I’ve been communicating with a seemingly nice guy on building a bridge for him. I quoted my standard pricing for putting a kit together at the start. He said go ahead. Part of my fee is you supply the kit or I can buy it and charge Walther’s suggested retail plus $10.00. Almost everyone sends what they want built in. He said buy the kit. So I did and billed him per agreement and he paid it. Put it together, painted and weathered it. Now my prices are too high when I billed him Saturday. I billed him the minimum which was part of the agreement hourly or the minimum. I have a kit I don’t own but is paid for but the labor and materials to finish it are being contested. I’m tempted to buy another kit and return it unbuilt to him.
I say refund his money minus the $10.

BIG KUDOS TO BAR MILLS MODELS! 👍

They have tried twice since November 6 to send me 4 missing concrete footings for the coal bin. Mailing an envelope via USPS, from Maine to Oregon, is just asking for problems.

The first time I called after 3 weeks and they said they would resend it with tracking.

I waited another 3 weeks before calling and they said that it had been sitting in Indianapolis for 12 days and I should have it by 12/19.

By today I figured it had got eaten up in the USPS system again. I was going to call today and plead with them, but I received a UPS Red Label (3-day Select) box about an hour ago. Inside the box was not just the 4 footings, but the entire accessory pack PLUS 4 of their new hand painted figures. (about $22). 2 garbage men and 2 hobo "friends".

This was way more than I had expected and I will give them a call in the morning.

I tried making beer a couple of times. The first time, I bought the brew in the bag kit. Just add hot water, hang the bag and wait. My buddy said it worked but it didn't work for me. Then I bought the brewer thing, the disinfectant, the bottles and the beer kit. Sterilize everything, mix the kit in with hot water and place in the brewer, let stand for a few days and watch the yeast grow. I came home from work to find that the yeast grew waaayyy more than expected and the pressure relief valve sprayed a lot of it all over the wall. The instructions said to let sit at 70-ish degrees. This was in Hawaii and the house was in the mid 80s, so no can do.

Good morning, it's a balmy 48F, and there's something bright shining in the sky. Should be finishing up my diesel switcher kit today and can't wait to have it doing laps.

I need to do my yearly computer cleaning so probably today. It involves disconnecting everything, taking it outside and blowing it out all over the garden. It'll keep the fans alive and help with cooling if all the dust bunnies are exorcised. I'll also be spraying the connectors with electrical contact cleaner since we have such high humidity during the summer and corrosion is high.

If I don't get back to the forum, then something went wrong haha.

At first light it was 43° here in western PA. By 8am it had dropped to 30 with some real brisk wind knocking down branches and throwing trash cans all over the road. The trip to town was more of an obstacle course than the roads I'm used to. I arrived 20 minutes early before the farm market opened and in that time I watched rain, sleet, tiny snow balls and finally to snow. While at the deli counter the fire alarm sounded and everyone had to exit the building. The fire truck left, I finished shopping and as I was leaving my wife called saying the power went out. The 10 mile trip home was even more fun with ice under the snow plus even more junk on the road.
At home the house had dropped 5° and I was trying to get in the mood to fire up the woodburner in the basement and go out to start the gen set. But as I put my coat on the power came back on 😊😊 👍👍

Well Howdy there Frigid Internet Peeps, and those waiting for Peeps weather.

It's troy again.

Just got back from the Mexican joint. Had my Queso dip with the chips. Wife got a margarita. It's good when the servers don't even ask what we want to eat, and just put the order in. They do ask about drinks, and if we want something different either drinks or food, we tell them then.

Wife is supposed to get her haircut tomorrow so we'll be back out in the frigid weather. Lunch, then I drop her off at the hair place while I check out the consignment case at Phil's hobby shop. They don't stock much N scale unless it's consignment (or they misorder HO stuff). Wife then wants to go to Kohls to use some of her "kohls cash".

After I drop her back at home, I'll be heading to the game store to get a game in with the new 4th Edition rules. I'm test piloting the orcs this go, since my Ghostbusters demons aren't close enough to finished.

The giant "Siggy Orcdust" won't be going. We're not playing at a high enough point level I can include him.

But these guys, the THUNDER seers will go:

I am in San Antonio TX at the moment, and the other day drove by the UP East Yard…
At the corner of Austin and Duval I noticed a Humpty Dumpty pile of intermodal cars obviously off the rails…
They weren’t there the last time I was here… and don't show on Google Maps..
But I found an article that explains their existence…

there was kid taking pics as well…
Last pic has the truck buried deep in the ballast…

He’d been sick for a while. He had kidney failure and had a longer stint in the hospital a year or two ago. His wife had passed on a few years ago.

His passing is probably a relief for him and his family in terms of relief from is health issues and suffering.

He was a strong and plain speaker. There are many “sermons” he’s given over the years which are referred back to.

He was the university president of BYU back in the 80s when I was there and left a mark on the school (in a good way).

To show the importance of how he is regarded, there will be a televised funeral/remembrance service on Wednesday.

My wife is an RN and had seen him in the hospital once or twice. Not directly in her department but a sister department that shares the bed space with department. She’s in the cardiac postoperative recovery unit (the unit that rpeeops you for and recovers you from outpatient cardiac treatments like stents and the like). The sister department they share bed space with handles non cardiac services of a similar nature

Good evening from a fairly pleasant indoor day in So. Central Wisconsin. Still nasty outside as the winds havevstayed steady in the teens after 3pm. Before that they were in the mid 20’s but gusting into the 40’s. It has blown our 1-2” of white stuff into drifts but 1’ tall drift is nothing to talk about. Tomorrow is in the 20’s but again with high winds and gusts.

Ran trains a few times today. Lots of yellow sticky notes where things have to be fixed.

At the bench and spray booth today. I have a few commissions due in January that need the final clear coat but didn’t get to them. Maybe Wednesday.

Tomorrow is race day. Looks like 24 kids with 3 granddads and 2 single moms as chaperones and race marshals. The daughter will also be there but as hostess. Lunch is going to be Taco Bell again. The grand parent who owns our local Culver’s franchise just purchased in September the local Taco Bell. He basically gutted the inside and it’s been open only a few weeks. He is having lunch brought in. This is race #6 at the grandson’s track. They’ve been fun and except for couple kids at the 1st race no trouble at all.

Also worked on the walls for the power plant

Be well

A few days ago, someone, I think @Patrick asked me how the job search was. When I read it I wasn’t in a position where I could sit down and respond and I forgot about it when I was back on the computer. I just remembered.

I’m still unemployed but I hope I have something coming. I had the “final interview” (after a series of three prior with various engineers) with what is basically a VP of an engineering department. His title is “Director” but he said he was the head guy over engineering. That was the Monday before Christmas (a week ago). I got feedback the next day from a sub for the recruiter, who is out for the holidays on vacation, that it (and all previous interviews) were very positive. They need to clarify some things with their client that they’re hiring a position to help out and I would get detailed “formal update” in the New Year , once those details were clarified. (This is a consulting company who does projects for clients. I would work for them but they’re hiring for a specific client and project). This started in October. I think they’ve been timing “next steps” to coincide with the start of the next phase of the project, based on what the recruiter told me a month ago. Hence the “drawn out” to was, though it seems to be endemic now in this field to have drawn out hiring processes.

We’ll find out after the new year. Both their client (large airline based in what I was told originally) and their offices are basically on vacation over the Christmas band new years long holiday.

That’s the update. Otherwise I’ve been applying weekly at new positions that come up (also to satisfy unemployment requirements). I did interview a few weeks ago with GM. Don’t know how I did and I haven’t heard back though I was promised I’d hear something from the recruiter. But it’s not really an interesting position as they’ve settled on a cross platform technology stack for their mobile efforts and I don’t have that stack in my quiver, though I’ve been assured it’s easy to learn. I don’t believe in the cross platform mobile tech stacks as they’re lowest common denominator and lack performance wise and are fragile and susceptible to changes in each platforms native stack. In other words, if Apple or Google comes out with major changes to their tech in iOS or Android, these cross platform layers on top scramble to catch up and fix things.

Happy anniversary to me.
I was checking an item in my profile and noticed my original start date as a member was Dec. 28th, 2005. So I have officially been a member of the forum for 20 years.
i lurked around for several months before that date but I had to sign up to make a comment about some obscure statement.
I plan to keep my membership for awhile.

Congratulations Mikey. Forum was young back then. I didn't join for another 6 years.
