I have no excuse, this tablet I'm using takes great photos. My problem is I forget things!

OK guys, trucks (or lorries) you want, you got it. Took me some time to separate everything out. I found out some interesting things in the process of accumulating this stuff. First up are the Metal Mini Metals. Aside from the weight, look on the bottom. Metal models are riveted together. Plastic ones are screwed together, nice for us if we want to bash or repaint them!

These were the first of the Mini Metals. I did like the White COE but it has one issue: Those chrome wheels. They look toy like to me. Modern cabs can get away with that, but not trucks this old. I need to find a way to get rid of the plating.

Small trucks are important for any kind of small town or urban scene:

As you can see in a couple of cases, I've been playing with weathering the trucks. This started at the Great Midwestern Train Show in Wheaton, IL. I was selling Iwata airbrushes and weathering paint at the time. It passed the time, and showed people that weathering wasn't all that hard. I don't go to shows anymore as a seller, but I kept my dealer status. You never know!

Gotta have buses!

I also weathered a couple of these up. You have to be careful not to get them too dirty though.

On to the bigger stuff: While I like trucks like these, which are beautiful models, they are a bit big for most HO layouts, especially in my era:

Continued on my next post: 🙂

For cities and towns I much prefer the shorter trailers, like these:

I weathered these up a little too!

Nostalgia time! Remember these? Used to come 6 to a box! Now two to a card for five times the price! I popped the floors off and removed the inner axle from the bogie so they look a little more plausible. You may have to move the landing gear back if you want to hook them up to a cab.

That's all for trucks today! Hope y'all enjoyed. 🙂

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores. I spent the morning finishing up the concrete pad. After that I dug out the Miniatronics distribution panel and mounted it under the layout. It has a separate power supply. Tomorrow I'll start out mounting the streetlights since they sit behind where the build will sit. If I need them, I have another 12-connection and a 24-connection board.

Hughie-
Nice scene.

IB Ken- Also a nice scene. Outstanding job on the McDonalds. Great set of trucks.

Chad- I might actually tune in on that.

Steve- The only sports I watch is college football. I am done with pro athletes.

Lee- Great stuff. I really like the size of your scale.

Alan- That's a really nice scene, and a great selection of trucks.

Louis- That's a good movie.

Smudge- Your diesels look great.

Terry- Great scene.

It actually has more of an aged concrete background. This is "washed" out a bit.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I installed the #10 cross over turnouts on the layout. The Tortoise Machines are glued in place under the benchwork and being held in place till the glue sets up. The throw wires are still sticking up through the throwbar, centered.
If ya want more pictures of this, just ask and I'll PM em to ya instead of loading em all up here as most may not be interested in this.
The track going off to the left (toward the viewer) is a ready track lead that serves three industries. The track to the right were the E8s with passenger consist is a holding siding going into the main classification yard but is currently the mainline while the track work is being done.

Well howdy there internet MRR people, and those who wonder when the American football season begins?

It's Troy again.

The ongoing situation with the MIL is slowly plodding along in sleepy-baby-steps. MIL won't commit but knows the move needs to occur. Wife and Sis #1 spent yesterday with her, in the ongoing project to declutter, shred old financial documents, and generally help mom go through her stuff and detach the nostalgia from the items.

One question that remains is what to do with Dad's (RIP) Korean war uniform and memorabilia.

I was gaming yesterday, and most of the gents there are veterans. So I asked them.

Turns out we've got a small veterans museum and memorial grounds about 3 miles from my condo. Looks like it might have originally been started by distant relatives of my wife. They've got the same last name as wife's mother's family, after whom one of the major roads in the area was named. The extended family owned a LOT of the farmland on this side of the county. And here are 40 acres with an outdoors memorial part (with one of the traveling Vietnam Memorial Walls given a permanent home last year.)

The current museum is just a ranch home converted to museum space, so tiny. But they have a walled pavilion (with rollup doors on three sides) that they lease for event space.

Turns out that pavilion holds a piece of railroad history. The docent/board member from the museum asked if we wanted to go see "Mercy"

OK... I'll look at about anything in a museum (within reason).

We got out there, and look what they were hiding:

If you're not familiar, here's the introduction from the Merci Train page:

The Merci Train was a train of 49 French railroad box cars filled with tens of thousands of gifts of gratitude from at least that many individual French citizens. They were showing their appreciation for the more than 700 American box cars of relief goods sent to them by (primarily) individual Americans in 1948. The Merci Train arrived in New York harbor on February 3rd, 1949 and each of the 48 American states at that time received one of the gift laden box cars. The 49th box car was shared by Washington D.C. and the Territory of Hawaii. Parades and ceremonies of welcome were conducted in the state capitols and major cities of almost all the states. The largest and most attended was in New York City where more than 200,000 people turned out to welcome that state's assigned boxcar.
There is definitely some modeling potential with these (if they don't already exist).

The docent said the museum hopes to begin this year or next repainting the car to the original livery that graced it when it made its run from France to Indiana in 1949. You can see photos on the Merci Train Historic Photos Page
