"Thank you for calling usps. Your call is very important to us. Please remain on the line, and your call will be answered in the order it was received. Current wait time: more than one hour. Thank you for calling".

Hi guys, small update.

Got threatened by one of the coworkers this morning, only 2 hours into my shift, said I needed to "Get the F _ _ _ out of here or I will beat the crap out of you"

I guess I didn't really need the job that bad.

I did get a couple of more photos however,

Here is a close up of the unload end of the machine, it took it about 10 minutes to unload a semi:

This is our work area, the asphalt area below:

This is an adjacent area. On this spur it was dry mix for concrete:

Check out the "end of track mechanism". This would very easy to model:

The earlier photo attached shows them unloading a hopper trailer into the transload machine.

While working in the oil field, it was a different type of trailer used that would unload itself using the truck power to air pressure force the sand out of the trailer and into the well site storage unit.

Here, grain type hopper trailers gravity dump the load and the sand company leases the belted "transload" machine to fill the rail covered hoppers.

Dave: Minor Technicality. Almost anything even remotely connected to the railroad is 12 hours +.

Sort of reminds me of some rules and regs from way back when: A pilot can be scheduled up to and including 12 hours; rescheduled up to 14 hours, and shall not normally remain on duty for more than 16 hours.

Good luck with the new job, DAVE!

David I am sorry to hear about what happened.

Boris we had to work 12 hour shifts when I was a coal sampler, I loved it!

Sherrel how are you feeling?

Terry in baseball we say ""if you play long enough luck evens itself out" If that is true in life you need to buy lottery tickets because when your luck changes it's going to pay off big!

Here is something of a lighter note.

2017 LCCA (Lionel Collectors Club of America) 2017 Christmas Boxcar. It's the only reason I am in the club. If you count the annual dues this thing costs me nearly $150! They do offer other things in the store, but seldom is anything cheap.

Afternoon All,

It's trying to decide to rain here. Today I put the trim on the tower, Attached the stair braces, upper platform, and 3 stair risers. I also built the sub roof. I decided to go ahead with the stairs since the roof is designed to be removed. The shingles should be in on Thursday. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the stairs.

Dave- Ouch on those hours!. I hope everything works out at your new job.

Willie- Nice job on the building and box car.

Beady- Prayers for your MIL.

Louis- Nice looking car.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Finally got my Athearn Bigboy. This is a very brief video of her on the test track at the LHS. I think the owner said the curve radius was 12-3/4"; minimum is 11" and 15" is recommended. Doesn't look too bad.

I got the coal tender, rather than oil (actually, I don't remember specifying - Not that I care). It comes with an extra piece; without that piece, the top of the tender looks like rivetted metal, with it the top looks like wood plank.

Looking good Beady. I'm suprised that it can navigate what seems to be a rather tight curve. Enjoy.

I don't know what I did to invoke such a hostile response, I feel like I woke up from a nightmare. I am truly a mild mannered person.

I had no choice but to leave the site, the supervisor was 20 something and possibly less mature than the coworker

When I contacted the plant foreman he doubted my account. I tendered my resignation, and we can chock it up to experience.

I am 59 years old and this is the worst job place experience of my life, makes Halliburton look like love boat!

Dave B .... Your friends care about you. We are sorry to hear about this situation.

.....

Eric ... Recently, you talked about painting stripes on your diner. I am posting this photo of a real diner so you can see stripes are not needed .

Dave, if you happened to have more experience than that guy did, he probably saw you as a threat to his position, hence the hostility. I had a not anywhere as severe thing occur when I got a job on an office fitout crew and the site leading hand took a dislike to me when I offered what I thought was just a helpful observation on levelling the divider walls adjustable feet (he was screwing them all the way in, not leaving any adjustment available for bumps in the floor). I had absolutely no interest in his job, the small pay increases I long ago realised, don't make up for the crap you put up with from both sides.

That style of diner seems to be something of an American icon, built to look like an ex railroad coach or streetcar, regardless of it not being one.

Most states consider that a "terroristic threat" - especially since it was done in person. That makes it a felony.

Unfortunately proving it is the thing, getting witnesses (if there were any) is another. They usually make sure there aren't. (had that too in one dispute)

Dave B ... actually it appears the company violated the age discrimination act of 1967. You could file a claim.

I think I'm planning to have 2 parallel main lines on the outer circuit.
One end of the will have 3rd line.
My question what kind of spacing is typical in HO scale?
I do have a boatload of intermodal cars (some might be 100') along with long passenger cars 80'.
Of course I don't want them knock each other all over the place when they meet in the corners.
My inner circuit (what I have laid down on the floor) is using 18" R curves right now.
TIA

The decking. I'm tossing up between MDF, plywood and luan.
Right now I'm kind of leaning towards the luan. No one in this town carries MDF.
I'll be heading the HD store at the neighboring town when I go to buy the majority of materials anyhow.

Anyone car to share thoughts on luan vs. plywood?

What is luan?
