Ho Ho Ho gang! (like the new avatar?)

In the spirit of the season, and since someone mentioned older equipment, I'd like to share something I came across when dispersing they Lionel Ho/Tyco/Bachmann lot of my buddies Mom. Lionel vintage HO billboards!

Ah yes. Behold the beauty of our hobby. SD40 went off without a hitch. My Blue Box U23B however....is a different story. Got lights one time but no movement. Solve that and now it moves no lights. Mind you I had lights and it creeping at full throttle. So I switched out the motor. Btw those things make some ungodly amounts of heat! So my data board is toast as I have tested another one and I have lights. All day today on this U-boat. My dedication to my few bb locomotives is unlike any other. Used to be all I had in my fleet. So I have a soft spot for them. I'm calling it a night. I'm burned out. Better luck tomorrow I hope.

Sounds like a short. Motor and all wiring connections insulated from frame including truck pickups?

I haven't looked into it further yet. When I had lights but no movement I had forgotten the spring for the pickup. I would think it is my ground for the DCC quick plug board. I'm using those to more or less to cut down on wires and also to do away with having to use resistors. I have two boards so figured why not use them. The SD40 yielded great results. My U-boat not so much but I'll get a handle on it this morning.

Good Morning Folks. 38° and partly cloudy this morning. Weather Underground is not working this morning so I have no forecast other than it will be light soon.
Out in the train shed, I spent some time sorting and moving stuff out of the way yesterday. I have a whole 22' wall left to complete the benchwork on both levels, but all of the lumber needed is leaning against that wall, in the way. That and two temporary storage shelves as well. I had originally planned to complete the benchwork by the end of this year, when I retired a year and a half ago. I'm close! Damn garden keeps getting in the way!!! LOL I'll probably only complete the lower level this month.

Garry - One of the neat things about these older Athearn blue box models is that they are indestructible. I have a couple that took a 4' drop to the hardwood floor over 20 years ago that are still in use.
Terry - Some of your adventures put the Keystone Kops to shame. I'm still not a big fan of online ordering unless it's Amazon which I have had good luck with. And once a store gets a computer involved, watch out!!!
Bruce - Yikes! Building kits from Santa? Too bad that you have to wait until Christmas.
Four or five ten car or more trains all running together is hypnotic.
"Hypnotic" I know the feeling. My brother runs seven Lionel trains at once on his Christmas-only layout. Now that is hypnotic. You don't dare touch the power cords on those two ZW transformers...the breaker box is a-buzzing as well!!! They were originally my dad's trains and one consist dates back to 1937 and still runs well.
Time to move on. Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning ..

Curt ... I like your bridge scene. The lighted signal looks good.

Louis ... I like the painting of the WM ABBBA locomotives even if Karl is nitpicking with his fantasy remark. ...

Ken in VA ... I like your NS locomotive and the trestle.

Cheers, everybody !

32 and cloudy.

Bummer, my aunt and uncle are not coming to visit this year, the last of that generation still walking around and they will be sorely missed at the gathering. She is having back problems.

Good morning. 20 degrees with a couple on inches of overnight snow.

Didn't get much done train wise yesterday as we took out youngest grand daughter to town for a Christmas play. She loved it. Had her hair all done up and her fancy dress on. The theater was built sometime in the 30's and ihas been renovted back to its original condition. For a small town, there is a lot of local talent. Great play.

Ken - D&J - Sound like you enjoyed the trip. The idea of adding outside power is good. Being out here in Montana, we do see a lot of foreign power coming through the area, including an occasional N&S locomotive.

Curt - Nice work train photo. Like the Alco.

Toot - Someone sure is proud of that locomotive. You could get a whole fleet of locomotives for that price.

Louis - Really like the WM picture. You sure come up with some good ones.

Justin - A little bit of work can quiet down the old Athearn locomotives. A little lubrication in the gear towers on each truck would be a good place to start. I still have a number of the nickle silver replacement wheels for the old Athearn locomotives. That was probably one of the first upgrades that I would make to them. Sure was happy to see Atlas come out with their line of Alco locomotives. That's when I changed my locomotive fleet over to the Alcos. No work at all was needed to get them to run great right out of the box.

Eric - A special good morning to you. Glad to see you in here.

Karl - Like the signs. I can use a couple of them.

Willie - You are making progress with the bench work, that is what counts. A few bumps in the highway (or garden) are to be expected.

Although I didn't get to spend a lot of time in the train room over the weekend, I did start planting a few trees on the hillside behind the roundhouse. Have more to put in when I get the time.

So this morning, the boss calls me in to his office... Never a good thing for first thing Monday morning...
Turns out, I had used the company credit card on my amazon prime account to purchase some items for the service department, and Amazon had kept the credit card as my default payment method for several purchases made over the last few days.
After calling Amazon, and getting the charges refunded, and, I thought, put on the proper card, I got anothe email from Amazon: instead of refunding and charging the proper card, they had simply canceled everything.
Including my prime membership.
Another half hour on the phone with Bombay Bob, I think I have it straightened out--I hope...

It's alive! Another BB upgraded. I actually had some newer wheels to put on this one. Runs like a dream. Ofcourse this one is quieter and runs smoother with really decent low speed control. Not at the level of the Chessie GP35 I have but good enough for a blue box.

Thump, Thump, Thump....

Hitting the wall with my head feels pretty good now, and I don't feel as frustrated.

Thump, Thump, Thump....

Funny you should post that song Terry. It had occurred to me. Guess I am old, they were one of my favorite groups.

ARGGGG! ASUS laptop on the blink again .. Guess I'll hit the Geek Guys again this morning. Fun, fun!

TERRY .. I THINK THE BOSS SHOULD HAVE JUST SAID : Merry Christmas -- by the way -- don't do it again!
Btw .. We have not heard of mail delivery problems in a while? Are there additional stories lurking about?

CHET. Nice photo .. I really like that backdrop and the way that it blends in with your layout. It's very difficult to see the transition. Excellent choice of matching colors from one to the other too!

Sherrel, funny you should ask about that.
Saturday, I got a card in the mail, addressed to someone else, with a different address, with an October date on the post mark.
Also, our mail now arrives in waves throughout the day. Last Friday, at 7 am or so, the usps delivered a package to me that was supposed to have been deliverd the day before. Some days, the mail doesn't get here until 8pm or later.

43 this morning with mostly sunny. They have missed the high by several degrees the last three days. They have been saying around 66 for the high and it has been in the mid 70's each tine. Yesterday was 79.5 for the high - no complaints from this guy - no sire.re.

Karl .. Still waiting for you to clear up the "fantasy" remark?

WILLIE ... don't be so hard on yourself. I am amazed each day at your accomplishments. You set the bar very high!
I just wish that I could find the "bar" again - not just the sit down one!

BTW .. I think the "companies" caved in too quick on the pipeline. Should have left those people sit another six weeks or so in the cold. Getting to where nothing can be built anymore without someone's objections. Should have heard the whining around here when SCE wanted to bring a HV line through the wine country. SCE finally gave up, and I think went through mountainous terrain - then they bitched about that as well!
