Good Morning.

It's quite raw this morning, 42°, overcast, with a strong wind from the east. :( The forecast calls for rain later. :(:(.

Not much going on today.

Have a good day, y'all.

Garry- Its been in my closet for eleven years. I found the invoice- I bought it in 2002. I doubt it has more than two hours on it.
I can make out six of the RR's but the last one looks like a fancy letter S inside a letter C .
Phil.

Have to get ready to see oncologist for checkup.

Phil, I think that is the Colorado & Southern.

Have to make a few stops so I will say good afternoon and leave you with a picture of an eastbound Montana Rail Link train coming into Big Timber, Montana with the Crazy Mountains in the background.

TERRY- You're right. I Wikied CS RR and it was taken over by CB&Q years ago. Thanks for the input.

Dr. visit went well. Final blood results will be known tomorrow.

A little of today's activity:

I put a coat of black on the yard tower roof and this is mighty good pic of it all trimmed out [with paint pens] and lit up.
I'm liking the way it turned out. I'm debating whether to some of the trim paint on the stair railings.

I cut up the base for the fueling facility today finally. Figured I might as well go ahead and put it when it's going to go. I trimmed out the shack with a paint pen as well. Nothing is glued to the center isle yet. I have enough road bed left over to raise up the platforms track level either.
But here it is anyway.

Wish my lighting stuff I ordered would come in.

Evening All,

Made my trip to WPB without incident and luckily traffic was light both ways and I was home by lunch time. Today I glued down the cork roadbed almost to the end of the risers. I will wait to do that until I have the bridge to do some height measurements. I found 2 full pieces of flex track today in the train room so tomorrow I will install them and that will complete the reverse loop part of the project.

Sunday we are going to our daughters house to help paint her kitchen.

BigE- Very nice modeling. I like the stairs in plain wood.

Phil- I'm glad your appointment went well.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon Gandy Dancers,
Was a bit of a cool night and the day didn't really warm up too awful much.

I just received word that I have a 24 x 36 Railroad Map produced by National Geographic available to offer customers which I listed in the For Sale section.

I did a bit of running on my layout last night, mainly operating my original MDC 2 truck shay which was feeling neglected for not being run in quite a while and it ran fairly well and quite slow too for being a loco I built about 20 plus years ago.

I need to get busy and extend the upper section track work more and build one more #5 turnout which will allow the Five Oaks station area on the lower main line to be connected to the lower main so it can start getting delivery of freight and passengers. Then the upper section behind and above it just about ready for uprights to be positioned and track to be extended which will give me another passing siding as well as another turnout to be placed going to a second mine if spacing allows? It's one of those cases where it's easy to visualize how it will fit in on paper but another story when realestate is being consumed. Oh, well, if not there one of the back corners I suppose?

Say Eric, The switch tower look very good, what did you use for the windows? It looks like you frosted some of them which makes for a interesting effect. I think I have an old Revell tower that is similar but possibly to new for my time period and the size of operation I have. But maybe I can make use of it? That kit goes back into the '60's I think.

Thanks Curt.
I was only talking about doing the stair railing in trim. Not all of it.

Oh... and dam me and leaving out words.

I do NOT have enough roadbed left to do the fueling platform raising.

Say Chet, It looks like a fairly steep grade that single/double loco is pulling all those cars up or is it just the angle it was shot at?

terry just wanted to say thanks my son is thrilled
That the spring for the 611showed up & its running on his layout
HE WANTS TO THSNK YOU

The picture was taken with a telephoto lens. If you look, the train has come around a curve. Once east of Livingston, MT and Bozeman Pass, the main line pretty well runs at river level along side the Yellowstone River all of the way to Laurel, MT. The telephoto lens really makes the mountains look larger.

Greetings. 42*F, cloudy and windy here in central MD.

Chet - excellent shot of that MRL train, did you shoot it? It looks good enough to be published on railpictures.net! Interesting thing about the name though, I only see one little tree in the entire scene...did it all get harvested out?

Eric - that fueling station is coming along quite nicely! I've got a bunch of 1/8-inch thick sheet cork leftover on a 4ft-wide roll, I can send you some if you want. The interlocking tower is looking good too. Is the interior bulb/LED in the top or bottom? It will look perfect if you can position the light near the top and put a piece of opaque sheet between the first and second floor. The first floors of those structures were typically used for storage and switch machinery, rarely ever occupied - always dark whenever I saw them. [LATER EDIT:] Actually, putting some black electrical tape behind the first floor windows will achieve the same result with a lot less work, wish I'd have thought of that earlier!

David - I know the feeling of satisfaction I get when I run my 25yr-old Front Range GP9's, as you did with your Shay. The old geeps looked pretty but didn't run worth a damn when I first got 'em - but once I installed NCE decoders in them they ran much better.

Curt - that flex track is like gold now, isn't it! I bought a case of 100 pieces in 2010 when I was upgrading my layout, now I have maybe a half-dozen sections left in the box. I'm sure glad I got the stuff before the prices skyrocketed.

Garry and those of you in the Midwest, stay safe in those severe storms!

Today was not a fun day for me. It started with a toothache, and ended with a three-way root canal. All the novocaine wore off a few hours ago but the 800mg ibuprofen is doing a pretty good job of holding back the pain. Still feeling pretty exhausted from the ordeal though...

I have been lucky enough to have had a few photos get onto railpictures. Photography is another hobby besides trains. The telephoto lens does create somewhat of an optical illusion. The mountains are probably 15 miles or so in the distance. The area the train was in is a combination of wheat fields, open range and sagebrush. I-90 also runs alongside the Yellowstone River, criss crossing the tracks from Billings to Livingston. A lot of nothing out here.

Hiya gang!

Glad to see lots of modeling projects moving along in the group, Big E,,Nice tower! Curt, your grade is coming along nicely!

Ken, I feel your pain, woke up with a stomach bug that had me driving the porcelain bus this morning. :p It has since past, may your discomfort also pass!

Flip ,keeping my fingers crossed for good news on the blood test!

Where's Bill T.? playing hookey?

Going to be at the Brass Expo, inside the GSMTS show this weekend. Working for peanuts, but having great fun! Speaking of brass, just finished this for a customer. Real glass in the windows. Learned lots of new words doing it!

I was thinking I should "dim" out the windows somehow other than turning down the voltage. It's at 5vdc.
Perhaps a little dullcote clear from the inside?
