Good morning shop dwellers. Slept in a bit late today, just finishing breakfast. Temp is hovering right around the freezing mark.

I have a coupla places to visit: First the LHS, where one of my preordered Cap Limited passenger cars is waiting for me. Then to the county library where the modular club I belong to is having their business meeting. Haven't had much enthusiasm lately for doing trains [at home], must be a severe case of Winter Doldrums.

Good morning, it is right around freezing here as well,. a welcome warmup from where we were last week.

Ran trains for a couple hours last night, have to get the bugs out of a few of my freight cars which have been in boxes for several months. Always wonder how much effort to put into a low cost item, If I can weather it up to hide the imperfections and it has some cool detail it is worth new couplers but trucks?

Couplers are cheap enough, truck--depends on what it is. If I can get a better quality car for the same money as the "cheap" one costs, plus the cost of upgrading the trucks, I leave them alone. I may put metal wheels in the trucks, depending.

What a joyous day!!!!!!
Not only did I get most of table completely rebuilt (in about 4 hours) and that old dining old from under it and the mess all cleaned up and tools put away, I just got a notification from Amazon that my NCE Power Cab, a Bachman EMD SD40-2 DCC CSX Dark Future loco and my track bumpers will arrive on Tuesday!!!!
I've been waiting to get the bumpers before I attached the yard lines so I would know exactly what track lengths to cut. Wish they would have included rail joiners in that. I'm short on those.

I don't know about the couplers on the loco however. I might have to be on to another endeavor if they aren't compatible.

Oh, and on another positive side note, one of my surveyor buddies on another forum replied to a thread I posted about anyone with CAD experience doing electrical work (i.e. control panels). Only one feller answered and showed pics of his panel interior. WOW!!! What impressive work! I asked about wire gauges since I brought the topic up here last week. He said not to buy any wire. "I have more wire to do your layout a hundred times over! I'll send it to you." I didn't know if he was kidding with me or not. I am pretty famous on that forum but didn't know who he was but he emailed me for a shipping address and said he has a whole "potpourri box of stuff" he's sending.

I guess when I say I don't really have many friends, I should qualify that with, "I don't really have many NEARBY friends." In the surveyor world I have friends all over the world. One guy sent me a case Jameson Irish whiskey straight from the distillery in Ireland.

Some of you all are starting to feel that way to me as well.

There my Sat. night reflection.
Be well my Brethren!
E.

PS: I still haven't found any RR clubs around here to hook up with.

Evening All,

Decided not to go to the club tonight since the grand kids are spending the night. Earlier today I put bears and mail boxes on the layout. I also put rust on the wheels of my new box car and rusted up some of the rivet details. My PRR signs came in! I have to say they look amazing, of course they require painting. I will try to post a picture tomorrow. Tomorrow I also want to finish weathering the box car.

Louis- I hope you and your grandson had a great time at the game.

BigE- I understand your excitement. When I started I needed 2 trips to Lowes (10 minutes from the house). MOH just could not understand why I needed so much stuff! LOL.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Hello ..

We returned from our Florida trip... Meeting Curt was a highlight. Sorry I did not meet Flip (Phil) as I hoped would happen, but he was sick.

Time to get trains running again.

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Evening Guys,

Thought I'd come on in, take a chair in the corner, put up my feet and contemplate life with a coffee! Okay, so a little melodramatic, actually I'm trying to escape some of the projects I have allowed myself ( :( ) to undertake all at the same time.

Right now I have 6 buildings in various stages of completion with another 3 in packets/boxes waiting to be started, scenery at various stages of completion and upheaval, lighting for the town and structures (20 of them at the moment), 1 F7A unit in the paint shop, about 75' of track maintenance needed to be done (cleaning big time) and sorting out the electrics for the lighting etc.

If only I could finish just one of those things :)

Aside from that, life is good, coffee is hot and all this snow and cold is just making me want to start other projects on the layout :( .

Might be time to reacquaint myself with a guitar me thinks !

Hi guys. No, don't shake my hand..........best to just stay away from me for a while. I'll sit over here in the corner so I don't spread this. Earlier today life was good, now it sucks supremely. I got one of those stomach viruses that's going around. One moment things are fine and within a half hour or so, nothing is fine! I sure do hope it's one of those 24 hour types..........I've got stuff to do before I start my next job Friday. I'll only have to be there for in-processing and then going to the power plant and get situated. Then I'll drive home for the weekend and then go back and live in a motel for several weeks while the job lasts. It's about a 160 mile drive for me, so I don't plan on going home on my one day off each week after the outage starts, especially since I'll be working night shift.

Geez Bob, sorry to hear that! Those stomach bugs can definitely make life miserable. My 19yr-old daughter got hit with that 3 days before she was supposed to go back to college. Thanks to a combination of PeptoBismol, ginger ale, and the BRAT diet [Bananas Rice Applesauce and Toast] she was back to normal the following day. Hopefully that's all you've got...

Thanks guys, yep I'm hoping for the shortest possible duration because.......well, because this is not fun. Talk about an understatement! The worst part of this is my wife is afraid that she'll get it and she's worried that her parents could get it. She's trying to get help lined up to cover what she would normally do for them tomorrow. Even if she doesn't get sick she can't take a chance on spreading it to them. They're both past their middle 80's so it would be very hard on them.

My wife has me trained well to use GermEx, wash my hands, don't touch your face with your hands, etc.......you know the drill. Well, it still managed to get me! I hope she doesn't fall victim as well.

Thanks, Tony. Bundled up in my sleeping bag right now.......kind of a half way attempt at quarantine. Right now I don't feel too bad but I know this is just a calm between storms! My wife says I've demonstrated enough of my bodily functions!!! :)

I've got faith in Tony, you'll pull through just fine!
