I had mentioned I received 1000 ft of Lionel track free on this forum the other day along with some electronics. A golf friend of mine said he wanted to start a layout. I told him I would give him some of the track and other things to get going. The picture below of the Lionel Trainmaster it what? Some kind of DCC unit? If he were to start a layout would this unit hook into a regular transformer. If so what kind of transformer? Swal

25°F this morning. Expecting 30°F again and snow this afternoon. Probably won't see it until after dark knowing the Talking Head's predictions as I do.

Good train session yesterday with no problems noticed other than things starting to dry out excessively. I guess it's time to get my water bucket and wire frame set up again. I use a towel hanging on a coat hanger frame to soak up water out of the bucket to try and put moisture back in the air. It works.

Servus!

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where my back is screaming at me that I’m not in my 30’s. Took some Ibuprofen about 80 minutes ago and I’m still feeling it. If it wasn’t +7f/-14c degrees I’d go for a walk.

I watched 1 minute of football yesterday, forgot it was Sunday. Watched long enough to see the Bills/Steelers score, smiled and turned the monitor off.

Yesterday, used the snow blower at 9:15 in the morning. At 10:45 met the grandson at the hockey rink to buy his new discounted by 12% stick. Was more expensive than I wrote about because he can’t use the Junior sticks, he moved to the next level for $278 with tax for 1 stick! I got home and purchased 2 of the exact same stick, because they break, for $300, no tax, shipped from an online store. I prefer to buy local but sorry, getting ripped off is not getting me to buy from the Ice Arena’s pro shop again.

At noon watched the Badger hockey women destroy Stoneyhill university in a tournament championship game in Nashville. 17-2 was not even fun to watch. The Badgers have 8 of 24/rostered players playing for 3 countries in the Olympics. They should never been scheduled to play in this tournament. Should be a good dinner with Coach and his wife tonight. You have to let your players play to win. He let the 3rd and 4th lines play a lot more than normal and they were pretty good. At 5 watched the Volleyball selection show. ThevBadger ladies are ranked #10 in National poles and ab3rd seed in the Eastern Regionals, fair but they have beaten 3 of 4 seeds ranked above them. They have a fighter’s chance. 1st tourney game is Thursday at the UW Fieldhouse which is a great advantage

Last night worked on the river piers and abutments. See the swing bridge thread

Today, it’s cool with a high of 22f/-5c guessed at by the app. So, whatever the wife suggests I’m open to.

Enjoy the day

Sunday we went to church. The congregation we went to is one that includes the congregation that was my wife's home one when she lived n the area. (Two congregations were merged to make one stronger one). So it was a little but of a hike. About 12 minutes of walking, an hour of travel y various subways and trains, and then another 12-15 minutes of walking.

We took the Kobe subway to Sannomiya and then took two Hankyu trains, a rapid and a local. This was the rapid I think:

Lastly something I've found in a lot of public toilets. A seat cleaning station. It tells you to grab some toilet paper, soak it with the alcohol cleaner stuff from the dispenser, and wipe down the seat. I've seen them in multiple public toilets in malls and stations etc. It's a great idea.

Sunday evening Pikachu met his end. He'd been living here for 2 days and was a little dry but he was good. We all had a piece.

IMG_0300.jpeg

Today we went to the Kobe Suma Sea World Aquarium. We took the Kobe subway and then took a small local railway that I had seen before but never ridden called the Sanyo Railway. (It is now part of the Hanky-Hanshin group but at one time was probably independent). So I have a new railway under my belt.

IMG_0306.jpegIMG_0310.jpeg

This was our end station. A fun little older station with no safety gates along the platform, just a little building etc.

IMG_0311.jpeg

We had to walk about 1/2 mile to the aquarium and I found a vending machine that had 100 yen bottles (most are 130-180 yen). It was called "Japan Cider". I had never seen this before and had to try it. "Cider" seems to be a generic name for a type of soda -- usually clear, and tart. Hard to describe. They are not all the same tasting but all are similar. This one was similar to Ramune if you've had that but tarter and less sweet and a little "rougher". It tries to look like an "original Japanese soda". It was pretty good. When I say tart, think of sweet tart taste. With a mild Ramune/bubble gum aftertaste -- just mild and not sweet one.

IMG_0312.jpeg

We made it to the aquarium and looked around for a good while. I had to try another soda I found called skål. It's a dairy/yoghurt based soda similar to Calpis if you've ever had it. I also had a "Real Gold"-- these are really good. It's a kind of citrus soda but unique. Hard to describe. They also make a more sour version in a yellow bottle. Both are good and have the "Vitamin C of 50 lemons". My goal is to try new drinks I've not had before and drink a bunch of the ones I have had and like before we leave that I won't get again for a good while.

IMG_0322.jpegIMG_0317.jpeg

Not much to say about the aquarium. Its was interesting and fun but it was like most aquariums. Plus I didn't take many photos -- I let. my son do it as he hs a new iPhone with a much better camera and I have not gotten them from him yet. But I did "win" a stuffed dolphin I'll give my daughter. You buy a ticket and then you get t o stick your hand in this big ball that has all these folded papers flying around. You grab 1 and that is your "prize". It's basically different sizes of stuffed animals. The one we were at were all dolphins of different colors. I got the smallest. In June my daughter got the mid size Orca one so when I get home I'll give her the dolphin. She's been missing us and sad she didn't get to come (though she didn't really want to because it's HS Swim season and missing 7 days of school as well is not good).

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 35°, with small areas of scattered precipitation all around me. One passed overhead in the last hour or so but didn't even completely wet anything. Won't warm up much today, maybe 42°.

As I posted yesterday, I am headed out by 8:15 or so, for jury duty; so I can't stay long. I'll probably get disqualified due to my hearing, or lack of, but I must still show up in person. The trial might also be for my currently incarcerated neighbor, which I can't judge on fairly. This means of course, that my wife will either have to take care of the dishwasher or wait til I get home.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started with running a few trains. Them the lead Dash9-44CW in one consist derailed! Not something that I experience often. Found the snow plow had come off and instead of pushing it aside, my engineer decided to run over it and derailed.

The mounting peg on one side had broken off maybe a year ago and I had glued it back. It came off again about two weeks ago and I super-glued it back on. Well, that didn't work obviously so I drilled out the old mounting peg and made a new one from some .047" styrene rod, seen on the upper side.
1764596551451.jpeg

Here it is after I re-mounted it and trimmed off the excess (to allow the frame to slip in).
1764596737183.jpeg

Then I discovered another part laying on the workbench.
1764596793684.jpeg

It is some kind of pipe coming off the RH air tank seen below.
1764596822741.jpeg

This won't be as easy, as if the first repair was! I had some options, simply glue it back, leave it off completely or do what I did.
I drilled a very small hole with my pin-vise in the remaining pipe stub to give it something a little more substantial to grip, rather than to butt-glue it in place.

OK, back on tracks.

Patrick - Prayers for your Mom.
John - I don't normally go to the fall Plano Train Show, but I usually always go to the January one.
Dave in Penn Valley - That hot air coming from Sacramento seems to be blowing some rich folks all of the way to Texas.

Everybody have a great Monday.

Today after leaving the aquarium I found the freight yard I knew was around here. It was on the other side of the station kind of by where we stay -- a few subway stops away. We don't normally go that way but the aquarium was on the other side so getting on the JR train at the aquarium let me see it. It's a small container yard a few hundred yards long. Standard Japanese domestic containers are a 12' container though they also have some domestic 20' and you also see ISO 20' from overseas and sometimes the ISO 40' ones though not all Japanese lines can handle the 40' ones due to loading gauge from what I understand. These are what I've been buying every time I come... I have a whole big plastic bin of N scale containers, which are mostly the 12' domestic ones of various models...

IMG_0339.jpegIMG_0353.jpegIMG_0348.jpegIMG_0343.jpeg

Unfortunately I did not see any more freight rolling stock yet. We're taking the bullet train to Yokohama tomorrow and spend 1 day there and a few days in Tokyo so hopefully I'll see some more freight.

After the aquarium we bid fair well to my wife who went back to a shopping mall near her sister's then back to her sister's. She was tired of wandering around. My son and I went to the Kobe station and the port area to a large shopping mall called Harborland. While at the mall (I got some shoes) I ate a crepe. Crepes here are wonderful and can be had sweet or savory with sandwich fixings. The one I had had a chocolate cream and strawberry sauce inside, a scoop of ice cream on top, then a layer of whipped cream on top with those strawberries and pieces of brownie you see in the pic. It was yummy. Often you don't have the ice cream but sometimes custard cream inside with banana or whatever.

IMG_0363.jpeg

Then we walked around the port a little and went up to the top of the tower you see lt up in red. It was pretty interesting to look out over the city. My son took the pics so I don't have any of the city, and harbor pics yet to show, except this one pic that I took of some sort of building behind the tower, but it was fun.

IMG_0359.jpegIMG_0362.jpeg

We then met up with a young man who lives in the area and had been a missionary in Hokkaido with my son and he finished his time about 6 weeks ago. Interestingly, the young man's mom is a friend of my wife's and I remember her coming over 20 years ago to my MIL apartment when my son was a baby and spending hours talking with my wife and her sister. We went and had an open shell clam ramen which was really good. With clam gyoza. Super good. That long prehistoric tail looking thing is a pickled bamboo shoot I think,

IMG_0365.jpeg

At some point tonight -- I think it was when we were walking to meet my son's friend for the ramen, we saw this vending machine for food. Another non-drink vending machine in this vending machine crazy country.

IMG_0364.jpeg

Tomorrow is the Shinkansen bullet train ride to Yokohama.

Morning all,

Got in to have 3 people waiting for IT to come in. Got 2 of the 3 done by 6:20 and finished the last one by 7:00a (I start at 6:30a) So my whole order of the day was totally shot, not difficult, but shot. Been playing catch up for the past couple of hours.

There is a dusting of the white stuff on the vehicles in the parking lot. It's supposed to accumulate to less than an inch by 6:00p. It wasn't snowing until a little after 8:00a.

Willie: Thanks for the prayers. She was able to return to the care home late yesterday afternoon. She's 89 and had the nerve to call me old at almost 65... 😆

Terry: Sounds like the new owners don't have a clue yet...Hope all goes well.

Good Evening All. Just dropping in to say hello because I must rise and shine early due to being called for jury duty tomorrow morning at our county courthouse 22 miles away. They're asking for "business casual" dress which I don't really own any of! But business casual in Texas can include a golf shirt and blue jeans, which is what I wore to work for 40+ years. It works for church, so why not a courthouse?
Maybe I'll be disqualified if the defendant happens to be my incarcerated neighbor.
See you whenever. Good Night.
You can always try this:

Good morning all!

A cold Northen Illinois morning with some fog. Currently 19F only going up to a high of 23F. Forecasters are saying another 2-4" of
snow later tonight. Winter weather advisories have gone out.

Usual Monday chores today, though most have been completed already.

not much else going on in my world.

Had a basketball game tonight but have received word it was cancelled (freshman team only) due to the hosting school not having enough
players due to illness Didn't really want to drive 45 minutes in the snow tonight..

Have a safe day everyone!

Gotta love when AC or Heat goes out over the weekend. Got an estimate today for replacement, $11K+. Bundled up and waiting till Wed for the replacement heat pump, air handler, heat strip, drain pan, float switch, plenum, pad, and labor.

Got the tree decorated up (I do lights, she does decorating), and took this side pic showing my favorite ornament.
