I’m with my son up on top of the Shonuya Sky building. On the roof observation deck. It’s the 46th floor. It’s sunny and kind of breezy. Big 8-9’ tall glass walls but I still don’t like getting up close to the edge. I do it slowly.

Here is a shot from where we’re sitting on some couches looking East. I’ll upload more from my laptop later as most of the ones I tried to insert have been rotated.

That's a nice view! Heights get to me too sometimes.

Btw. This claims it’s the 47th floor and 771 feet (229 meters). The observation decks on SkyTree are 350m and 450m so a bit taller but not outdoors. I’ve been up at 350m on SkyTree twice (once during the day and once during the night) and 450m once (same night visit) and now this Shibuya Sky building for the first time. It’s pretty cool.

I had mentioned I received 1000 ft of Lionel track free on this forum the other day along with some electronics. A golf friend of mine said he wanted to start a layout. I told him I would give him some of the track and other things to get going. The picture below of the Lionel Trainmaster it what? Some kind of DCC unit? If he were to start a layout would this unit hook into a regular transformer. If so what kind of transformer? Swal

I did not see anyone replying to this. If you would post it into the appropriate area of the forum (like O-scale) more people might see it. Not everyone reads the coffee shop thread.

Google is your friend. The hard part is knowing the trainmaster is also called TMCC. Stands for Train Master Control something or the other.
Here is a manual to start with. Specifically see page 4. https://www.lionelsupport.com/Support Service Documents/71-2867-250.pdf
I believe all but the most recent Lionel things can still be powered with any old Lionel transformer. 16-18VAC.

Did he just moon us?
Yes, I did. 🌝
Amazon, for me, has been good most of the time for train stuff. Shipping is free and most of the time, next day. If the price is higher than retail, then I check who the seller is and go elsewhere.
That is the smart move. Many train stores sell on Amazon, Train World, Trainz and many others. They all have to make up for Amazon's fee somewhere. The price often depends on how badly they want to sell it.
I bought the album based on hearing only 2 songs from it.
With as many LPs as you have, I'm sure it was not the first. I have maybe a dozen LPs I bought that only have one song I like.

eBay - My primary source for Lionel Trains. Once I learned to be patient and realized there is always another. I typically buy things at 25%-50% below the Lionel Price Guide, sometimes even lower.

MB Klein, used to be my source for new Lionel, but they closed the store. I bought many things because I saw it on the shelf. Back then I seldom checked prices. MB Klein was always competitive, and I didn't need to pay for shipping, I could pick it up at the store.

Lionel's Online Store - If you watch for specials, they can be more than competitive and usually offer free shipping with a minimum order.

Amazon - With Amazon's dynamic pricing strategy you never know what kind of deal you might find and they can change in an instant. That is if Amazon is the seller. I've gotten some fantastic deals on Amazon. I've passed up on many more not so good deals on Amazon.

I will buy from anywhere if the price is right. One of my Lionel Polar Express sets came from Walmart; they had the best deal!

Merry Christmas to Everyone!
Merry Christmas to you as well!

Didn’t do a lot yesterday as I have been down with the annual cold season but did work on my track plan for you all to judge this afternoon. Will start on it again in a bit. Debating the “less is more” with wanting to railfan with 3 trains and getting everything I want…..lol.

As Charlene says, get something done and quit changing.

Got some neat things finished yesterday though, I thought these dice rollers were cool as the boys and our friends do lots of game nights. I printed some dice rollers that will keep the dice from knocking things over. Not train related but just more printing. Something different.

Have a great day everyone

Good morning from cold Wisconsin. It’s 0f/-17c degrees. High for the day 15/-9. 105 miles north of MIGALYTO who is having a warm spell this morning!!!

Volleyball on campus tonight, round 1 of the NCAA Tournament.

Swing Bridge, approach bridges, abutments and river piers are almost weathered. A spray of matte clear is drying overnight. See the thread Lets build a Swing Bridge…

I want the swing bridge to be done 100% tomorrow. I have a couple washes and the center bridge base to do today and a final clear coat Friday. The 2 girder approach bridges I want done 100% on Monday and everything delivered on Tuesday. My timeline, no one else’s.

The daughter and family head out after 5 to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a hockey tournament. The grandson’s 1st game is noon on Friday. Had to take off from school

Be well

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 41° here. Can't compare to the temperatures that Mike and Tom O are reporting this morning! Radar shows rain here and all around, but my weather rock says otherwise...it's still dry. But looking out the NW window, it looks like it's raining up on the hill at a neighbor's house about 3/8 mile away. Temperature will not change much today, colder tonight and then another gradual warming up. An overall dreary day today.

Not a real notable day yesterday, I did get the ashes emptied from the wood-burning heater, one pail full. I left some since it wasn't all that urgent considering the weather forecast for next week.
I'm ready for the weekly grocery trek today after skipping last week. Have the list ready, coupons ready and digital coupons clipped online. Surprisingly the list is somewhat short. Have to make a stop at the UPS Store to return a defective product that we received from Amazon, that is too heavy for my wife to have taken earlier in the week. UPS is just across the road from Kroger. Later today, I have a phone appointment with the financial rep to discuss moving some retirement accounts around, to offer us some additional flexibility in investing. I also want him to set up a direct brokerage account for the RMD's that I have to take before the end of the year. I could probably figure it out on my own, but it would take longer.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued painting some figures and ran some more trains in their re-configured mode. I also painted and assembled a small outhouse from a Grandt Line kit.

I'm trying to clear out some leftover stuff right now. This came as part of a kit with three company houses w/outhouses. Everything else in the kit has been used. I haven't scouted a location for this yet, but there are several possibilities.

Tom O - Regarding Outback Steakhouse: At one time they were not a bad casual dining experience. Prices were reasonable, menu selection was very good and servings were adequate enough. Their downhill slide began with Covid restrictions. Since then, every 6 months or so, they had a new menu with less and less items, while at the same time ever-increasing prices. Service has also suffered. It now takes 7-10 minutes to get drinks from the bar at the one closest to us. The menu today is less than half of what it once was, confirmed to us by the manager who is a friend of ours.
No one takes reservations in the local area, and there is almost always a short wait at Texas Roadhouse, Longhorn or other similar places.
That is one hell of a layout that you described yesterday. Most clubs around here don't have that much area. I limited mine based on how much I felt that I could maintain by myself as I advanced in years.

The late Beach Boy drummer Dennis Wilson was born on this day in 1944.

Everyone have a great Thursday.

Well howdy there internet peeps and those old enough to shave

It's Troy again.

Welp... I hit a gusher this morning on the shave... I hate those little skin bumps that seem to form as I grow older. I need to make an appointment with the dermatologist and get in a for a baseline look and make sure none of the age spots are things to worry about.

But, this morning, yet again, I knocked the top off a skin bump under my nose that wasn't there yesterday.

I've been watching and being careful under my left nostril due to a bump there. I avoided that one, but the one under my right nostril reappeared. These aren't dark spots. Just little bumps that come and go.

And they love to bleed.

So I hit the big box store for groceries and picked this up:

It's charging now and I'll give it a test drive tomorrow.

I actually started playing with the layout templates on the upper deck this morning. One side of it is starting to gel in my brain about what goes where.

More on that later.

23°F here this morning. W/C is 12°F. I'm glad I have no reason to even open my front door this morning, but boy has Mike got it cold! 2°F?

I got the road in yesterday, but it's not very visible because of the eye level and it is in-between buildings. I know it's there, but unless you are really examining the layout for details I don't think anyone will even notice that it's there. Maybe I need a tractor and a flatbed wagon.

Oh well. I'm probably going to be back in the train room working on some small details today and running the trains.

We had an Outback open in the late 80s near me. My second wife and I went there frequently in the late 90s, but I could tell the quality had started to slide. The meat wasn't as good, the service was off, and the place was not as clean as I would have expected. It closed sometime in the 00s. I haven't been to one since and don't know if there is one in Du Quoin or Carbondale.

Have a great day! Servus!

The outback we've got here in the Fort is right off the highway, but a twisty turny road around the shopping center, or go down a few more lights, then up over the highway, hang a left, then another left.

it's almost alway less than half-full on weekday evenings.

The Texas Roadhouse about a 15 minute drive away on the north side of town is in-between two exits off I-69 (The Highway around here). A lot easier to get to.

they do take online reservations (they refer to it as Call ahead seating or something) at Texas RH. And you need them a lot of nights. From about 5:30 on any evening, they are packed. And very noisy.

We've been doing Logan's Roadhouse. It's got table-traffic in-between the levels of TRH and Outback. Not as busy as one, but busier than Outback.

I agree with Willie, the menu and service is going downhill at Outback. Here at our local, the "Server" takes your order or notes a need for a drink refill on their e-tablet. Someone else runs the food or beverages out from the kitchen. We don't do alcohol with most meals, so no data on bar drinks.
