Running Bear's Coffee Shop LIX

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Garry - Nice photo. It really doesn't take a lot of work to upgrade older, cheap freight cars, or even locomotives. I have a few that I have also upgraded and they fit right into the layout.

Nice work.

I finally was able to upload one of the pictures into Photobucket. The Upload button at he top of the scheme sent me into a frustrating loop repeatedly asking me to log in. .... Later I got into my library and found an upload button in one of the spaces for photos in the file. I clicked on that. Uploading was very slow.
These posts about photobucket have me confused. I have an account with them, but there's only one forum I use it for (the Single Action Shooting Society - my summer hobby). Everything else, including here, I upload directly from my phone, tablet or computer, even from the cloud. Are there some providers that require you to use a hosting service all the time?

I believe the Model Railroader [Kalmbach] forum is like that.

Afternoon All,

Cleaned up the train room this morning (OCD feels better). I tried to run a work train with a RS1 at the front end but as they say fecal matter happens! First my Bachmann crane exhaust stack caught the tattle tale. I took it off and with a razor blade cut the stack down (it was fine then). Then I decided it would be cool if I had the Bowser ice breaking car in front and promptly caught the same tattle tale (metal from NJI), almost pulled it off the layout and was so stuck together I could not get the RS1 (Atlas Black Box) to move in either direction. At that point I figured I was done. I need to elevate all 4 tattle tales on the layout. I have the materials to do it, I just need to do it. Sounds like a weekend project.

VA Ken- Your posting yesterday reminded me of a story from Feb. 1975. I was attending Sub School in New London, CT and as you can imagine it was cold and icy. One of my class instructors drove a motorcycle to work every day. He was asked about it, to which he replied "A real motorcyclist rides in all weather!". I never forgot that and have told my daughter, her husband and my son that every time they whine about the weather. :D Of course I don't ride motorcycles.

Terry- Great video and photo. I was going to ask you if the diesel was the SP&S, but others kept me from embarrassing myself. Shhh....don't tell anyone!

Justin- Good deal for the extra cash. Nice pictures. The second one looked like the plane was inverted and going to crash! Just teasing you. Nice job on the houses.

Eric- Stay strong buddy. I know you are.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Those flats look nice, did you find the tycos cheap somewhere?

First .... I see this is your fifth post. Welcome to the Forum ....

The most recent flat car was at a hobby job on his junk table. Others were from trains shows.

Thank you for the warm welcome. In my intro thread it was suggested I hang out in the coffee shop.

I have fond memories of playing with Tycos as a kid in my grandparents basement. I believe my parents still have the stuff too.

I'll add my welcome for you too! Join us often - mostly we are a jovial group except that Curt is about to lose it with his signal lights and tattle tales. Ha Ha ... Good work CURT, I like your attention to details. One of these days you are going to have to explain to me the meaning of three? yellow lights? Be gentle - I'm kind of thick!

GARRY .. strange that you were working on flat cars. I was just looking yesterday at some Varney depressed center flats on Ebay. I remember seeing a few of them growing up loaded with oil field equipment and LeTournough (spelling) earth moving equipment. Always interesting loads.

OK, Youse Guys! I get it! Didn't even think about the "HOT Water Heater" when I posted. Going to have to watch it around this bunch - I'm sorry - Don't hit me again! I promise to be better (NOT) snicker, snicker.

Hey, JUSTIN, Level the wings - you are flying sideways!
I thought I'd take a pic mid stunt.

Photobucket seems to be having recurring problems of late, ads and promotions seem to be the focus these days. Since "moving" to Win10 I've found some pics will copy and paste straight off the web, a lot I have in my computer's files will also do the same. Some just won't and will only after storing them on P/bucket. Y/tube vids will now embed straight off the whole URL, not necessary to use the icon in "Go Advanced", but just the URL now doesn't.

The marvels of modren tekerology.

Well i havnt been here for a week or two, trip to the ER and then got sick as heck for a week. Feel better now. At work waiting to move again, heres a pic from my desk. Eastbound vehicle train, my job sucks! LOL

You're a TRAIN DRIVER, every little boys dream (well it was when I was a little boy) and you're gon'na shatter that dream!! Next you'll tell me Santa Clause isn't the one who's bringin' my pressies soon.

(Hope you're truly over whatever it was that laid you low)

I'm off to Port Trevorton, PA real early in the morning. I'll be able to stop by and watch action in the Enola yard on the way back home on Sunday morning, then I'll stop in at the Timonium train show then ask myself why I did that.
Too cold to ride the Harley so I'll take the truck instead.

Like the view. Brings back memories from my childhood riding with my relatives.

At the bowling alley now but won't get my hopes up for another 300 game. It only took 20 years since the last one.

Later.

Yes im good to go now, thanks. Im working as an engineer for now, hopefully i can hold this position till the first of January.

Many years ago, my brother, wife, and I were traveling to my hometown to attend my father's funeral. We stayed at a village near Port Trevorton called New Buffalo. Next morning, we went to eat breakfast at the New Buffalo Restaurant, where the three of us ordered Buffalo Pancakes. The waitress asked how many we wanted, and we each ordered three. In retrospect, we probably should have asked how large those pancakes were. I thought it strange when the waitress looked at us kind of funny, but let it go. I was hungry.
A few minutes later, we observed the waitress struggling under the weight of three serving platters filled with three of the biggest friggin' pancakes I have ever had the misfortune to order. Each one filled a serving platter, and there were three on each platter. I managed to choke down two of them, along with a quart of syrup to wash 'em down. My brother and wife weren't so determined, only eating most of one pancake each.
We were still stuffed when we arrived in my hometown, nearly 4 hours later...
Last time I was in the area, the restaurant had closed, as had the motel.

In the FWIW history department, my father was a member of the crew that built that portion of US 15, and we lived in Port Trevorton, in a large travel trailer (though they weren't called that then).

Good morning. It's cloudy and 37.
This weekend is our club's annual open house. This is actually the first open house since, 2013, if memory serves. The layout has been torn apart since the week after that open house, and we only recently got a "loop" of track down, to the point we can run something. You would think after that amount of time, there would be quite a few people wanting to participate in the open house, but it seems nobody is available. I'll be taking my heritage engines, to give the visitors something colorful to watch. Hopefully, no disasters will occur...
