Really? That dark yellow goopy stuff is?
Is it too early for a beer?
The gorilla that I buy dries clear. They make several different kinds. As far as the beer goes, never too early.
Gary P: Congratulations! It's nice to see someone else in the playoffs. Good luck!
Thanks Boris. It is nice to have a few Canadian teams in this year.
Maybe the Jets and Caps will meet in the final!

Now, that would be a great series. When you consider all the perennials that didn't make it this year (NJ, Philly, LA, San Jose, and possibly either Pittsburgh or Boston), this is a memorable season. Who, back in October, would have thought this would happen?

Here's the stuff I have. It dries something like an opaque light yellow.

The one I get, the bottle is similar, but it says on it "dries clear". The cap is blue and is longer and comes to a point.

That's the expanding foam type. It works best if you moisten whatever you put it on.

OH yeah! You right! I forgot all about that. Seems to be ok for what I'm doing with it right now.
The stuff LASM has would probably be more appropriate I suppose.

Doesn't seem like a lot of guys use this hardware store glue. There are lots of hobby shop brands, they could be nearly the same, but they cost more.
Afternoon All,
Got the shredding done-only 5 garbage bags. All the large shredding jobs are now done at the house. I painted the tunnel area black (to help make it dark) and I painted the back drop brown. Tomorrow I am going to the train show around 10 AM and I expect to see Phil there.
BigE- I have tried several times on 2 different computers and I have not been able to get JMRI to run right. I wish you luck.
Gary P- Congrats on your team win. I am friends with a guy from Calgary so he is not happy.
I hope everyone has a good night.
Chet,
I got my yard lamp posts today. What sort of base would you, or anyone, suggest?
And what's up with the resistors they included. No instructions of course. No matter. If there was, they would be written in some Chinese dialect.

For a base I drilled a hole (in my plywood) so the bottom part fit through but the wide part of the collar did not, put a drop of glue in there, and stuck the base in.
I don't know about the resistor. The ones I got from China must not have been LED because worked regardless of polarity and I did not use a resistor and they work. Mine didn't have instructions either.

I haven't put power to them yet so I don't really know for sure what they are. I'll put one on 0 volts and crank it up to see. If it lights, I'll switch polarity and see what happens. If it lights both ways, it isn't LED. Of course a simple ohmmeter test should ferret that right out.
Let you know what happens.

Here is one of them. It's not easy soldering to a single strand of "angel hair". White is ground and black goes to positive. A little backwards for me but there we are. Without one of the resistors it didn't want much voltage at all before appearing to stress out. Maybe 3 v. With a resistor in line at the same voltage with the rest, it's ok. That's around 9v. The resistor is 620 ohm.
Here is one all wired up and lit.
They'll work just fine. I am going to make some sort of base for them. I don't like the idea of gluing right to the table top.
If there is some sort of sticky goo that acts like glue that isn't permanent, I'm all game.
Surely, they make something like that.
Ideas anyone?

BigE- I have similar lights from China. What I did was drill the hole through the train board then put just a small dab of bathroom caulk (clear) in the hole and set the light in the caulk. If you spray ISO on the caulk you can remove it. I use the caulk in tubes that don't use the gun. On my signals I cut a thin piece of styrene (for sale sign) in a square shape and cut a groove in one side that the wiring (4 wires) can be slid into then put the dab of caulk to hold the signal upright. Hope this helps.

ISO? Probably something I'm already very well aware of... but what is that?
Tube caulk.. nice idead.. yes that helps.
I think I get what you are saying about a little square of styrene. Got a pic?
I'm pretty sure I got the idea and yes that helps as well.
I don't have any signals - YET.
CJ will be here tomorrow so I'll ask him if what I'm thinking you meaning is right.
Speaking of him, he called this afternoon and I was afraid he was going to cancel. Au contraire! He asked could he bring a friend. "Sure bring him over!". He says: "now, he's an N-gager is that alright?" Too funny!!!

An N scaler? Well, nobody's perfect.
Good evening. 57*F with a slight NW breeze. Looks like my area dodged the "bullet" of severe T-storms the weatherguessers were predicting.
Eric - if the friend Carey is planning to bring is who I think he is, you'll be in good company! BTW: ISO=Isopropyl Alcohol, in 70% or 91% concentrations. Perfect for softening dried Elmers.

With a little help from my son, I'm hoping to get my trainroom de-cluttered tomorrow so I can once again work on the layout. I'll try to snap some pix and post them as I go along.
BigE,
I don't have a before scenery picture, but I drew it out for you.
After the light or signal is glued down and light is tested OK, I put another small piece of styrene over the open styrene wire slot, paint it and put ground cover over it and it disappears.

Well, he didn't mention any names so I have no clue. IF the friend hangs out here, then it's likely he already knows who I am. If not, I'm sure Carey has told all about me. I'll find out tomorrow either way.
ISOpropyl alcohol - duh.. another one I should have known. I thought that might be what it was but had zero idea it would soften dried white glue. That'll be about the 4th thing I've learned today.

Well done Curt. That's exactly what I thought you had in mind. Had I known those light posts would have come in today I probably could have gotten a "for sale" at the grocery store this morning.
I would like to finish off the ground work around my fueling station and put down ground cover over the yard area before I decide where to put these lights. Patience and forethought is something that seems to only come with age, experience and wisdom. 40 years ago this would not have been possible for me. That's ok. I'm producing a much better result these days.
