Added another inexpensively purchased structure for the swap meet. I've found that "good enough" sells. Large, intricate, highly detailed models (wood or plastic) draws interest, but no buyers. Too fragile, space considerations, & cost is my theory.

If this was going on my layout it would have been done a lot differntly. I tried the Walthers decals again and just gave up.

David - As I recall from building this particular kit years ago; the Sunrise Feed Mill decal that is supplied, is too large to fit anywhere on this structure.

Good afternoon folks, 72 here right now, supposed to start dropping until it hits 20F tonight! My back predicts they are right. Wound up getting BIG box from Microtrains yesterday, I had ordered 5 of the Liberty series buildings as they were on sale and got ten! I......messed up! Anyway they will look nice finishing off the Christmas layout and on the GD Fox Mesa area.

Well, breaking in the present from the offspring:

Bottled and Bond!

The glass is interesting. That's ice to the right. There is a rubber stopper wedge you insert, pour in the water and freeze. Remove the stopper, and you have wedge ice in the glass. Cool whiskey!

NWS Tornado Watch 643 has been issued until 2000 EST for my area.

This is a first for me after 63 years. Looks like rain within the hour, but that's about it. We are on the extreme southwest edge of the watch area.
Looking at the weather maps, looks like the Illinois has just about every sort of weather going on from Tornado warnings/watches, winter weather advisory, wind warnings, severe storms etc......

We had a pretty good thunderstorm roll thru the area late this morning, and now the fierce North winds have dropped the temps back almost 10 degrees iin the last 45 minutes.

Stay safe, and vigilant, its going to be a wild ride!

Good morning, 40F and not raining.

I had planned to getting an Accurascale Pannier tank since I always wanted one and finally this one came out that has good reviews and isn't too bad in price. The plan was to wait till next month, but when I took a glance around the world 2 days ago, they were all sold out and my normal source only had one left (DCC ready), so I sent my email and didn't hear back until this am since they had boxing day. I buy from these guys since they actually test the loco for me. Their prices include VAT, which they remove, so I get a 17% discount off the bat.

I have been trying to make clear ice and just thought of this. Recently, some of my ice have been coming out almost clear all the way through and I think it is because I make 3 trays at a time. From what I've seen on the interweb, the secret is to let them cool slowly, so they've been selling small coolers to put the ice ball/form/tray into. The cooler would slow down the process, but needs a lot of freezer space. If I make 6 trays at a time, I wonder if that would work. Going to have to give it a try.

I did try using an insulated coffee mug once, but I couldn't get the ice out!

get a small cooler. Freeze about 2 inch of water in the bottom. Once frozen, remove ice (you may let it sit out for a while to loosen)

Put block on a cutting board.

Use big serrated knife to carve away the white cloudy edges.

Forget which booze channel on Youtube I saw that technique on.

I am in San Antonio TX at the moment, and the other day drove by the UP East Yard…
At the corner of Austin and Duval I noticed a Humpty Dumpty pile of intermodal cars obviously off the rails…
They weren’t there the last time I was here… and don't show on Google Maps..
But I found an article that explains their existence…

Yeah I saw that as well. Wife would give me grief if I did all that! haha

Here's some of the "pets" that come through the yard:

Tanuki - referred as a racoon dog. The ones that pass through look nice and plump, so probably someone feeding them as they are kinda revered in Japan.

Chinese civet - nice padded feet and can climb fences. In the pic, one is coming down the fence on the right. First time I saw one, I though it was a big, furry cat. The anti-cat mat has no effect on them with their pads.

And a bonafide racoon. I don't think they are indigenous.
