Oh, and by the way: Larry has a Kubota backhoe/front-loader and a John Deere Gator for sale if anyone is interested.
$20K and $12K respectively. Both nearly brand-new condition.
Guns... No, he's not selling those.

If I'd had hit big bucks yesterday, I'd just buy his house and then we could take our time. Maybe buy another house and flip it.
Alas....

Had to go back to work, no winning ticket, drat!

Karl, my wife went on this morning about how people who win the lottery are actually less happy than people who don't.

In fact, according to one study, a person on kidney dialysis is actually happier than a person that wins the lottery!

My personal philosophy, if I don't play, I can't lose!

Hey "old guys" do you all take anything for anemia?
I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to take some sort of vitamins.
Starting to think I need some supplements.
I could easily go to sleep about any time of day and wear out pretty quick.

I was feeling tired and found out my B-12 and Iron were very low. The doctor prescribed me some and I admit I feel much better. I had a blood test first and that is always a good idea.

I googled B-12 because he had me on such a big dose but it said your body just gets rid of what it does not need.

I am not sure how much iron is too much.

Good morning folks.

It's sunny with a predicted high near 30. This nice day is just a break with the temps going back to highs near zero this weekend.

Interesting talk from you guys about redoing layouts. I'm in the middle of it and it's not nearly as fun as building the first time. I think it's because everything was purchased, built and placed for each specific area. Now I have to try to retrofit buildings and industries in a slightly modified layout. Sounds easy but it's hard to repurpose some of these buildings. I guess I should enjoy the modeling time I get to spend without spending a bunch of money!

I hope everyone is well.

.

There is a small area on my layout I have been tempted to tear out and redo and even though it is simpler than PRR Curts I am still reluctant to do it.

Thanks, Chet...my new backdrop will arrive this weekend

along with the new landscape that will be added as a transition it is probably a good time to tear out that track.

ERIC- Iron pills (85 mgs.) and D3 .

GARRY- Looks more like pictures of a prototype than models.

This forum is loaded with talent. Glad you let me in.

Afternoon All,

Well I am not rich today. No work on the layout today. MOH has been dealing with her chronic Bronchitis and has been in bed most the day. The train room is about 6 feet from our bedroom so no noise.

Tomorrow I'm going up to Jon's to have him solder rail jumpers on the back of the 4 turnouts since they will be joined together. I know how to do it ,but I tend to be ham handed when I do it, with melted ties. Hopefully Phil will be able to join us there tomorrow.

Garry- Great Pics.

LASM- I say go for the remodel. I have completely redone the layout in pieces over a couple of years and it runs 100% better and I enjoy it a 1000% more.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Garry - How did I miss the photos of the steel mill???? Nice photos. Wish I could get an industry like this going on my layout but I am modeling my local area and there ain't no such animal here.

Thanks for comments about the coke oven.

The coke oven ships coke to the blast furnace which also receives iron ore and fluxing stone. Here are photos of the blast furnace.

Outbound loads from the blast furnace are hot metal in either bottle cars or open hit metal cars, hot slag in open slag cars, and hoppers of ash.

Short day for me today.
5 hours of breathing sheetrock mud-dust got to me. I was hand sanding a finish skim-coat on the kitchen.
Made me sick to my stomach and just had to give up.
Yes, I was wearing a breathing mask the whole time!

I kind of wanted to bring home that grand father clock but that can wait.
Think I'll just lay down for the next couple of days.

Next is the electric furnace which receives loads of hot metal and scrap metal. It ships out slabs of steel which go to the rolling mill.

The electric furnace and the rolling mill are side by side on the layout. The rolling mill is two Walthers rolling mill kits built end-to-end.

The front wall of the electric furnace is removable in order to see details inside. It is held in place with velcro pads.

I did work briefly in a steel mill many years ago, and that is why I am interested in steel mills.

Yesterday Chet posted a short video of a model of an antique grain thresher that someone modeled. It looked familiar...there's one that's been sitting in a hayfield about a quarter mile down the road from me. It's been there for the entire 35 years that I have lived here. Here's a picture.

I couldn't get to the other side where all the pulleys and gears are due to a flooded portion of the field.
