Worked on that bad pantograph this afternoon. The first small dab of JB Weld wasn't strong enough to hold even after curing, so I had to use a larger blob of the stuff and sit still for five minutes without moving my hands while the stuff cured. I let it sit for another 30 minutes before trying to put the contact strip on and hooking up the spring to the contact strip.

It does not move up or down anymore, but it didn't after the first fix either. It also would not stay locked down, so I ended up having to tie it down to the bottom framework.

Looks better than it did, and it's doubtful anyone will even notice while it's running. My eyes are getting too bad to work on stuff this small anymore.

"The fastest train in the U.S. is Amtrak's NextGen Acela, which can reach speeds of 160 mph (255 km/h) on parts of the Northeast Corridor, with its new trains designed for this speed, offering a significant upgrade in speed and comfort over the older Acela fleet. While the previous Acela hit 150 mph, these newer, domestically-made trains are gradually rolling out, making them America's fastest passenger rail service."
Hmmm... "crapola"
Yeah for all 10 miles of track that they can go that fast on (or whatever the distance is)

Wow, 3+ pages since I posted this morning.

The son said they will be here for Christmas arriving late 12/20 and leaving 12/26. They will leave Austin late on 12/19 driving the 7 hours to Tulsa to see his g/f’s mom and sister. They will have brunch with them and head out 12/20 for the 11 hour drive here. They will split the driving. This is the 1st g/f he’s let drive his vehicles! He wants to see his nephew play hockey at 9:45am on 12/21. Good thing because I have an OPS session on 12/20 and should get back home around 9pm.

So with that info! The guest suite has been cleaned and its bathroom immaculately cleaned by yours truly and inspected by the health department (wife) and is approved. The lower level Christmas tree has been set up. My cave was vacuumed by Roomba twice today. It’s doing the train room now. The vents for heat have been opened in the suite because while they both are imports to Texas they are fully accumated to Austin weather. They’d freeze in the 68f degrees i keep the lower level at. I kicked it to 70 and on 12/20 will raised it to 72! I left the train room and my cave at 68 but will have to raise the cave before they get here. If they need it warmer they will have to ask me or turn on the fireplace! I was told at dinner tonight to clean the bath room next to the train room like I did the one in the guest suite! OK… I just finished that. So now the pope can come visit and have a couple very clean bathrooms, like the train room bathroom was even dirty…geez! It’s just the son and his girlfriend

I asked why the driving and the basic answer was “I fly 2-3 times a week” and I want to drive. I turned the extra refrigerator and freezer on in the garage. Terry changed her baking and cooking schedule. She told the son to bring his coolers and she will fill them for the return trip. He was thrilled with that. The daughter then asked when she was over today for any extras Terry makes. The daughter asked if I’d be baking bread and I got the stares when I said nope! If I do the son has been my helper in the past but I sure wasn’t planning to bake…

I am hiding out now in the cave. The honey do list appeared on my IPadPro notes as I sat down. Where do the ladies get these things to do ideas?

Everything is a rush because Terry and I are going to KC Thursday morning to watch the Badger VB team in the final 4 semi final game in the evening. We come home Friday. I had 8 hours of time left for the year on the brother’s plane. 3 other couples I have recruited to join us and if the 3rd couple comes along I’ll get my 8 hours back to use in 2026 plus next year’s allowance! I’m now relaxing

Enjoy the evening

Update on the two Fleabay purchases: The engine with the missing decoder has been responded to, and the seller has offered a partial refund. Since the adjusted price will be less than I can get a comparable engine from anywhere else, I'm going to hang onto it.
The other purchase, the seller has never responded in any way, and I've opened a refund request with Fleabay.

Good morning all. 3c, but feels like minus 10c
A large coffee please, Flo.

Railway Horses. Seen around railway stations delivering goods locally. Paddington Station had quite a large number of them.

Friends visiting for Afternoon Tea, so I shall be 'teaboy'.

British Red Squirrel They are timid over here, not like the ones across the pond.
