Eric .. some of the legs are 2x2, and some are particle board cut to 1x2's that are fastened together to be 2x2's.

Glad to see you're doing OK Sherrel. I'm quite nervous about my possible reconstruction surgery.
They first want to deal with that spot on my last PET though - I understand that.

The ENT surgeon I met with a couple weeks basically said I was in for a helluva ride on surgery.
And that I should expect a full 8 hours on the first one.
That's not what worries me. It's what I feel like afterwards. I had such a rough time with comparatively simple things I just don't know.
E.
Eric, you can do it. Remember, the downward slide is over, and now you're starting on the rode back.

Good Morning All. 71° with clear skies. Should be warmer today than yesterday, 92° vs 88°. A short shower around noon kept things cooler. After Mass yesterday, my wife and I joined another couple for a German lunch in the nearby German community of Muenster TX. Great German food and beer (bier). Due to the antiquated liquor laws in Texas, one isn't supposed to be able to buy beer before noon on Sundays. However that doesn't stop restaurants from serving it and not ringing it up until after noon, especially in a German Catholic community like Muenster! Later in the afternoon the grass dried out and I resumed mowing. I don't normally have to mow much after July 1, but this has been a wet year (the last two have been!), so grass/weeds grow profusely. Especially after the "gully-washer" that we received last Wednesday. On the bright side, the Bermuda grass has finally filled in where it died during the preceding drought years of 2012-2014.
Today I have a teeth-cleaning appointment in early afternoon, which puts a necessary disruption on other activities. Well, I do need them to eat and I just paid 45K to have them fixed (10 crowns)/replaced (8 implants).
Only had time to run a couple of trains yesterday, given all of the other activities.

Garry - My ghost is probably a "she"! LOL Agree on health care premiums.
Sherrel - Upright and walking is very good. Pace yourself and congratulations to you and the medical team. And your long-suffering wife who has to put up with you.
Eric - Think positively about the reconstructive surgery. Yes it will be a bitch to endure, but the end result will be worth it. You should last another 30-40 years, even without the extended warranty! ;)
Ken (D&J) - Hopefully you can find the time to copy the photos and post them directly to the forum. That "documentary" regarding the bridge has been really fascinating.

Photobucket - It is truly sad what Photobucket did to our fellow forum modelers and to hobbyists and others all over the globe. The disruption to topics such as Ken's bridge build and many many others is truly "ransomware" to the fullest legal extent. Fortunately for me, I never trusted any of those sites (or the "cloud" either), and keep my information on an external drive. While I am hopeful that PB sees the havoc that they have caused and reverses their policy, I am not optimistic. I do hope that they "reap what they sow" and that this comes back to haunt them. I do not usually wish ill-will on anyone, but this is a different situation.
Off soapbox...
Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning everyone. 72 here in SW MO, hitting 93 later today. Sunny and 90's until Friday.

Garry - thanks for the info on your backdrops
Terry - with everyone else, prayers for your niece.

Doughnuts - we have KK, DD, Hurts (anyone out there have one of them in your town?), St. George's (local, I believe), and some other local ones. I have to be careful because of "diabetic tendencies" - but I do treat myself once in a great while.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning. We're starting off the day at 60 degrees with a high expected in the mid 80's for a change. Did use the air conditioner last night.

Sherrel - Hope that you are on your way home today. Really happy that things went well for you. Waiting to hear from you.

Eric - Willie made a great suggestion about moving the front legs in a bit so you aren't stubbing your toes on the front legs. Most of my layout is along the wall so there are no legs, but i ine peninsula the legs were moved in just for that reason. I know that the surgery won't be an easy thing for you after what you have gone through, but you'll be so much better off after it is over.

Beady - I was wondering what had happened to you. You've been MIA.

Curt - Looks like an interesting project. Your layout was really looking good, but with all of the updates, it will be that much better. Sort of what I have on my plate if I ever get off my butt and get going.

It was hot yesterday and I did hide out in the train room and ran trains. No building projects, just running trains and doing a lot of switching. Here are a few photos.

I had a passenger train running on the main line while I was picking up a gondola from the scrap yard and dropping it off in the yard to be taken off to a customer. Here the S-4 is pulling the load of scrap out of the siding as the passenger train passes.

IMAG1180.jpg

The next photo is the switcher entering the yard as an outbound train waits for clearance to leave the yard.

IMAG1181.jpg

The last one is the switcher moving the gon to spot it in the yard as the outbound gets started out of the yard.

Not many train photos lately so I figured that I would post a few.

Later.

Made an impulse buy at the local hobbyshop on Saturday...spent 30 minutes changeing out the couplers and doing some very quick weathering with some PanPastels.

Johnny .... You are welcome.

Chet ... Wow ! Those are three nice photos. Switching activity is fun.

Gene .... That is a very nice impulse buy.

Well, there's been a lot of folks here with medical problems and I was reluctant to add to it. My MIL went into the hospital on Wednesday and we were the only relatives within range. Spent then to now commuting daily between Lansing and Pontiac, ~70 miles each way. She's being discharged to rehab later today; all in all, her case is a lot like my mother's was, a couple of months ago. Anyway, my brother-in-law is here now (he lives near Pontiac), so reinforcements have arrived.

I *should* be free to pick up my Athearn Bigboy tomorrow. Luckily, I just sold one of my shotguns so don't have to use plastic.

I've been puzzled by this. Most of you seem to eschew (I love that word!) magnetic uncouplers, and use swizzle sticks or whatever to manually uncouple. I have this vision of someone moving a train into place, walking or reaching over to uncouple, going back to the controls to move the engine to another position, walking back to manually in couple a couple of more cars, then back to the controls, then...

This is fun?

I do use Kadee magnets for uncoupling. If you manage to figure the right location, it can make switching quite easy. A number of the industries on my layout can be quite a long reach and using a something to manually uncouple cars could be a problem. I do make sure that all of my couplers are operating correctly and have no problems. I also use a walk around throttle. The only thing I have to do is to throw the turnouts when necessary. My six year old grandson has figured out how to use the uncoupling magnets and is pretty darn good at it and enjoys it a lot.

While most of my uncoupling is manual by using a Rix uncoupling tool, I use some magnetic uncouplers in hard to reach places along backdrops and behind structures. Like Chet, I also use a walk around DC throttle, so I am always at the right location anyway. I have never seemed to get the hang of a skewer, although I still attempt to use one occasionally (semi-successfully) when I cannot locate my Rix uncoupler! I frustratingly use the HOG (Hand Of God) method when needed.

Afternoon All,

Very hot and humid again today. Today I installed the windows and doors and put the walls together. Tomorrow I plan on putting on the trim and sub-roof. At that point I'm stopped until the shingles show up. I don't want to do the stairs until the roof is done. I really dislike the way the windows and doors are put together and applied.

Chet- Great photos and modeling.

Gene- Nice acquisition and weathering.

Garry- Who doesn't like a Pennsy photograph?

Sherrel- Great news. I'm sure it will feel good to be home.

Not sure why it loaded side wise. It's the proper orientation on my desktop.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Beady - You sure were put into a lousy situation, but you prevailed until the help appeared. Been there, done that. We have to help family and friends.

Curt - The tower is coming along nicely, but the guy inside looks like he's playing with himself. Grin.gif

Time to get out of here and head home to move hoses and get the rain birds working.

Later

Good evening. It's mostly sunny and 94.
My niece is still waiting on her insurance company. She was supposed to see a cardiologist today, but everybody is on hold.
