I don't run DCC as of yet. Though I could probably use a decent switcher.

I can set the decoder to respond to DC, then when you are ready for DCC, it will already be equipped, and you can simply start running it.

If you have next week I'm interested.

Gees that'll teach me to take a "nap"..... 6 hours ago. I was about to cook some breakfast until I realized it's not getting any lighter outside.
Now I probably won't go back to bed until around 0200 and then sleep all day.
Nothing new about that.
Terry, I'm still interested in an SD70ACE in BNSF colors with sound if you run across one that's reasonable. Of course doctor it up in your special ways. DO NOT RUSH. It will take some time before I can come off with the funds for one.
Actually, I could use a switcher like you are showing. Doesn't really matter. I just run laps for the most part anyway.

This is a general household question and has nothing to do with trains. But you all have become my buddies so I'll ask.
Regarding LED interior lighting: I'd like to replace every light in the house (2 story townhouse) with LED lights. This place eats regular lights like candy and I HATE CFL lights.
Since LEDs would likely outlast me would it be unreasonable to have, or ask, the landlord to pay for them? I wouldn't take them with me should I leave but if I'm buying then you bet I'll take them with me.
Maybe go halfsies?
Anyone got a good place to buy them in bulk?
Big E,I still have the Athearn SW 1500 if you are interested. It's lettered L&N,and the lights work, and it does have a decoder in it. William.
We've replaced almost all of our CFL's with daylight balanced LED bulbs and love them. We usually get a couple every time we go shopping and Ameren Illinois is helping to offset the cost, so we can get bulbs that have a 900 lumen output for about three dollars a bulb. According to the packaging they should last about 22 years and based on three hours use a day at 11 cents per KWH will cost about $1.05 per year to use. Best part is no mercury like the CFL's have.
Personally, I think you should be responsible for the light bulbs you choose to use, unless you're requested to use a specific bulb that costs more than "normal" bulbs. Normal could be the old incandescent bulbs or maybe CFL's. The money you save would benefit you, not your landlord, hence my reasoning for you to foot the bill yourself.
Justin, do you do DCC?
If so, I have a deal for you...
This is a Proto 2000 SW8, with DCC. It runs great, but does not have functioning lights:

I'll take $40 for it.
Holy SHMIDT! 40?$?$?$??? I'm starting another penny jar with your name on it, when it gets to 50 bucks or so I'll let you know and see what you got laying around you wanna part with! I'd shuck you a money order with no qualms in a quickness! From E and others feedback it would probably behoove me to augment my fleet with an example of your fine work!

Really? $40 and it's DCC?
I might could go for that.
PM or call me.

This would be good for you Eric. You need more Chessie anyways and you run DCC. I'm still on DC.

A DCC engine can run DC just fine like a regular DC engine.
Before my NCE stuff came in I was running my DCC engines just fine. That was about a year ago in fact.

I do recall this. Me and you were thinking about going DCC at about the same time. Difference is you went to DCC and well I stayed with DC. In all honesty here you need a better Chessie engine. Geez I ran the same loco today that you have and it sounded like crap! So yeah if anything you need the engine more than me. I would like to have it but I don't have the money right now to buy it. I have a lot of Chessie power on my roster. You pointed that out earlier today. I'm more into looking for some more C&O power at the moment. I'm hoping to add a GP38 to my roster soon.

The difference is that you can disable/lock out DC operation in the set-up programming of a DCC loco. Is advised if you are only running with DCC. I have not set mine up this way as I often run on either at my club. Their is apparently a risk in DCC operation of a runaway if DC is still enabled.

I recall you being in an apartment with cramped space at the time.
As to the GP38, I might suggest a SD40-2. I love mine.

Oh I have my eyes on one of those SD40s as well. My lhs has them in stock and they look sharp! I'll add one to my collection. And I was in a cramped place at that time. Couldn't even begin to think about building a layout. Now I have one.

Might as well jack up for an SD70ACE or a ES44AC. Good beasts!!

I wouldn't buy one of them things though, just had a family loose their house only a couple of days ago. Caught fire when charging and burnt it down.
