Hi guys! -9f and clear.
Some great pictures today and in the past.
Haven't been in much, but I've kept abreast of developments.
Lost some good friends this week. Murder/ suicide. Unexpected and very sad. I knew him for 40 years. Never saw it coming.

Anyhoo, been getting alot of train time in with this crappy weather.

Caught this freight heading south:

Was gonna leave but heard a northbound coming:

Glad I stayed.

Terry, something like that is always a shock and hard to understand. My wife had a classmate of hers do the same thing last year. She shot her husband and then herself. Tragic.

Evening all,
It was a nice day here slightly on the cool side.

Garry: The shot of the SD-24's does look very nice and I like your use of forced perspective.

Chessie: If you haven't already found it the two rail joints of the turnouts have a bit more of a kink to joints than is probably good for operation. I start just out from the tunnel and try and curve the track a bit more to the Left to accommodate the 1st switch and hopefully allow the second switch to also be moved so it's a bit straighter in the joint area.

About the right angle cross tracks, my suggestion would be to form a small hill/rock that both tracks run into to prevent any accidents. As long as you cover your track with some masking tape to prevent any Hydrocal from getting on them you could always remove the hill later and use one or both of the tracks to extend the layout, maybe even a loop that would act as a way to change directions?

Curt: Sure looks like your doing some major track project there. Anyway, your end result always turn out great.

David B: Glad to hear that you got your backgrounds. You might consider using Photo Spray Adhesive which might be a lot easier to apply than rubber cement but you might also want to cover up tracks to ensure any fall out from the spray
doesn't cause problems. If you want to seal the surface of the backgrounds, the printed areas, there are also photo sprays to do that. I'd definitely choose a 'Matt finish' for the sealing spray.

Terry in Wis: Glad you've been able to get some train time in with the weather.

Good nite all. Oh, give the Hobo's a free ride in a box car during this cold wet weather, I'm sure it would be appreciated!

Well with the track pieces I had laid out they were actually on top of my already laid track as just a guide as to what I was planning. I don't have the required track pieces to do that plan at the moment so I used what I had to make up a guide. With the hill idea and all the other great ideas I'll use one of them I'm sure and keep my trains on the layout not the floor. We will see how this week pans out and hopefully I can get the two switches and some straight sections to do it up. As always thanks for all the great insight.

Chessie: My appologies, I was so used to working with flex track I thought you were too. A 3' piece of flex track slipped into the rail joiners inside the tunnel portal and extended out to where it would connect with the first switch and cut to length would allow you to easily curve the rail a slight bit more to prevent the kinks you presently have. Of course it could possibly be added to the second switch and then curved from there to connect a required too!

Good Morning All. Cold here at 27 degrees and clear. The rain yesterday never really materialized as I got less than 1/10th of an inch. My plans for yesterday fell through because I had forgotten about the Model Train Show in Plano TX, a northern suburb of Dallas. So off I went, visited my granddaughter and dropped off the wife before the show, toured some home layouts, and picked up my wife at my grandson's house. Also made a stop at Discount Model Trains in Addison TX just because I was in the neighborhood. What a full day! This show is really a good one. Very professionally done with over twenty home layouts on the tour. Maybe 20 modular layouts on display at the show itself, ranging from N up to G scale. This is no swap meet, all of the sales tables are manned by very reputable vendors, probably 50 of them. I only wished I'd remembered my camera to take on the tour. I usually mix re-visits with some unseen layouts and return in follow-up years to gauge progress and catch up with the owners/clubs.
That's it for now, my trains really miss me from almost two days of absence. The little plastic people are probably wondering where the artificial sunlight is!

Good morning. It's snowing and 35.

Good morning. 28 degrees with about 6 inches of fresh snow. It's just after 6 am and a few friends and I are heading out to go snowmobiling.

Catch you later.

Woke up at 3:11 to the sounds of thunder and sharp cracks of lightning. Didn't let it bother me and went back to sleep. Storm moved quickly eastward .
Temps.will only get to mid 60's and fall off to near 40 and our wintry days will be here.

TERRY-Sorry to hear of your friends demise. Thanks for the links.

ERIC-Had a late thought re shot glasses. I also have a silver shot size container. It's Russian and dated 1873. Paternal grandfather brought it from Russia when family came to America in 1910. Don't know exactly what to call it . Two scenes of of a stone fort with a flag on opposite sides and two flowers in between the forts. Haven't looked at them in years and I see they really need a good careful cleaning.

Best wishes to all for a warm safe day
Phil

Phil, I hear one person was killed during a series of tornadoes in Sarasota early this morning. From what I remember of storm patterns there, that system is probably about 50 miles South of you.

Good morning .

Terry in NW Wisconsin.... That is terrible news about your friends. ... I watched both videos.... Outstanding !
David in CA..... Thanks for commenting about the SD's.
Curt ..... It looks like track is fitting together very well.

We had a great model train afternoon yesterday. We spent time at each other layouts with visiting out-of-twn model railroaders. For dinner, we had good hamburgers at Choo Choo Ollie's in Princeton. They have it so customers sit at a counter, and a G gauge train brings your dinner. Lots of train pictures and other train stuff add to the atmosphere.

Terry- Yep, FT Meyers area. South and way west . Other tornado has hit and other deaths are liable . Our area, including Curt's home, was spared this go round.
Haven't mentioned it before MOH, DEBBIE, when dispatcher at COASTAL TUG & BARGE at Port of Miami, was known as "THE DRAGON LADY". Took no b.s.

There is some flex on my layout. I just haven't used it on any of my curves. I had thought I was going to have to use it on that very curve but I was able to find a way to use the set pieces instead.

Got the best birthday present from one of my granddaughters. Love that girl! She made me a "What I love about you" jar and filled it with 61 reasons why. One for each of my 61 years.ltter.jpgnotes.jpg

Wow Bob! That's mighty special.

Chet, I want to go snowmobiling!! I don't know the last time I even saw a snowmobile much less drove one.

Speaking of snow, they are saying we actually got a little dusting early this morning.

G'day all!

33 with snow showers today, maybe, possibly we may see a flake, not counting the ones on the Weather Channel

Not much going on here, just working on some trains, and waiting for #4 to arrive. He's been driving my old Olds since he got back from China, while a high school buddy of his is rehabilitating his Mercury Mystique (aka Mercury Mistake). His Mother (my Ex) lent it to a friend who drove it into the ground. He's fixed the mechanical stuff under the hood and the brakes, now its my turn to fix a mystery water leak a broken seatbelt, and of course, fix the radio. After all, what does Dad do best? Fix stuff! So I have a dealer tag in the truck, hopefully it will make it here! Like I need another project!! LOL!!

Terry in NW
, sorry to hear of your friends passing. There never seems to be a full explanation at times, which only compounds the misery for those left behind.

Terry (Gomez) It don't seem fair, you being several hundred miles SOUTH of me, yet you have snow, and we are being threatened with a flake or 2. Maybe this has more to do with our proximity to D.C., then the weather?

Eric
, I only have 1 shot glass. It's all I've ever needed.

Bob I must admit, that gift from your Granddaughter made my eye mist up, I bet yours did too!! :D

Well, time to get movin, later gang!!

Thanks guys! Yes, my eyes leaked profusely! Grace is the kindest, sweetest, most caring twelve year old I've ever known. She is very active in her church and wants to be a minister. She definitely has the heart for it!

Well having some fun with paint today. Can't really tell a difference. May be the lighting in the garage but this is a side by side of one of the painted ones and one not painted.
