First vacuum would indicate I need more glue than water on the next batch. Granted I didn't measure it when mixing but I thought I was leaning a little heavier on the glue side when I saw how thin the 50/50 mix made it.
I'll chalk up this first go to a learning experience. Suits me fine. Experience is by far the best teacher.
This is store-branded white glue so it's probably already just watered down name brand (probably Elmer's) anyhow.

Still waiting on some feedback.....

I would usually wait a day to let it dry. Sometimes it helps to eyedropper more water on, maybe enough to saturate it, then use your technique to sprinkle more soil on top. Then wait another day. Between the dirt and other ground cover materials you may be using don't worry if it takes you several days and many applications before you are satisfied.

Really? A whole day for plain old white glue and dirt. Ok.
What do you think of the color? Too dark? This mix really is just plain backyard dirt with a little sand to lighten it up.
I'm thinking it's too dark right now.
There are no other ground covers right now.
I'm still flying by the seat of my pants on this thing.

The color will lighten as it dries.

Later you may want to add some "fine turf" product which is cheap and goes a long way, to make something that looks like grass. Woodland Scenics makes it. You can dropper more glue on and sprinkle it on the same way you did the dirt, adds texture and color looks like grass that has been grazed by sheep.

I have been over this section of scenery several times, started with the dirt only. A couple months later added more dirt and watered glue. The base is sheet rock compound.

Later yet I added the fine turf and a few clumps of some other bushy stuff, can't remember what it was called. Then added something with green and yellow looks kind of like dandilions. Now I kind of like the way it looks, took a few months, though:

Plastic scouring pad all shredded up. I've hear'ed tell hair-spray will keep it in place.

Not exactly, maybe if you put it in a blender? As far as hair spray, probably won't stand the vacuum test, either. Water and glue works for me.

Evening All,

Plastered below the upper tracks today. Most likely I will paint it tomorrow, then I am will start on the tunnel section.

BigE- There's probably a hundred ways of doing landscaping and one is not better than another. Experiment to find what you like. I use the same glue for ballast and scenery (2 cups Elmers, 1 cup water, and 1 cup ISO). I use a plastic storage container that holds a double recipe for storage. If the glue mix sits for a long time simply stir it up again. If I am doing landscaping I put down a thin layer 100% Elmers first, then sprinkle by hand the ground cover (I like the Scenery Express mixes)(hand sprinkling reduces waste also), then spray the ground cover with ISO then put down the glue mixture with a eye dropper. I let the finished area set for 24 hours to set hard. To remove, spray with ISO let sit a bit then scrape it up with a small paint scraper.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening everybody!

56 with light rain in southeast Baltimore.

I hope everyone is doing good and I hope Bill is ok.

Time to lay in bed and fall asleep watching baseball, thank God they replay the games in wee hours of the morning because I won't make it 10 minutes before falling asleep.

Good night everyone!

Good morning. I see Louis already provided a weather report for our area.

Curt, your "earthmoving" is really starting to take shape. Sure wish I had the real estate to do something like that, but with all my lineside industry spurs its not an option for me.

Yesterday I took a break from "physical" layout work and decided to use my JMRI PanelPro software to create some manifests and switch lists for my next op session. The first few hours were frustrating; I got all my locos and rolling stock positioned to generate my first train, clicked the Build button, the status block said "Building..." - and that's where it stayed indefinitely. Not even so much as an error report. This was my first time trying to build a train on my new laptop, so starting from there, I was eventually able to figure out that it was a permissions problem with the JMRI folders I had migrated from my old 'puter. Once I fixed that, everything worked like a charm.

32 degrees with around 4 inches of white crap on the ground. Was 67 yesterday afternoon.

Computers are fun Ken. Ya just gotta hold your mouth right.

Good morning, we have 41 degrees and sunny. Going to be another really nice day here, up into the 60's. The frogs are chirping in the wetlands, and grass is greening up.

Sorry to hear about the snow, Chet, I am sure it will be gone by afternoon.

Good morning.

Busy .... Finally finished the last of all of hte income taxes I was doing for people. I don't like income taxes. ..... Now, I hope to have more model railroad road time. ...... But wait ! What am I hearing from the next room? Honey do !

Last evening we went to the local Rotary Club auction which is every evening this week. They raise money for education with this auction each year. So we bid on stuff we don't really need as well as stuff we actually could use.

One item up for bids was a squirrel skinner. We did not bid on that.

I had not heard from one of my model train friends for a while and was wondering why. I finally heard back from him and learned he broke his neck in a collision in early March. Now he is recovering and expects to be okay.

Happy Model Railroading.

You guys are upsetting me with all the talk of rain and snow!
We could use a little of it around here!
