A number of years back we took a direct lightning strike. I did have surge protectors, but didn't work very well. The lightning struck my ham radio antenna which promptly melted. It also took out the land line phones, my ham radio, two TV sets and also damaged the submersible pump.

It started raining extremely hard and I lost DirecTV signal due to the rain. One hell of a thunder storm. I turned off the TV and went out on the front porch, which is covered top watch the storm. I first saw the lightning hit on the other side of a fence about 75 feet away. May have soiled my shorts when that happened. After the rain stopped, I went to check the fence line. It hit a steel fence post, which it melted and that when I noticed that the ham antenna mounted on the roof had been struck.

Can't fool mother nature.

I guess not. I haven't been in the presence of a direct lightning strike...I have however been caught up in some extreme thunderstorms while out fishing....mind you this was before I was of age to drive and was a few miles away from the house....before I get any bad feedback I grew up in west Virginia...so yeah I was in the boonies....needless to say it was a long walk back to the house.

Hello gang,

Looks like the Baltimore region has dodged a bullet with this ice storm, as far as power outages are concerned. That's all headed toward Philly and South Jersey now [Joe, I hope you won't be affected by it!].

I haven't posted here much recently because I haven't been feeling too good. No fever, but I've had episodes of feeling weak and light-headed, and my hands start to shake whenever I pick something up. Makes it a real PITA to eat peas using a fork! Gonna see my doc about it Monday.

Anywho, I managed to drag myself to the Club meeting on Saturday to give my tree-painting clinic, which was well-received in spite of my shaking hands; I was able to do the painting demo by bracing my right wrist with my left hand.

Karl - were you able to unload that Conrail abomination on eBay? I'm guessing it was part of a "lot" purchase at one of your auctions.

Part of the reason I model the 1969-72 era is so I don't need to run any of those Chessie locos. I couldn't imagine myself trying to paint and decal one of those things the way I can with my B&O models, and I don't have the bottomless budget to afford to buy them all factory-painted.

Eric, I can definitely relate as far as those macro-level instruction sheets go! Sometimes there was only an "explosion" diagram, and I couldn't tell if some of the pieces were left-hand or right-hand. That's why I usually use slow-setting glue on those kits, to be able to fix my mistakes in time.

Gotta go now, I've reached my energy limit. Goodnight!

I guess I am probably the only one on here to remember when Chessie decided to not allow any model manufacturers to sell anything with Chessie on it. There was a big stink, and it was a public relations disaster for them. While not quite in the class of the UP licensing debacle, It still got many people's ire up (mine included) to where they never had much of anything to do with Chessie. I can probably count on one hand the number of Chessie engines I have owned over the last 4 decades, I may have a dozen pieces of Chessie rolling stock. Maybe.

Well I guess I can say I'm lucky. In a way that I am too young for any of that...though it would crush me not to have any chessie items.

I thought all those English trains looked like this!

Karl .... LOL

Louis .... Google "Mallard locomotive" and you will find that engine has quite a history. It set the speed record for steam locomotives. I think it was 118 mph. It is now in a museum in York England, and I saw it there.

Ken
I scraped the ice off the cars a little while ago (garage is full of stuff again!) and salted the driveway, maybe tomorrow a.m. wont be so bad. Keep us informed as to what the Doc says! And no, I just found the picture online. I have seen several of these at the auction house, but I won't bid on them!

However, I will bid on lots of other stuff, look in the forum members eBay pages for the latest batch, including this! March 2015 eBay 024.jpg

Night all, I,m bushed!!

Fortunately it did not last very long. I remember seeing this one, I would have bought it if it had been a Chessie/B&O

Tyco ALCO Super 630

No.250-03 1977-1979

This one I drooled over when I saw it in the store; 1974 Lionel GP20. I could not afford it back then, but when I got back into trains it was the first locomotive I bought on eBay

I bought one like this one in the early 80s when my Tyco Spirit of 76 would not run any longer.

I think that someone has an B&O addiction/obsession....I'm glad that I don't have problems like that! ;):D

Good morning (missed that earlier) and good day gentlemen....a day with for seasons here in Glasgow and UK..
Hope that you all are doing well!

Good morning. It's foggy and 31.

Louis, my very first HO locomotive was a Tyco C630, in Santa Fe red and silver. It lasted nearly 20 minutes before going *poof*.

OOOh NOOO not you! ;) You are correct 113, you don't have problems like that, your problem, like mine is singular! it is very good that we don't have a plural obsession, otherwise we may be in financial ruin! :)

Aw Terry that is just sad, how old were you.

I had great luck with both Tyco, nearly 10 years and Life-Like over 10 years, but I mostly only used them for Christmas. In fairness to Tyco I did play that one much more.

Too true my good man! ;):D
