Evening All,

Started out today soldering rail joiners and feeder wires. After doing this I decided to test again before moving on to new things. Yesterday everything worked without issue but today the bottom T/O will not route power on the diverging route (electrofrog). The first thing I did was remove the feeders since that would replicate yesterday but no go. I removed the T/O, jumpered it and tested different sections, and tried jumpering it without success. Needless to say I am kind of frustrated about it right now. I will mess more with it tomorrow. It is a T/O I have had from before.

Terry in Wisc- Nice videos. I am sorry about your friends.

BigE- My Mom and Son-In-Law each have one like that.

Chessie- If you are like me you will find your solder after buying another roll. Nice job on the ground throw. Happy Birthday to your wife.

Bob- That is an awesome gift.

I hope everybody has a good night.

I promised pictures of the Capitol Limited, this is the head end,

Remaining sleeping cars.
Still waiting on the Budd Dome Sleeper, and Sleeper Observation, which, hopefully, will be in by the second week in February.

Total train length will be eleven cars and is based on the 1964 B&O Consist book. Actual train featured the above consist, plus an additional coach and 10-6 sleeper, as well as the Baltimore - Detroit cars of the Ambassador. Even this train is too big for my envisioned layout.

Terry (WI): Sorry to hear what happened with your friends. Sad.

Bob:
Quite a fantastic gift, thanks for posting it. Grace is a very sweet girl.

CS3: Actually your painted track looks quite real. Once exposed to weather, each tie has it's own color characteristic. Not necessarily what you were looking for, but effective. A whitish grey wash is more effective in defining old, sun bleached ties. Brown or brownish grey, newer ties.

Karl: We have about an inch and a half of flurries here...Nothing in the local forecast until after the fact.

Sitting in the waiting room of the local hospital right now. I had just gotten back from picking up a pizza for supper and my wife was on the phone. I could tell something was up by the way she was talking. Turns out her mom had fallen and they were taking her to the hospital, so here we are. My wife is back with her as they check her mom out. My MIL is in her mid eighties and has dementia pretty bad, so under the best of circumstances things tend to be difficult. Hopefully, nothing is broken or worse. Hoping for the best. This could be a long night.

Got my fingers crossed and a little prayer going upstairs Bob.

Thanks guys, it's very much appreciated. We got the news that her left hip is broken. They're going to send her to Springfield to operate on it. It's going to be a long, rough time ahead for her and my wife.

Bob, prayers for your MIL. In her condition, a broken hip is very difficult to deal with.

On the, C&S West news I've started on building the #5 Right hand turnout for the Coal mine track. This may turnout to be a bit of a challenge to fit two mines in on the same hill.

Phil: I'm wondering a couple of things about your shot glass/es. Being that they are that old could the markings on them have any bearing to a family Crest? Also I would think being that old there must be some value to them.

Terry in NW Wisconsin: That's very sad and unfortunate about your friends and to happen at about the same time. That's indeed hard to deal with.

Garry: Your welcome, the shot is interesting.

Burlington Bob: The letter and notes your grand daughter presented you with was a very nice gesture indeed, and I can tell your proud!

Sorry to hear about your wife's mother falling and breaking her hip. My prayers she heals well and quickly.

Why am still wide awake? Danged if I know.
It's 50* now ,going to 42* with a high of 52*.

DAVID- The Calvert glass is ?MAYBE? worth a few bucks. The silver one maybe $50. It's a heirloom so it wont be going anywhere .

Kind of unbalanced bad to good news today. Better days are ahead.
Prayers and Blessings for all. Goodnight.

Phil

My last post for the night. Been half the day on this project. But I have the yard done up finally. It's not perfect but ballasting will sure help out. Have all the throws in place for the yard as well.

We're STILL waiting at the local hospital for an ambulance to transport my MIL to a large hospital in Springfield. She fell about seven hours ago and has been at this hospital for six hours. It'll be about an hour's drive from here and the temperature is 2°……………at least it's not snowing.

Who said that the US has the best health care in the world? Don't get me wrong, they are very nice and apologetic but that doesn't help much. It's not the folks here, it's just the way life is in rural America. Funding is tight in more densely populated areas but it is extremely tight, to the point of almost being non-existent, in sparsely populated areas.

When I broke my hip, I had to wait 5 days for surgery. The doctor was on vacation, the hospital ended up sending me 200 miles to another hospital.

We got to Springfield about 3:30 AM. My wife has talked briefly to the doctor and right now the plan is to do surgery to replace the ball on her hip joint. Not that she will ever walk again, it's primarily to prevent infection and alleviate pain. Getting old is not for the faint of heart.

Good Morning All. Clear and 26 degrees here in North Central Texas this morning. Only going up to the upper 40's today, then a ten day stretch of upper 50's to mid 60's. Lows will be in the mid 30's.
Bob - You are fortunate to have such a caring granddaughter. Sorry to hear about your MIL, best of luck. I understand the situation as I had to go through it several years ago. I also understand the "rural" end of things, fortunately there are three very good hospitals about 25 miles away for us. The downside is that the nearest ambulances have to come from 10 miles away and they are all staffed by volunteer fire departments. Nothing wrong with that, they just don't have nearly the EMT training as the big city guys and gals.
Terry - Sad to hear about your friends, it's unfortunate that life gets out of hand for some.
Karl - Come on down to Texas and fix my tiller please. Just kidding of course.
Chet - Did you survive the snowmobiling?

Well I got back on track (pun intended) yesterday and cleaned and lubricated the three P2K GP60's that I had stored and not run for 6 1/2 years. One of them was missing an air tank casting that I have not been able to locate; and I broke off an air-horn assembly on another when putting it on the layout for testing, and I cannot find it on the floor anywhere. I have a spare metal one in the details cabinet that I will paint and install, and then the missing one will surface pretty quickly. Made some sidewalks for a couple of DPM buildings and I will paint them today. And of course, I ran trains after a two-day period of inactivity. Today I am resuming my scenery push with some ground cover, and I have a few freight cars set aside for metal wheel conversion if I get into the mood...or if I need a break from scenery for stuff to set up.
On another front, I wish the ground would dry out a little here, as I am about two weeks away from spring planting time in the garden. Onions, radishes, lettuce and spinach are first, followed about mid-February for broccoli, beets and carrots. The garlic that I planted in October is coming along nicely, for harvest in May. This week I start the next pot of basil indoors as the older one is about wore out.
Well off to the train shed after I read a few more new posts.

Willie

Thanks, Willie! I'm very fortunate to have her! She has the biggest heart of ANY person I've ever known. They've scheduled surgery for my MIL at 10:15. We're in one of Springfield's big hospitals and the difference is huge from where she was transferred from. Denton has a very good hospital and related facilities, IIRC.

Hope Chet made it through the snowmobiling OK! I don't think he's posted since just before he announced the trip. Maybe I just missed it with everything that been happening. Think I'm going to try and get a little nap

Good morning. 37 and overcast this morning.

Bob- Sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope things go well for her. I know what you mean about living in a rural area..

Chessie - Looking good. Keep the photos coming.

Bob - That was quite the gift.

Joe - That's a great looking train. That has to be one of the sharpest paint schemes of the era.

I have a bit of catching up to do on the posts. Saturday was spent replacing the transfer casr in a friends pickup. Iy expired explosively. Blew the casing apart. He managed to find a part and drag the truck to my shop so there went Saturday.

Went snowmobiling on Sunday but the day was cut short due to an accident. One of my friends was high marking a hill (high marking is when you head straight up a hill until you start losing momentum and turn around an ride down). He either didn't turn soon enough or didn't give the sled enough power and in the middle of the turn the sled rolled over. The rider was able to bail and get clear of the sled, but the sled rolled down the hill for about 150 yards. We gathered up what was left of the sled, drug it back to the trucks and headed home. The guy was the same guy who blew up his transfer case. Not a good weekend for him.

Got back easly enough to pick up our little long hair dachshund from the groomer and had enough time left to plow the driveway.

I did have enough time to start planning something for the railroad. I needed a building for a freight atation and picked up a Woodland Scenics kit that I will have to kit bash.

IMAG0643.jpg IMAG0644.jpg IMAG0645.jpg

I will have to changer the window to a door on the right side of the building and build a platform where the white piece of styrene is. The styrene is not the shape the platform will be. Once this building is done, ballast can be added to the tracks in the town and more details added.

Now I have to go through the posts from last weekend.

Have a good one.

Chet, glad to see you made it back from the snowmobiling adventure in one piece. Sounds like it really was an adventure!

Joe, that passenger train is sharp!

It's clear this morning and cold. The temp got down to 0° last night on our trip to Springfield. Last I heard, it was supposed to get up to around 20° today. I won't complain if it gets warmer!
