Hi, all. Rain today.

I also use a Cube for videos. Best $100 I've spent for train stuff in a while!

I use KD couplers and Intermountain wheelsets. Nothing else. I have rebuilt a lot of Tyco, Life Like, Bachman etc cars. I cut off the talgo truck mounted couplers, then body mount KD's. Some needed over or under set couplers or a # 5 with a styrene shim added to the coupler box. Since my layout is ops-based ,I don't worry much about highly detailed rolling stock. It's a quick and cheap way to add cars. Once they get a little weathering they'll look fine.

Started playing around with the long-planned valance build. I'd like to get a shadow box look.
Here's whats up so far:

Here's me, scanning intently the pics to spot the box car or whatever for the beer sign and thinking "E's got b****y good eyes" or (he's got a real problem), eventually spotted the can.

I spotted that can on my 2nd detail look at things.
My first scan was all about his awesome scenery and mountain and bridge work - which he hasn't shared until now.
I don't know what "b****y" eyes are so I can't claim nor deny that skill. :-)

You must be doin' alright, you didn't miss count the number of *'s.

Good evening. Another trip to PA on tap for tomorrow. Seems that one week to the day after my MIL's insurance determined she's had enough rehab, the place where she is at, decides she can't stay, while she has quite a way to go before she is eligible for medicare, her resources are not sufficiently adequate.. Since we feel they didn't make any effort to rehabilitate her, we are going to retain an attorney. We have a meeting on Friday. They want to send her home, although her house is not ADA compliant, and she cannot walk. Such caring people.. Going to attempt to find her a place in NJ, closer to where we live, so we can drop in on her more frequently. It's been almost 18 years since my FIL passed, but he remains the account holder on numerous accounts. Had to order a half dozen death certificates, to correct the title before my wife can gain access.

Terry (WI): I really like the effect created with the valance.
Chet: Your farm details are awesome. Like the old n scale photos too. One thing about N, you can run long trains long distances.
Curt: Figures. if the cheap previously owned one works ok, and looks ok, you can tell the smug retailers to stick their overpriced new washers where the sun don't shine.
Terry in NC: Roger on the tired. I've been beat for the last several days, and still have things to do

Up late here.

Curt ... The farm is Chet's I agree it looks nice.

Chet ... The kit for the road grader can be assembled with the blade down or up. I chose up.

Terry in Wisconsin. You do very good work.

Good night everybody.

Good Morning All. It's 41 degrees and clear here in north central TX this morning, going up to the upper 70's today. Expect some rain Saturday and Sunday. It figures as we are driving to Dallas for my granddaughter's first birthday party tomorrow. My daughter invited over 100 people! So far 57 have RSVP'd. My wife is baking a cake and then some...actually multiple cakes for that many people. She volunteered to make the cake before she knew how many were invited. She found out Tuesday!
I got on the roof yesterday to do my annual chimney sweep for my wood-burning stove, and to install the new rain-cap on the chimney. Getting on the roof has never been fun, even less so as I age. I might have to finally break down and buy a heat-pump for the house. Cutting and hauling wood, while good exercise is getting boring after 35 years. I heat with nothing but wood.

Chet - The farm looks good.
Terry - Do you have any dust problems with that ceiling? I agree with others that the scenes look good. Can you come to TX and make some trees for me?

A parting picture from the "plywood central".

It's a shame because there are 20 figures inside but you can only see a few of them even when the interior light is on. I may re-orient it or move it.

LOL! Got four "wow's" out of the latest person to see the layout, he had seen the 'before time' when it was storage shelving and boxes stacked to the ceiling! He would take two steps, stop and say wow, and repeat! Shoot! As you all well know this is 'nothin' compared to what's out there, let alone what it WILL be after/while, after/while, after a little bitty while! The 'fundamental transformation' (LOL) has been pretty amazing.

Good morning. 26 degrees to start off the day. Temps in the 50's are going to be history for a while around here.

Big E - Figured you would find the Oly can. I really didn't notice it until I posted the photos. Those photo of the old N scale layout are just in one corner of the old layout. If I happen across more I will post them. Didn't share them unitl not because I just found them. I still have quite a few boxes of items I haven't gone through that were found during remodeling. When I started that layout I didn't have a plan. The mountains were interesting.

No plan, just tracks running everywhere. Like it was mentioned, you have a lot more space to run long trains, but unfortunately the lousy locomotives of the time was the reason the layout was torn down. The layout also had about 7 towns and a port area. At first I thought the track work was the problem with bad quality locomotives, but a few locomotives (very few) would just purr around the layout and others were, well, just garbage. I am a lot happier with HO scale although I don't have the long main line run that I had in N scale. Should post the N scale photos elseware on the forum.

Terry - Like the valance. Thought about one for my layout but with the drop ceiling, not going to happen.

Garry - Got the same grader. Blade up on mine also. That's the way some grader operators do the road around here.

Willie - Like the Ale House. You should put it up front so the patrons can bee seen. Like it.

Picture for the morning. Wanna buy a Chevy ??? Vehicles are one of the easiest ways to set the time period of a layout.

Well Chet, how do you set the time period prior to 1902?

Go check your POB. It's suppose to be in the "Postal locker".
Next time I send you something I'll be sure to address it to "PO Locker ....".
E.

I just can't settle on one narrow time period and I already have a wide selection of stock and buildings, I'll have to say my 'time period' runs from about 6 Billion B.C. to the 'present day'! Now I can 'legitimately' run anything! I like the part of this hobby where we 'make up the rules as we go'.

Eric - I had no time period set on the old N scale layout. The choice of locomotives back then was not the best, and the available road names was worse. I didn't want to do Santa Fe, but SF was one of the few road names available back then. I did start painting some yellow as you can see on the left side of the photo but they were not among the better running locos. N scale was not like it is today back then. If I would have had the choices that are available today, who knows, I could still be in N scale.

For my HO layout I wanted to model the transition era as that was the time that that I started riding with my relatives on the Milwaukee Road and the NP. Steam was on the way out by then, but a few were still around. I also like the first generation diesels. I also was very familiar with what industries are in the area I model or could have been my back yard.

Followed the plan started around 30 years ago and stuck with it. It works for me very well. Needless to say, I really can't have modern locomotives and equipment on the layout, but that's fine with me. I think I have captured what was or could have been going on during that period of time.

6B B.C.? Cool! What do you model 2 billion years older than the Earth itself?

I didn't know you had buildings and stuff. Hell Man. Just set them out here and there and that alone will break up the monotony and provide a little scenery.
