Some of you may remember the issue with my insurance not wanting to pay for my blood pressure medicine, and I mentioned I had found that medicine on Wally World's low-cost drug list. So, instead of $80, it should be $9. I asked the doctor to send the prescription to them. Today, I got an email notice my Rx was ready. Imagine my surprise when, once again, it's $80.
I'm currently on hold with them to find out where things went wrong. I've been holding for 19 minutes and counting...

Okay, so after an hour on hold, I found out my prescription is a combination, and one of the two parts isn't covered by insurance or the low-cost option. They gave me the name of another drug that is on the approved list, and I'll check Monday about it. In the meantime, I went back to the river pharmacy, and navigated away from insurance payment options. My price is $17. So, since the meds work, I'm not sure if I want to change anything. If the price was higher, then probably.

The health insurance program out here is nice at pretty much a 30% out of pocket expense flat rate, but if you forget your card, then you pay 150%. The dentist that I used to go to doesn't accept the JN insurance, only US. This way, she gets to charge the 150%. The patient is responsible for the amount up front and then they go after their US insurance for reimbursement.

I don't buy anything made in China if it touches food. They can say whatever they want about bpa free or carcinogen free or whatever, but after all the lies, I don't trust any of it. Even the US branded stuff, if it says made in China as most do, I go in the other direction.
People think I'm nuts because I will pay a premium for "Wild Caught" seafood and not the inexpensive, farm raised in PCB laden sewage stuff.

Good evening everyone!

I survived the shopping trip. At least the temps were decent and we could walk around in just sweatshirts. The clothes damage wasn't as
bad as I thought it would be. We ended up eating at Chili's. We haven't been there since we stopped at one in Florida on Spring break.
The service was excellent, and the food was pretty decent.

Now time to head to the basement and play with trains.

Have a great rest of your Saturday evening!

We do pretty much the same. We even make sure our pet food and treats are made here and not overseas.
Cant imagine the garbage they put in that! It cost more, but I believe its money well spent.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 60°, warmer than Terry for a change. Still looking at a cold front tomorrow, originally forecast for sunset, now advanced to 3:00 pm. Won't last too long, back into the 60's and 70's by Wednesday. Tuesday will be nice, but just not warmed up yet. Still absolutely no precipitation in the forecast. As I have posted before, this is a La Niña winter weather pattern with warmer and drier conditions than average for the Southwest. But Mother Nature can change her mind at any time.

Changes in our schedule, actually earlier in the week but I wasn't told until yesterday; but we're doing my wife's side of the family Christmas gathering at the Sister-in-law's house this afternoon. Might be 14-16 people depending on who shows up. I'm glad that I asked yesterday!

The dishwasher couldn't wait yesterday and after a baking session in the morning I had to run it around noonish instead of the usual nightly run. Then I had to empty it while preparing supper. Other mundane tasks occupied the rest of the day. My chest really itches from the hair growing back after the surgery 2 weeks ago. But not the groin area? Wonder why?

Out in the train shed yesterday, I unpacked the Christmas booty. The usual $50 gift certificate from Discount Model Railroads. My daughter's in-laws went with her when she went, and commented to us about all of the "naughty" Noch figures available there. They got me a set of dog-walkers from Noch instead.

I also got a new set of paint brushes , all with "pointy" tips for figure painting.

Some are a bit big but will be useful for things like molded-on window frames.
A surprise was a track-powered EOT device from Bachmann.View attachment 252645

But it was made for the extra-wide Bachmann kingpin.

Somewhere on the layout are a couple of Bachmann cars that I fixed up and could use, but then I had a brilliant idea! What about those mystery washers that came with all of those Intermountain tankers that I showed you last week?View attachment 252648
Perfect fit.

Although it was a press fit, I dabbed a bit of super glue in and mounted it on a grain hopper that trails a unit grain train.

The coupler is a plastic EZ Mate, which shouldn't matter since I won't be coupling a car to it anyway.

Louis - I am in agreement with you regarding hams. I only purchase bone-in whole hams, so no chunking possible. I do tend to choose name-brand hams over store-brands.
Terry - I thought about a load of steel plates for the flatcar, but have decided against it. Making the plates and dunnage is no real issue, but getting the right color paint for the steel might make the task impossible for me. I have a similar pipe load on a shorter car that worked out OK, and I will enhance this load a bit.

I do have the second bulkhead flat and a regular flat car that I might use in the future when I have more time to experiment with the color. Specifically I am using the TTX car because it will provide a better contrast of colors than this weathered BN car or the black AOK car that I posted.
Michael - Sitting in my backyard is enjoyable whether the trees have leaves or not. Without them, I can see the wildlife better. The Cardinals are currently searching for mates and scouting out nesting locations here.
Kusojiji - My rodent problem is disappearing since two feral cats took up residence in my demolished barn. They're having to come scavenging meals nearer the house under the wood piles now that they have cleared the wreckage. Good luck with yours.
Most other German type lagers that I have tried, are not quite as sweet as Yuengling, but that doesn't detract from the taste for me. Michael is right though, it is now a higher quality American beer.

Everyone have a great Saturday.
Well I'll say it appears the mystery of the "Intermountain washers" has been solved. What are the chances of that item working so well to solve your issue with the Bachmann truck.
Don't forget the Plano train show on Jan 17 & 18. After the train show you can go to Discount Trains and cash in that gift certificate. You can apply the gift certificate towards your total purchase. 🤑🤑

Happy New Year....John

Kind of depends on which day I go to the show; Discount is closed on Sundays except for the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Someone has revived Pan Am (airways)

Seems to be a work in progress.

The Google search engine AI says this:

Is Pan Am coming back in 2025?

AI Overview

Pan Am Returns to the Skies — A Little Differently Than ...

Yes, the Pan Am brand came back in 2025 for special, nostalgic luxury trips, like the "Tracing the Transatlantic" journey in June/July on a private 757, but this isn't a full commercial airline return; however, plans are underway with Avi8 Air Capital to potentially relaunch Pan Am as a scheduled airline, aiming for operations around 2026.

What Happened in 2025:
  • Specialized Tours: Pan Am Brands partnered with tour operators for exclusive, expensive trips (around $60k+) that recreated historic routes, complete with Pan Am branding and themed experiences.

  • The "Transatlantic" Trip: A 12-day journey in June/July 2025 traced original Pan Am routes across the Atlantic, visiting cities like NYC, Bermuda, Lisbon, and London.

  • Pan Am Experience Restaurant: A themed restaurant was set to open near LAX in early 2025.
Future Commercial Relaunch:
  • FAA Certification:
A major step was taken in October 2025 as Pan Am Brands and Avi8 Air Capital began the FAA certification process to bring Pan Am back as a scheduled airline.

  • Target for Launch:
If successful, this new commercial venture could see Pan Am operating with Airbus aircraft out of Miami, with potential operations starting in 2026.
So, while you couldn't book a regular Pan Am flight in 2025, the brand was active through special events, and serious steps were taken for a potential full return as a commercial carrier.
