Spent an enjoyable evening working on the layout. I've been putting off installing a crossover where one has been needed for some time now. Found the set of #10 left hand turnouts and did the initial fit on the tracks to be sure it would work.
I'll only upload one picture of the work here. If anyone wants to see more just ask and I'll provide more in a pm.

Good evening Crew.

Thanks for the well wishes and concerns for the grandson. The Doctor examined him and had some tests run. He seems fine but the doc is worried as g/s was experiencing some dizziness but nothing since around noon. They are watching him at home. Daughter is a wreck.

Seems there is more to hitting his head on the ice. He got hit with a stick first to the back of his head per one of his coaches. The rink tapes 24/7 and they have pulled the tapes to find out what really happened. There are like 5 stories per the SIL who was there but didn’t see what happened. The coaches did kick another kid off the ice because of this.

He is 8 playing with a team of 10-12 year olds and we do know 2 have tried to bully him as he took some of their friends spots. There was another 8 year who moved up with the g/s.

Terry and I hit a new restaurant for us today before the 6pm hockey game on the UW campus. Felt really strange going into eat at 4pm so we could get to the game. Tomorrow’s game is at 3pm so dinner will be after the game but not near campus at around 6:30pm.

Tom, I'm relieved to hear your grandson is improving.

I suffered countless injuries playing sports. I'd bet maybe as high as 25% of those were caused by unsportsmanlike conduct by other players.

The tendon in my left foot was originally injured running the bases in baseball. I awkwardly hit the bag rounding second base. Should have hit the bag with my right foot! Poor fundamentals on my part.
I never let it heal properly. Moral to the story, take all the time you need to heal.

One of the common misconceptions about vaxes is that the vax imparts immunity 100%. Sadly, not true. It depends on how robust your immune system is vs how invasive/powerful the virus is.

Here's a bit from WebMD

Although the pneumonia vaccine can’t prevent all cases, it can lower your chances of catching the disease. And if you’ve had the shot and you do get pneumonia anyway, you will probably have a much milder case.

Older adults and some people with health problems are more likely to get pneumonia, a lung infection that makes it harder to breathe. It’s more common among people whose immune systems are weak.

And (same source)

How It Works
There are two vaccines for pneumonia that protect against different types of the infection.

PCV13 helps protect people from 13 of the most severe types of bacteria that cause pneumonia.
PPSV23 protects against an additional 23 types of pneumonia bacteria. Neither can prevent every type of pneumonia, but they work against more than 30 common, severe types.
People who need a pneumonia vaccine should get both shots: first, the PCV13 shot and then the PPSV23 shot a year or more later.

For most people, one of each shot should be enough to protect them for their entire lives. Sometimes, you may need a booster shot. Ask your doctor whether you should get one.

Good Morning! Sounds like we will be enjoying tropical type conditions here in the north, but only for the weekend. Then the more usual winter conditions are going to return sometime next week. It's supposed to cool off in a big way. - I say 'Let it come, eh!' I'm a Canuck.

Alan - I really like the Mini-Metals/Oxford car collection. Sure wish I could afford a collection like that, but I find them unreasonably pricey up here in the north. Any that I have were purchased out of Australia where the pricing is more realistic, even with shipping. They seem to be about half price out of Australia, compared to here.

Today, I'll be working for the wife's honey do list, trying to keep her and her green thumb happy. The project is as far away as I can get from layout related. It has everything to do with the plants she's trying to grow, and she's pushing me. I'm certain she dreams about plants in her sleep. - Best to keep her happy; the hobby can come later.

Before I got sick, this is where I left off on the depot project:
3rdClass_01-01-2022.jpg

The project has not moved forward an inch. I'm anxious to get back to it; I need buildings for the layout.

Yesterday was the first negative rapid test I've had in 8 days. Every other test was positive. There was 3 days of feeling sick, and the rest was just trying to ditch the positive tests. During that time, we wore masks in our own home; I was isolated in a basement room with a private bathroom; and meals were delivered outside the bedroom door. We took extreme measures so as not to spread the virus any further. It seems to have worked. Now, I'm a free man!

I sure hope Sherrel and Willie get feeling better. Anyone else who is hurting; all the best in recovery.

Well, I'm getting carried away again. Suppose I'd better get on with the day.
Have a good one!

Good morning from a weather confused Wisconsin. From Spring like 40’s yesterday to this
8165F8A1-B824-4CC3-AEF0-0AA1C0F78BFE.png

I was hoping we had turned the cold weather corner but it is not to be. Things are looking up though all around. The grandson feels good this morning, his mom has relaxed and his dad has seen the tapes the hockey rink takes 24/7. The SIL is one of those type that nothing seems to bother him. He is furious over this but said he will describe the event in a couple days. But, the grandson seems to be acting like a 8 year old again. That’s the main thing.

Louis, like you, a few of my sports injuries were from malicious intent by another against me.

Willie, I am not sure if I am a early poster or late. For a few weeks I was posting around 1am, glad that trend is over!

The UW Women’s hockey plays again at 3 today. The issue is the men’s basketball plays at 1 in the Kohl Center next door to the Women’s Hockey rink and Men’s hockey plays at the Kohl Center after they pull the basketball floor for 6. That means being the middle event on campus that the parking lots will be filled when we get there. This could end up being a very long walk if we can find a spot.

Fuddruckers, I have never been to one. Only have seen one store front. As usual though I have heard mixed reviews. Hughie and Louis I just checked on Maps, we have one in the Madison area about 12 miles and 12 minutes away. I will put that on the let’s check it out list

Tom, great looking pictures

A bit surprised on the NFL Hall of Fame. They left Devin Hester out and there has been none better running the kick offs and punts back. Decent receiver he also was. Sam Mills, Richard Seymour and Leroy Bulter were excellent players none of them IMO showed consistent top player year after year. Yes, a few great seasons each but that should not make you HOF.

Off to the kitchen for breakfast and into the trainroom.

I am going to start with my 1/2 hour under the lights. As I mentioned in other writings I have been diagnosed as being light deficit, Vitamin D deficit and the wall of lights seem to help. Another anxiety disorder I always laughed at prior. Seasonal Affective Disorder is real but if you accept it and deal with it, it’s not bad. That’s one of the reasons my signature line reads, it’s OK not to be OK. This explaination paragraph is for the as…le who private messaged me. Oh yeah, you also are on the ignore list available here

Morning all,

Clear and 18° this morning. Feeling pretty good this morning. Slept 7 hours, then took pills at 3:30 and slept another 2 1/2 hours. Been playing some catch up on some small chores around the house and rest between with an ice bag on the neck\back area. We still have the polar pack from my various knee surgeries over the years, so I have it running with the pad on the recliner so that when I sit back, it's in the correct spot.

No train work for today or probably tomorrow. Wife gets upset when I overdo it because I didn't hurt anymore and actually make things worse. I always have and probably always will. 😁

Fuddruckers is a place that had 3 in Wichita 20 years ago and all are long gone. IIRC it was pretty good as well. Last one I was in was in Springfield, MO 9 years ago.

Willie and Sherrel: Get better soon guys!

Good Morning again. Cloudy and 42° with a stiff 20 mph north wind. It might warm up to 46° today, after an incredible 78° yesterday. Tonight's low around 25° and then warming back up to 64° tomorrow. Crazy! Then we repeat the pattern with 70's until Thursday.

Along with the visit to the doctor yesterday that produced the pneumonia diagnosis, I went to the Covid testing center in the parking lot. Shortly after midnight last night, they E-mailed me a negative result. I am already feeling greatly improved after the antibiotic shot and the first pill. It must not be too bad, as the doctor only prescribed five doses. Or maybe that's all it takes regardless of the severity. I don't know?
I wish to thank everyone for the best wishes offered to me regarding the pneumonia.

Big day planned for today. It is my wife's 72nd birthday. We're going to North Dallas to my daughter's (#2) home to visit them and my son, DIL, and our two-month grandson from San Antonio. Then we go to attend my granddaughter's basketball game at the YMCA. Then I'll drop my wife back off at daughter's home where my other daughter #1 and family will be at after the game. I'll take the time to run over to Discount Model Trains and spend money on train stuff. Then back for cocktails and dinner/birthday cake. We'll be spending the night there before heading out after breakfast in the morning. I am not taking any chances driving 65 miles in the dark tonight after drinks and not feeling 100% to begin with. Besides, I will have all of my train booty in the car that I want to arrive safely at home. Well, that and my wife.

Thanks to all who liked or commented on the trees that I managed to produce; Guy, Lee, Louis, Karl, Joe, Tom O, Steve J, Mikey, Dave B, Chad, Patrick, James, Gary, Smudge, Curt, Tom, Rick, OB Ken, Hughie, IB Ken. It's encouraging to me since I really don't like making them, although this batch wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe it will grow on me.

A lot of comments have been posted regarding fast food establishments. I can't comment much since I have never been a fan of fast food with one exception. I have a #2 Whataburger with cheese and onion rings about once every two or three months. I have posted before that I have never in my 70 years eaten at a McDonalds, which I credit for my good health. I have eaten at a now closed Fuddruckers and thought that was very good, but I didn't consider it a fast food establishment. Wife who eats at these places more than I do, says Mooyahs is very good.

Curt/Mikey - How do you guys get your wives to help with the layout??? Mine won't even come near the train shed.

I did make a short trip out to the train shed yesterday and made a few more trees. Not enough to share a picture yet, since I didn't take any.
I don't really have any selected pictures for you today, so I just leave one from last spring that I like a whole lot.

Many of these comments are leftovers from yesterday when I didn't have proper time to be responsive.
Chad - Interesting tale regarding the gas station. Here in Texas, most stations have a decal on their pumps explaining that very information regarding the $150 hold.
Lee - I also always liked the smell inside feed stores. I still visit a few times a year, although not nearly as often as I used to now that I stopped raising chickens.
Great freight car pictures yesterday.
Alan - Thanks, but I cannot take credit for the roof on the feed store that I posted Thursday. It is a printed cardstock roof that came with the kit. It is a Blair Lines laser-cut wood kit called Greene's Feed & Seed.
Curt - I didn't see any answer to your question regarding the continuous glucose monitor. It has a small needle that is embedded in the arm and reads continuously. My buddy who uses one reads it with his phone.
Troy - Those are really nice boxes.
Mikey - See response to Alan above regarding the roof. This is what mine looks like from the back porch.
12-29-12 001.JPG

Guy - Most excellent switcher pictures.
Tom O - Hated to read about your grandson's adventure and injury. Hope that he recovers soon without any future trauma.
I am quite aware of Seasonal Affective Disorder, but it doesn't bother me very much any more. We don't really have that many bad days here in North Central Texas. I would guess that we have at least 320 days of sunshine a year.
Dave B - When I refurbish trees, whether store-bought or rescues from my old layout, I mainly just use a spray adhesive and dip into the same color ground foam. The I apply some dull coat to make it all stick. Many of the store-bought trees have a good amount of foam in the bottom of the package that didn't stick well to begin with.
Louis - My bout here with the pneumonia while serious, hasn't been debilitating. I am in reasonable good health and the main issue has been shortness of breath and lack of stamina. I have been working in the garden and keeping up with firewood, both this years supply and next years cutting. but I am having to take too many breaks for me. Thanks for the thoughts.

Everybody have a great Saturday. Stay safe and warm.

I must have a dozen of these. There'll have to be a car dealer on whatever layout I build! 😂.
Alan- I will see your dozen '55 Chevys and raise you with 28.
20220212_083450.jpg

As I gathered the '55s, I totaled up 11 of these '49 Mercury hot rods.
20220212_083434.jpg

And here is the sum total of my '53 Ford station wagon collection.
I think I have more vehicles than rolling stock.....cause they are so small.
