Good morning fellers. Back in West Virginia again. Got back in from Virginia last night with enough time to run some trains. Turned on my momentum feature on my Tech 4 260. I don't use this feature much. I figured why not see how it works while building a shove to my loadout. It works pretty well. With some practice I think it'll work well. I really need to buy another one for my main. I have it dialed in to stop right where I need it behind my scene break. Also started working on my other camp house. Started painting it. Hopefully I get a start on it today construction wise. Definitely feel the lost weekend. But family first. I'm no marine so I can't say I'll overcome and adapt. In the army we called it being flexible. Boy I do miss those days. My marine coworker and I spend time wondering why we ever got out in the first place. He ofcourse is 41 and can't go back in where I am 31 and can. I got asked by one of our warehouse workers how I liked working with a marine. Told him point blank I have nothing but the up most respect for him as I do with any veteran. We all give the same oath when we come in. We all struggle in one unique way or another.

Good Morning All. 60° and raining. Seems like it started about four hours ago and has been light, maybe 3/4" total. Too dark to go forth and check the gauge. Not enough rain to keep the cats away from the back porch though!!!
Spent some time in the train shed yesterday afternoon just doing oddball stuff. Did some repairs on cars that were on the RIP track, vacuumed some of the layout, added sidewalks and interiors to a couple of recent structure builds and painted some more Preiser people. Ran a few trains as well. I dug out some material to make trees, a project that I am woefully behind on. I hate making trees even more than I hate soldering. I have enough material for at least 500 of them and need every one. Now if I could just find space on the workbench!!!
Eric - Damn! What gives? Surely the hospital staff knows how to insert the tube correctly. Still keeping you in my thoughts. Positive thoughts all around.
Toot - "Pelmet", haven't heard that word used in over 40 years. Surprisingly, I remembered what it was!
Sherrel - Rain huh! Did the neighborhood freak-out?
Garry - Some more nice scenes on your layout. Thanks for the pictures.
Ken in Md - Nice looking job on the slag cars.
Bruce - I hear you on the soldering. Not too sure what you are needing to accomplish other than replacing the harness, but I have twisted very small wires together and then added several coats of gel-like superglue over them to hold them together and insulate them as well. "Shade-tree" engineering at it's best.
David - Your post regarding the bread reminds me that it's time to start making some of my own. I make it in the winter when the oven can warm the back of the house and freeze it in the space left as I use up the vegetables that I froze earlier in the spring. Reverse the process in the spring/summer...maximizes the freezer usage.
Louis - You certainly enjoy holidays to the max. I am a bit of an old "fogey", I don't decorate the outside of the house because no one could see it anyway. Your neighbors must enjoy seeing the changes your front porch goes through from holiday to holiday.

Everybody have a great day. I know that I will.

Willie

Good morning. We're starting the day off at 28 degrees with light snow.

Garry - Some more really nice photos. Well done.

Ken - The slag cars look great. Can't wait to see the steel mil finished. Nice job.

Bruce - Good luck with that connector. At my ago with the old eyeballs I now have I wouldn't want to attempt a fix on that.

Karl - Nice photos. The backdrop is perfect for the scene.

Ray - I really enjoy seeing your work. Waiting the see the same spot with the scenery in.

Enjoyed keeping up with the forums on Tap Talk. Don't usually have the home computer on over the weekend.

Catch you later.

High 30's and wet out there, nasty.

Thanks for the commiseration on the wire issue! I can barely see the thing and just examining it was enough to completely detach the wire from the connector. The remaining 7 wires are exposed at the very ends before they go into the connector and that has been the issue all along, they will break if moved too much. I have no clue, cut and splice out side the body or go in and re connect them where they are supposed to be, either way I do not have the tools or the talent to even attempt it.

If anyone knows to who and where I can send this to be fixed, I would appreciate the info.

Good morning all - 51 and pouring rain. Should clear off later today, and the week looks nice overall.

Note to self - never spend 5 days away from the Coffee Shop - it takes forever to catch up :)

A few personal notes:
ALL - hope you had a great thanksgiving filled with relatives (nice ones), tryptophan overdoses, and football euphoria!
Ray, David, and other Long Islanders out there - I miss the northeast US, especially LI, upstate NY, VT, NH - those were my stomping grounds many years ago.
Eric - many others have already said it - we're praying for you. Hope to hear some good news soon.
Willie - Love those Model RR Rules
NP2626 - Welcome from me, too
Chet - congrats on the 300 game. I used to bowl in leagues, etc., but destroyed my left knee in a motorcycle accident while in the service. Now, I look like an escaped turkey when I try to bowl, which isn't often any more - sure miss it; loved to bowl
Garry - Really nice backdrops, especially the European (Faller) with your enhancements. And a great bridge scene.

My wife and I went to a train show not far from here over the weekend. Bought a few cars and a couple of structures. My wife bought a few mystery Christmas gifts, too, so Christmas is going to be fun around here!

Have several photos of our new build to post but can't get them to copy here. Will figure it out later. Right now, time for coffee and get to work.
Have a good day, everyone.

OK - figured out what the problem was. here are a few photos from our new benchwork, now that we've moved from the "dungeon" to the family room. Will have to take a photo of our layout plan and post that, too. We have the idea, and the benchwork drawing, but are modifying the layout (still to fit within the benchwork and area we have to work with). We have to brace the legs yet. Tried to upload another photo showing the legs - I'm salvaging what we can from the old build by ripping the 2X4s into 2X2s, and inserting adjustable feet into them. Seems to work really well. I'm using the feet with felt tips. Don't know why that photo wouldn't add to the ones below.
Anyway, the benchwork is going quite fast now, and we hope to have a temporary track up and running trains before Christmas.

Everyone,
Sorry for the double photo in the earlier post. That photo wouldn't show up as I was typing in the quick reply area. Looks like it appeared in the final post twice. Oh, well.
Johnny

Good morning ...

Ray ... Your track work is outstanding.
Karl ... Thanks for posting the bridge photo. It looks great.
Ken in MD .... I like the results of your work on slag cars. Your layout photos are outstanding.
Willie, Chet, Johny, David, and others ... Thanks for commenting my Photos.
David ... The doodlebug is a Bachmann model with NWSL drive.
Johnny .... You are doing a great job with constructing benchwork for you layout! It would be good to plan and make a backdrop while you can reach it.

Everybody ..... Happy Model Railroading !

Good Morning Everyone! Now, I know that you hate to see me complain, but it's 36 this morning - supposed to reach only 60. Rain is gone Bye-Bye, so all the desert is happy. lol

Johnny Raincoat benchwork is looking good. You are making fast progress. Sometimes I have a hard time keeping up with only one days' worth of postings!

KEN in MD - The extra effort you put into the slag cars was worth the hassle. They REALLY look nice.

DAVID in CA - I think you and I are kin? You been talking bout fixin that tractor all year. Yessir re, that's me for sure!

RAY - I'm with Chet!

I;ll be back! lol, LOUIS I like that too!

I wince when I see vertical legs along a wall! IF it is not going to be moved angled legs and bolt it to the wall are the way to go, legs get KICKED and things HAPPEN! Try something like this.

I got big feets! Had to put em way back! LOL! Plus I'm a "Schleprock" of the first order and if it can be tripped over, things like shadows and paint spots, I'LL trip over it and crash into the layout for sure! I overbuilt my bench by a factor of YOOGE because of my inept and clumsy nature! I will ruin enough stuff without dumping them on the floor.

Good morning. It's a chilly one here in central MD.

... Say Ken: You did a great job spraying the lime on the pots as well as the over spray from the workes!
Look very realistic. ...
Those slag cars are absolutely outa sight! Amazing attention to detail is one thing but the execution is quite another entirely, WELL DONE SIR! ...
... Really nice job on the slang pots, ...
... Ken in Md - Nice looking job on the slag cars. ...
... Ken - The slag cars look great. Can't wait to see the steel mil finished. Nice job ...

Thank you everybody for the kind comments on the slag cars! (Hope I didn't miss anybody, apologies if I did...)

... Now the glowing slag dump to model, complete with steaming slag! How hard can it be? ...

Hmmmm, funny you should mention that Bruce ;)

SlagDumpEast_950x600.jpg

That's from 8 years ago on my previous layout, a major PITA to setup and photoshop. It obviously can't be done as an active working model (well not by ME anyway...) so that's one of the reasons I want to place the slag dump "off-layout". It gives my steel mill operator an extra train to run almost the whole length of the main line into staging where the dump occurs out of sight.

Sherrell - glad your area finally got some rain!

Karl - I don't think BC has setup his Magnolia Cutoff module at any of the Timonium shows since you left the club. I really wish I had the real estate for something like that, or Garry's fantastic "Ms. Hippy" river scene, but that's one of the compromises I had to make for an industrial switching layout in a 2-car garage.

Johnny - looks like your benchwork is off to a great start.

Incoming call, gotta get back to work! Later...
