Good Morning All. Dense fog and 60°. Supposed to clear off soon and reach 80° later today, same forecast for Christmas day. Fog is so dense this morning, that I can't see the train shed just 90' away! Slept with the windows open again last night, maybe the 3rd or 4th night now. Almost had to use the A/C yesterday.
Happy Christmas Eve to all. I'm reminded of the line from a song, "then one foggy Christmas Eve".
Not sure of our schedule or other tasks today. I know that my wife will be making a Boston Cream pie, since all of the pre-made stuff is in the fridge. It's the favorite of SIL #2's Dad who is down from South Jersey to enjoy the holidays here. Mom's here too. They finally sold their business up there and retired, although she is still on the payroll as a consultant. But as part of a tax write-off, my SIL has been on their payroll as a consultant as long as I have known him, over 20 years dating back to when he met my daughter in college.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I opened day 9 of the Ten Days of Christmas project. I stepped out a bit and opened an Athearn Blue Box kit of a well car.
I'm not actually done with the assembly yet. I did note that they included, whether intentional or not, seven ladder/grab assemblies when only four are used.
OK though, since I think that I have a broken one on another car. I have to think about where I will use this car, since I don't have a modeled intermodal facility on the layout. I have extra containers but I have four complete intermodal trains of 16 cars each that are used as unit freights to interrupt switching sessions.
I also pulled a building off the layout to add some details and figures. It's a Walther's background structure known as
Commissary/Freight Transfer Background Building. I am not using it as intended, but as a generic destination for freight cars.
Whooops! We have a problem with a missing part.
The other side.
I looked around but couldn't find anything, but this structure was built and was on the old layout, which got moved 15 years ago, so it could be anywhere.
I guess that there are two options, call Walther's Customer Service or just make one myself. I'm going with make one myself. Should be easy enough. Because of it's location on the layout, it probably wouldn't be noticed by anyone else, but I would know that it was missing!
Todd - Other than the memory usage, I haven't noticed any of the other subtle differences between Firefox and Chrome; since I don't use Chrome unless Firefox is out. As a creature of habit, I have been using Firefox for close to 20 years now. It was a better alternative to Netscape and AOL when it first came out.
Tom O - I'm caught in the same "not exchanging gifts with each other" dilemma as well. I keep a spare Ben Franklin or two in an envelope just in case. This year I ordered something from her Amazon "wish list", that's too expensive for the kids to get. But it isn't supposed to arrive until after Christmas. So far she hasn't noticed the purchase on the credit card yet, but only because she's been too busy baking to pay attention to that right now.
Michael - Our resident squirrel is resourceful and lazy. He hid acorns and pecans in an abandoned bird nest!
This one's for Louis, vocalist/bassist Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead; was born on this day in 1945. Sadly he passed into Rock & Roll heaven 10 years ago.
Everyone have a great Wednesday. Merry Christmas if I don't see you tomorrow.
