Good morning Everybody!

56 with cloudy skies in southeast Baltimore.

Has anyone heard from Bill?

Have a great day Everyone.

Evening All,

I was going to go to the local train museum meeting tonight but the weather says otherwise. We are getting our first thunder storm of the year. Today I did a couple of chores around the house then ran downtown to pick up 3 pieces of Atlas Code 83 flex track. I almost laughed when I found out it was $6.75 a stick. That is absolutely ridiculous. After I got home I installed it and hooked up power to it. I tested it with my GP7 and one of my K4s's I have. I wanted to make sure that there was no issues between the reverse loop and the main track powering. Happily there were no issues. I also painted the ties and track black inside the tunnel area and covered it all in tape to protect it.

Ken- Nice photo. Can you take one looking down on it?

Carey- I am glad your daughter is doing so well.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Evening. 61*F and cloudy with a 10mph SSE breeze here in central MD.

Thanks, y'all, for the kind words about my loco terminal photo.

OK Curt, here's a helicopter-mode view with all the weaknesses exposed. The main one being that I once had some scratchbuilt hose cranes on my fueling platform, and when I dismantled the old layout, I packed them away in a safe place. Unfortunately I can't remember where that safe place is.

The coaling tower is supposed to be mothballed, awaiting eventual demolition.

Done that many a time with stuff, can remember where you put it/them "temporarily", but the safe place is really safe. Only will be discovered when looking for something else totally unrelated and then you'll ask yourself "Why on #2%&* earth did I put them there."

Morning Gents. 65° and steady light rain going since around 0-hour. I haven't been up since then but got up several times during the night and it was raining every time. Weather Channel says high of 84 and cloudy all day. I don't see how they figure on 84 though.

Hopefully I can get a ride to the Walmart this morning and score a big bottle of white glue so I can start doing some ground cover. I have a good amount of dirt/sand mix ready to go. Of course I'll do a test-patch in a far away corner. Maybe I can find some spray paints to finish the sanding facility.

Question: I need some new brush cleaner. My little 10+ year old bottle of Testors brush cleaner is pretty well shot out.
What should I get? Paint thinner?

I'm thinking about paint thinner in case I score an air brush one day.
Maybe I can loosen up some of these older paints I still have?

Starting the day off at 51 degrees. Had to bug out unexpectedly yesterday to go over some details for out remodeling project. We are replacing all of the flooring in the house and am up in the air about what to do. With three dogs in the house I think we pretty well ruled out hardwood, but am looking at laminates. Trying to find a goog commercial quality laminate and have run across a vinyl laminate which has a lifetime warantee. but is a bit pricey.

Nice photo Ken. Excellent detailing.

Curt - looks like you project is moving forward well. Keep the photo updates coming.

My morning picture was taken a few years ago. This is the old Milwaukee Road right of way through Sixteen Mile Canyon. I can well remember riding through here when I was a kid numerous times. Ths is a beautiful area but hard to get to today.

Morning All,

Got some chores to do around the house before I start working on the layout today. Not much else planned for today.

Ken- Very nice work. I'm lucky to have some built in shelves next to the train room to store stuff.

BigE- When it comes to Elmers, Acrylic paint and a couple of other things I buy from a local Jo-Ann's. MOH gets coupons in the mail (you can sign up) and every month there are really good coupons to use like 40% off a single item and you can use multiple coupons at the same time on multiple items. I am sure the other same type chain stores offer the same thing.

Montanan- When we re-floored the house we decided on tile down stairs because of the animals and pool and put laminate upstairs (we installed that). My only complaint is when an animal walks on the laminate you can hear the nails clicking. Another benefit in tile is that in the summer it is cool to walk on in bare feet.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning folks.

It's suppose to be 72 and sunny today! I have the day off so I plan to find something to do outside just to be outside. I washed and waxed my car yesterday before work so that is off the to do list. I was going to do the same to my wife's truck today but my arms and legs hurt from moving my sister in law this past weekend, waxing my car yesterday, and moving furniture all day at work yesterday. I think I'll wander into the train room for a bit and then sit on the deck and watch the wildlife in my backyard while I ponder my past, present and future(while having a few beers)!

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning, we have 45 and headed for 66 today, also nice sun shining. Really dry up here, there have been grass fires all over the place. Yesterday one was attributed to the railroad.

Chet, whenever I see something with a "lifetime" guarantee, I ask "whose lifetime?". It reminds me of when they stopped having grease nipples on car steering tierod ends etc, with sealed ones that were "greased for the life of the bearing", what they really meant was they'd last as long as the smear of grease did.

Curt - We currently have laminate on out main level. The living room has a commercial grade laminate and it is still like new after over 15 years. Our kitchen and dining room were done a few years later, but we had the dish washer go haywire and leaked on the floor and the kitchen and dining room floor were replaced by the insurance company. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the same quality lamanate and the laminate they used was not good. Figure it's time for a makeover. The wife is getting her new appliances and counter tops, so why not do all of the flooring too at the same time.

We'r eused to hearing the dogs walk around. With small dogs it is a bit of an advantage because you know they're on the move and you don't end up kicking them acroos a room by accident. With our winter weather and with what's dragged into the house on your feet, we'll put tile in the entry area and the better quality laminate will work out fine. Hardwoods are nice, but we don't live in a McMansion and we're not trying to impress anyone.

No joy at Wally-world. I seriously need to get to the HobbyTown down in Kennesaw.
I may bite the bullet and walk up the local RiteAid and see what kind of white glue I can get there just to try it out.
This is driving me crazy. I really am kind of at a stand-still without materials.

The glue for the ground cover? I used some real cheap stuff but the Elmers brand was more consistant and mixed well with water. You know, you can use brown or green paint, too, put it on thick, and sprinkly your soil onto that.

Afternoon All,

This morning I washed Raine's sleeping blankets that are normally under our bed. When I walked into the train room to do some work I noticed he decided to sleep on my bag that I use to carry trains. He was doing one of his two favorite activities...sleeping, the other is eating. Before everyone asks...yes he is descented and has absolutely no smell.

Yes, I know about the paint trick as well but don't have any of that either.
I just came back from the RiteAid with some store brand white-glue. We'll see how well it mixes.
If not, it was only a couple bucks anyhow. At least I have something to try. I hate just sitting around.

Frist ground cover attempt. Being that the glue was watered down I don't reckon it'll take too long to dry. (I didn't add any alcohol to it.) But there is high humidity right now. The little bit of glue-mix I made covered lots more than I thought - and I was quite liberal with it. I'll let it dry for a couple before I run the dustbuster over it.
I'm thinking it's a little dark. I have some beach sand I can add to lighten it up. What do you guys think?
I applied the dirt using a technique that came to me within about a minute. Have you all seen a documentary of monks (usually Tibetan or Indian) that make pictures using painted sand? That's exactly what I did. I got a scoop of dirt in a soup spoon and lightly tapped the edge with a small stick. For tiny or tight areas I pointed the spoon tip down and tapped super lightly. For big open areas I tipped the spoon from the side with a little heavier taps. All that I did probably took less than an hour.

Feedback is not only welcomed, but desired. This is my first try ever doing this completely from scratch.
The section(s) I did is about where I'm thinking my mountain will go so there is no harm if it completely sucks.

We had a friend who had a descented chocolate skunk for a pet. It was quite the character.

Me and the ex had a ferret. That thing loved to chase down and attack practice golf balls. During the winters month I often had on a turtle-neck with a pullover sweater over that. I would stuff her down between them and she would curl up and go to sleep. Lord knows how many times she went to the store and/or the bar with me and never stirred a bit. Some friends at the bar knew we had her and would how she's doing. I would just say "pat my belly". Too fun!!

My buddy up in the NC mountains had a flying-squirrel (abandoned baby and bottle raised) that was an absolute blast to play with. You'd better wear long pants all the time around him. He's going to climb you leg and could care less if it was bare skin or Levis he was clawing into.

I miss the both.
E.
