Garry - HA HA HA! Actually I follow all that apply to me. Rule #'s 7 & 18 don't apply (lone wolf and not a perfectionist) and #8 I figured out about 25 years ago! #2 is applicable only regarding freight cars as I don't do passenger...Santa Fe didn't run them in the era that I model (Rule #8).

How about you?

Willie

Good morning. 43*F and cloudy with a slight breeze here in central MD.

Louis - you and your family sure know how to "do Thanksgiving right!" Nice photo of your daughter and grandson.

Willie - thanks for the kind comment on the photo. Those are excellent mrr "rules" you posted, wish I could remember them when I need them LOL!

Terry/Willie - the reason for my seemingly dumb question about the blood-alcohol level thing, is that I haven't consumed any beer/booze in over 30 years. Before I quit I had the dubious gift of being able to consume large amounts of alcoholic beverages without feeling anything more than a mild buzz. Friends of mine in AA would talk about how they thought they only had "a few" drinks and were shocked to discover they registered over the legal level when the cops pulled them over. [I consider it a miracle that I never got pulled over myself:eek:] I figured with all the tech advances over the past few decades, there was some type of tool available to the average consumer that works similar to the thing that the police use.

... Ken, about the cars... Is there anything that says there couldn't have been a second purchase of them at another time, which would account for differences in appearance? ...
I suppose that's what I'll have to do. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to go get a rattle-can of Krylon Camouflage Dark Brown and spray paint the cars outdoors, or hand-brush them with my Tamiya flat brown [which I can custom-mix to the desired shade]. With the weather being relatively calm like it is, the spray painting option seems highly tempting, OTOH I would have to contend with the Black Friday crowds...

Here is a shot of the new unpainted slag pots in front of the old ones:

Everybody enjoy the rest of your day!

Bruce -
OH, NO! "Proto" creepin in! I put a couple of buffer cars in my tanker train as "per regulations"! LOL!
What's this world coming to? Two sets of feeders and now this!!!!
Seriously though, all of the action looks good.

Ya need to secure that hook on the crane so it's not flopping around while the train is in motion.
I'm gonna have to lower that boom so I'm not taking out my signal bridges.

Ken - The mill is looking very good. Many times in the ATSF days, different cars in the same car order for Santa Fe ended up in slightly different colors both from manufacturer and degree of change even when only a few years old. But it wasn't unusual for them to order 1000+ cars in the same order, especially covered hoppers.
Congratulations to you on recognizing a demon and beating it back. I was partially joking and I actually use the same criteria as Terry uses and it has worked well for me. I also don't touch distilled spirits at all, that was my demon. Been over 40 years for that.

Willie

Thanks "Gomez"! Now I don't have to search!

I've got the flatcars, axles, bits of rail, all I need is a small Caboose from my mix or a kit and it looks like it might even be within my modeling capabilities to whip something up. Y'all will be the second ones to know!

I'm VERY pleased the way this came out so far, I even got that "roller coaster" effect I was after on the back straight!

If ya use flexible setting caulk to glue the track down, you can make minor adjustments as needed to straighten out the track. Using nails will not allow you to make those small adjustments.

#5 was "thrown down" just to have that 5th line for the holidays and very little of the rest of it is in it's permanent and final final position. WHEN it finds it's home the permanent lines will be glued, and there will be more cork, nailing is all well and good for temporary lines but for those fine smooth permanent lines, glue will be my weapon of choice. I believe it will provide a uniformity of adherence to the "ground" even better than if I nailed every single tie to the bench work. "Flat" spots in the curves will disappear and though it may be more tricky to get the glued lines in place, I'm thinking the flex track joins on the radius will be smoother too.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving Everyone!
76 yesterday - supposed to be 76 again today and clear once again. I see that there is a possibility of another rain shower over the weekend. Sure hope it does not pass us by.

Wonderful Thanksgiving was had by all. Missed out on 4 of the grandsons who are back on the East Coast. I had two large plates of food and completely missed out on the desserts. Couldn't stuff another bite down. Gonna fuss at the wife today - maybe I can get her make another cherry cobbler .. it disappeared in a flash last evening. Guess I get to spend the day dragging out all the Christmas stuff again. There is only 17 Yooge plastic containers of lights, figures, nut crackers, stable scenes, garlands, candles, etc. WHEW! AND don't forget the 5 Christmas trees from 18 inches to 7 feet. The dogs even get into the act of the decorations, but their creations leave a little to be desired.

Louis - I like your "bar lights"! Your Mom sounds a little like my Mom used too!

DARNIT! I had a very nice long message going and the computer, or forum just ate it! Really need to use a notepad to create my posts .. this happens almose daily with me.

I tried to hang on but the inevitability of going proto to a certain extent is inescapable if I'm going to be doing this for as long as it looks like I will be doing this. Serious thought will be going into which three or four reciprocating industries I want to focus in on. I want things that can play off each other in an endless loop of supply and production. The possibilities are many and varied and each has + and - considerations!

Sitting here waiting for the UPS driver to deliver my DT402D. I had to send it to Digitrax a month ago because it wasn't working when I unplugged it from the UP5. UPS says I have to sign for it. Odds are, they will be here about 5:30pm. Sorta like having to stay home sick.

Afternoon All,

Everybody had a great time yesterday. I purposely did not have seconds but still felt like I ate a basketball. Today I glued in the LED's (non-working ones) in the last 2 heads and I probably will start wiring them Sunday. Saturday we are all meeting again for Mom's 81st birthday.

Justin- Very nice job on the house.

NG- Great news about the run time. Great pic with all 4 tracks in use.

Terry- Nice video and modeling.

Toot- Too funny.

Louis- MOH is the same (snoring). My Grandmother was like your wife about being blunt. Great story and nice looking family.

D&J- Nice looking load and video.

Ken- Looks awesome. You were talking about your slag cars previously and it never dawned on my that you have the steel plant also.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Willie I love the rules! Your Cowboys are really looking good, They played well in all 3 phases of the game and that ball control offense is a grinder.

Bruce your Army stuff is great and your lay looks like more fun than a barrel of monkeys! As for your cars to go with the crane just about anything will do. A boxcar converted to a tool car or parts. A bunk car for far flung jobs, on and on. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. The crane is cool!

You missed a good game, it came right down to the wire, but I still miss Barry Sanders.

KEN of the D&J!!! Great to see you!!! Very cool model too. I suffered watching the skins lose too, but let's see how the playoffs go.

Ken thank you for your kind words and your rust color on your mill looks perfect. I spent many years selling tires and doing service work in Beth Steel, A day spent in that place and my truck was covered in that red dust.

Sherrel I feel cheated by your computer, I think the note pad is a great idea!

I did not do desert last night either, 3 shots of Irish Poitin was my treat.

I wish I could come and see your Christmas stuff!!! Please take some pictures.

Curt thank you for your kind words. :)

Sherrel and Curt, my Mom is a real character, she will insult anybody anywhere, but I love her :) My Nanny use to tell me all the time "that's your Mother, the only one you will ever get!" Talk about two very different women, couldn't be more different!

Wow, a busy day in the coffee shop, how cool is that!? Jeffery would be proud, I am thankful I got to know him.

I hope I did not miss anybody, if I did forgive me.

Evening fellers. Nothing new to report on my layout build. I did however make it down to the lhs. Bought some more scenery items. So maybe just maybe this upcoming week I'll be adding some more to the layout. Anyways! Y'all know I'm all about my C&O and ofcourse Chessie. But C&O has a special in my heart. I grew up on the C&O lines. Anyhow if I've shared this before I'll share it again.

Before I forget. Willie those are great rules to live by. Track work I understand all to well. Funny thing about my track plan is at first I had no issues aside from my turnouts but nowhere else. Now.....my straight sections are driving me crazy!!!! But I refuse to let it spoil my fun. Only locomotives who pick up on my bad sections are my Athearns. My Bachmann and my Atlas locomotives run flawlessly. So I make it happen for me either way.

Tryin to upload them to Photobucket is like playing Wack-a-mole with all the pop-up adds.

I see that this place has been extremely busy today and that everyone seems to have had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Yesterday, we went to my wife's sister's for TGing, last Sunday was the get together for our family at my daughter's. Our youngest granddaughter (my son's) is 16 months old and is REALLY cute! Talking up a storm and wrapping everybody around her little finger! Can't wait to see her at Christmas!.

Today we went to Quincy to pickup my wife's brother at the VA home and took him with us to my daughter's, where my wife finished making a Thanksgiving dinner to take to the nursing home where her mom is. All of her brothers and her sister, along with spouses, were able to be there. Made for a nice day, even with all of the driving.

I'll tell a story about my mother-in-law from this summer. I was pushing my M-I-L around the halls in her wheelchair while my wife walked along side talking to her. A couple of old ladies managed to get between us. I had to basically stop and wait for them to move their wheelchairs by their feet (a VERY slow process) til they got to their room, side by side at a snail pace. Finally, they cleared the hall and I was about to speed up to get to my wife, when my M-I-L said "All right you son of a b**ch, let's go!" Her dementia does provide a rare moment of humour once in a great while.

Some great photos and comments! I really miss being on here as much as I used to be, but after buying our motorcycle, we put almost 12000 miles on it before I had to start working again and working 6-10's doesn't leave much time for anything else, not to mention, almost non-existent WI-FI at my motel. All of the kind comments welcoming me back here really makes this the best place on the web! It makes it like a big extended family and I like that. It's what makes this site the best on the web! Got to get some sleep now, I don't want to throw my schedule off too much.......later!
