I just saw this video.....TERRIBLE!! I hope those guys in the cab are ok and they survived. That was a hit! OUCH! These truck companies will hire anybody nowadays. When I drove, man you never did this! Always had to plan, plan, and plan more for your routes etc.. I feel bad for the engineer and conductor most certainly not the truck driver.

There is an actual Twitter video that someone has of this entire wreck....it's incredible.

I don't understand how this was allowed to happen, where were the escort drivers???. As Alcomotive has said, you never do this without ensuring you can clear the crossing with the entire truck
In the UK, if you have a load this long you have to check in with the nearest signal box that you intend to cross and contact them again after you've cleared the crossing, plus a load this long would have a police escort as well as two escort vehicles.

Good Afternoon All!

When's the next flight, I hate the cold, but love the snow, I know I'm weird, but I am a Brit after all. 🤣 🤣
But WOW! love where you live.

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores and did more layout thinking. I'm not really happy with the curve going into the diesel storage tracks (very sharp). They get through it but at a crawl. I've been fighting a low grade cold along with son and dad. Speaking of dad, he has a doctor appointment tomorrow at VA.

Karl- Last night the news showed the collision but never mentioned the derailment-a small matter:rolleyes:. Glad the train crew are OK.

TomO- I hope your family make it there.

Chad- I couldn't do that. I am scared to death of heights.

Willie- Good progress. The only news I want to hear about Hanoi Jane is that she's dead. Not very Christian, but there it is.

Joe- Glad you're doing OK and that your wife's presents made it in.

Todd- I'll leave all that snow with you. I have no desire to see it in person.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Geesh - food makes your clothes shrink? And all this time I thought it was the dryer!

I have plans for a Keto pavlova, erythritol instead of sugar and egg white with little calories, I will however be dumping a lot of cream on top and fruit collected from our land sweetened with more erythritol, it is super eco friendly and I am expecting to fight anyone else off lol, I’ll take a photo regardless when’s it’s done before the husband spies it and realises just how Keto it is lol

Hi. Back again. I'm resting up after yesterday, and almost ready to head to the recliner for my mid afternoon nap. I still have a significant number of DC locomotives that need to be upgraded to DCC, as well as a box full of decoders to complete the conversion. Something to do in my spare time.

Wednesday morning at 10:50am here in Tokyo Odaiba. Partially overcast. 44F (should get a bit warmer). Rain forecast.

family left a 1/2 hour ago as we have an appointment in Asakusa for a Kimono rental for the daughter. The son didn’t want to do it but he was having second thoughts so I think they’ll ask if he can fit in.

I wasn’t ready yet (one bathroom — 4 people) but I’ll be leaving shortly to join them. Asakusa and the Skytree are the agenda today I think.

Hilton breakfast was approximately the same. Some of the chef hat guy specialty order stuff was different (and I didn’t partake as my plate was already full) and no tater tots but fried potato chunks. Some of the Japanese foods may have been switched out. Here is a pic showing all 4 of our initial plates. Kudos to whoever can place the person with their plate (me, wife, 19 yo son, 14 yo daughter).

Afternoon All,

Started out with some chores then ran errands. I picked up a couple more books at the library to read at night.

Our family tradition is on the 24th we get together and go to a movie. This started when daughter and son were young to take their minds off of Christmas for a couple of hours. On Christmas we go to daughter's house to exchange gifts and share a family supper.

Christian- Great photo. They could be related they look so much alike.

Joe- I'm glad that things went well for you, but sorry to hear about the valve. Interesting crane photo with the hose.

Jazz- That meme is great.

Jeff- I like orange rolls but haven't been able to find them locally for 2 years.

Willie- I didn't realize that you had European cars. Do you have a full train? At my old club one guy had a WWII German train along with AAC cars and a railcar cannon. It looked impressive.

Alan- Nice looking tank cars.

I hope everyone has a good night.
Lol I wonder how many of you are tempted by a Jaz moment lol.

YOU have forgotten me already - shame, shame, DAVE.
I cannot find my old Avatar of SNOOPY on this MAC which I still have not "mastered".

Good evening. To everyone's relief, I showered this morning. With the wife's help, I removed all remaining dressings, and replaced them with water block band-aids. Everything has properly healed over. I still have to restrict what i do with my right arm, for the next four days or so.

I start the process for the next round with a visit to the Cardiologist on 1/5, a CT Scan with contrast of the heart and chest cavity on 1/9, a Carotid Echo on 1/16, and a Consult with the surgeon on a date to be scheduled.

Curt: I would be in big trouble if the gifts hadn't showed up.

I'm not looking forward to the upcoming rain and sudden cold snap. My internal thermostat is a bit out of order as it is. Once the sun goes down I get cold, even though the temperature remains unchanged.

One bright outlook, beginning tomorrow, the daylight increases each day.

Good evening. I was watching the 6pm evening news only for the weather. That was a good thing as it seems to be the only story the local station was covering anyway.

As predicted everything ended at sunset tonight as the snow moved in and the winds picked up. Don’t drive, don’t walk, be ready to dig out, blah, blah, blah… The thing is sunset was at 4:26PM, almost 3 hours ago. The wind hasn’t picked up and the snow is not here yet. The news I was watching was a live up to the minute broadcast. Maybe they should have gone outside?

The alarmist reports have always bothered me. I understand we are going to get clobbered and that some of the family may not get here. I believe that. Our County and local road crews are tremendous, but I’m not driving tomorrow. Terry and I hit the grocery stores for last minute baking and food items this afternoon. We didn’t need more water, toilet paper, milk, bread and other essentials. We have a good stock. She did need eggs though. The milk was almost gone as were all the brand name breads but the bakery bread stuff was available. We checked on our order for Saturday and asked them to let us know if issues develop. I can bake dinner rolls and bread if needed. Ok, we then got extra eggs at $4.99 grade A large, that Terry tells me in October we’re $1.49. The sign on the egg cooler says the price increases are because of the Avian Flu. Those chickens need to be wearing the masks.

I hit the LHS today because my normal Thursday run is cancelled due to the incoming blizzard. I did well, except he has to order the #11, 17 and 18 Xacto brand blades for me. Seems Xacto has been having supply chain issues for about 2 years now. I have a brand of #11 and #17 blades that are terrible. Just a few slides with the blades on styrene and the edge is gone. The brand name escapes me as I type this. He also was out of Excel blades. I do have scalpel handles and the scalpel blades to fit but even though I have them, they are scary to use. One slip, that’s all…

The paint booth is in and the compressor is hooked up. I did test it for a few minutes today. The issue is, it is 3 miles from our house and we are staying here till the 1/5 closing. I am going to work on a couple pieces of my own weathering to completion before moving on to more items. I have no current client projects for rolling stock weathering. I don’t need to be efficient, I need to be able to keep busy. I have unpacked the scratch building supply’s, the tools and had the daughter bring over the bins with my Evergreen styrene rods, ankles and sheets. I have more Evergreen then my LHS and that is the honest truth. i do buy it all through him though. I will be building facades for a large 52” long brewery (.060 plain styrene and custom windows) a plant facade similar to the closed Oscar Meyer plant in Madison, Wi.(.040 styrene and brick sheet from the daughters’ laser cutter), a large modern cold storage facility ( laser sheets maybe) and a new biomass plant ( Evergreen corrugated siding). The new biomass will only be about 90’ tall as the last one ( picture below) felt out of scale on the layout. I believe I finally figured out that the height was wrong.

That’s 130’ high. That is the 3rd, 4th or 5th attempt at the biomass plant. Never got it right.

Some Christmas cheer
