I am pretty much into English bikes also. Nothing but Bonnevilles. Here I am several years ago on my black Triumph hard tail. For some reason all my Bonnevilles were hard tails. My last bike, the blue Triumph was in several shows and I did get a trophy for it; my first wife hid (or threw away the trophy); but I got a better trophy...Joan

Never rode in a sidecar before...they say it's a little spooky the first time

Good Morning All!
65F @ 73% and raining.

Rain started about 0200 and has gotten somewhat hard on and off since 0530 when I went outside. Actually have puddles here and there. This will help with the fire situation around here as everything gets cooled down. Not hard enough to put fires out, but will help prevent new ones. I do not know how widespread or fast the storm is moving; hopefully most of Western Montana will benefit too. Roof quit dripping about 10 minutes ago but it sure looks like it is not over yet. Need more!

Ok, so I looked at the radar. Splotchy at best. Spokane getting hit, central Idaho is the biggest so far and it is all moving kinda north northeast pretty slow. Weather guessers say rain until 1330ish.

Later

Well, it's 8:00am here in NW Indiana, my weather machine says it feels like 90 degrees outside... Thermoniter says 80; but the humity is 94 percent. I have to get our outdoor deck furniture painted. I have only been able to stay out there 4 hours everyday...I can't take hot humid days anymore. Painting in humid weather is tough on my 80 year old body.

On my way to Helper right now.
I've got memories of Helper...I think. We rode my dad's pass (Boilermaker for the SP and before that, the Rock Island). I was just a kid and I remember asking why we were stopped so long at Helper and I was told that we were waiting on an available steam engine to "help" us up the hill. I think I fell asleep and missed the whole thing; 'cause when I woke up, we were highballing down the tracks

well you just have to trust the driver.
and it feels a bit special when you go into turns, because you only have one wheel that steers, so the wheel of the sidecar is always pushing. but i like it. and you literally sitting on the ground :D if your behind a truck you just have a wall of steel in front of you hahaha :D

Good Morning All. Clear and 78°, going up to maybe 99° just like yesterday. Hot and dry with a heat advisory for the rest of the summer months.

I basically took the day off yesterday from any heavy labor. Stacked the firewood that I cut Sunday and did some piddling stuff around the yard and inside the shop. It's still a bit disorganized from the tornado blowing off that part of the roof, plywood and metal roofing both.
I received word yesterday from the county that they have awarded a contract to a company to remove tornado debris. I need to get it out to the side of the road for pickup.

This afternoon, I have an appointment with the physical therapy folks to discuss my sciatica. Not sure that they can show me anything more than the you tube videos, but Medicare is paying for it so I'll see what they have. The sciatica comes and goes and this week is a good one so far.

I was out in the train shed for a bit longer than normal yesterday. I moved on to the next few structures. First, yesterday I misidentified the manufacturer of the kit used for the Fanny Farmer Candy Shop. I posted Smalltown USA, but it is a DPM structure known as Carr's Parts. Next to it is Flowers By Terry, a Walther's kit of the same name.
IMG_0513.JPG

This is actually a recycled kit from them that used to be called Bill's Glass Shop. That was also it's name when the molds were from Magnuson Models. The inside wall still has that name engraved on it, even though it's been spelled wrong ever since Magnuson owned it.

The last structure on the block is a DPM structure known as Seymour Block.
IMG_0521.JPG

I don't have a name or an interior for the shop on the right, nor a sign for the business on the left. But it has a small appliance interior in it.
IMG_0523.JPG

I noted something on the blank windows on the right, that I had spotted on a few other of the structures that I did this week. It also appears on roads, roofs and other things on the layout.

I finally figured out that these water spots were a result of the excessive humidity inside the train shed when the roof leaked after the tornado. I recall noting that my hygrometer was up over 100% (and couldn't go any higher because of a built-in stop), indicating supersaturation inside. I now believe that the excessive moisture condensed on everything.

Ken - Good luck with the garage door. I am not too sure that any of my 3 kids know anything other than pushing a button in the car or on the wall to get theirs open. When I was growing up, only the rich neighbors had automatic door openers, and they malfunctioned frequently. Not because of a broken spring though.
Tom O - Agree with yesterday's post that the Stock Market is not indicative of the economy. I think that a lot of the issues with McDonald's and other fast food employees not being able to make ends meet, is the fact that they look at the job of flipping burgers or collecting money as being a real job. They used to be known as entry-level jobs for teens entering the workforce. I do realize that it is hard for some of these folks to get a real job in our non-recession [?] economy, but they are out there. I also believe that there are too many handouts that disincentivize getting meaningful employment. Listening to my wife relate stories about doing taxes for some individuals firmed up those beliefs.
David - Pensions??? What's that? I actually get one from a company that owned our company for a few years. $254 a month is enough to pay the electric & water bills 8 months of the year. Not in the summer though.
Mac - Where did the video go that was in post #1186, of the beasts? I saw it once and I wanted to view it again, but it says that it was removed by the uploader!
Tom - Best wishes and prayers for your parents.

Everyone have a great Tuesday.

Joan says it's too hot for me outside...it feels like 95 with 83 percent humidity. So I'm off to do easier inside jobs...if there is such a thing as easier jobs

Good morning all!

Going to be a mostly sunny day, but very warm and muggy with temps hitting 90 degrees. Going to be a great pool day for sure!

I have been fighting an algae outbreak in the pool since we returned from Colorado. I'm wondering if the chlorine tablets I bought 2 years ago are losing their punch. Sunday I added 3LBS of shock and some flock and got it all killed off and sunk to the bottom. I then spent several hours vacuuming the sides and bottom. It is back to looking almost normal this morning.

No layout work yesterday, just ran some trains in the evening. Not sure I feel like working on it today either.

Have a safe day everyone!

I had a home project that should of been a little over an hour turn into a 4 hour ordeal!

I was putting up a ceiling fan in my daughters bedroom. It was a model with a remote and no pull chains. Old one came apart and down fairly quickly. I screwed the new mount to the ceiling and started to put the motor and base up. When done I thought I better test it. No love! I flipped the breaker back and forth and still nothing. I then thought maybe the light base had to be plugged in since the reverse switch is on it, Still nothing. Pulled the base back down to verify all was hooked up and proper wires went to proper locations. I then wanted to verify I was getting 120V at the wires. I looked all over hells half acre for my Fluke and finally found it. Wouldn't you know, battery was dead, no 9V batteries in the house. Had to run to the hardware store for a battery. Got back and I indeed had voltage and a good ground. Put it all back together, and still nothing. The direction said the remote was already pared, so no need to mess with that. I thought that is my last resort before calling Hunter. Found directions to pair the remote online, and it all works now as it should.

Good evening. It's raining heavily and 77.
A couple of weeks ago, I made an Evilbay purchase of an Atlas Gold locomotive, new in box, from a large online dealer. When it arrived, it was missing the radio antenna. It wouldn't have been a huge deal, except there were two empty holes on the roof where it was supposed to go. Contacted seller. No, didn't have access to any parts, and didn't have any more like it for exchange, go ahead and return it. I used Evilbay's return service, and sent it off.
Today, it arrived back at the seller's shop, and I was refunded--partially. I looked at the terms of sale, in case I missed something. Nope, seller pays return shipping.
It turned out the seller tried, depending on who told me, to deduct original shipping, return shipping, or a restocking fee. I complained to Evilbay, and got the fastest resolution I've ever gotten from them. Fifteen minutes after complaining, I had a full refund.
I'm not sure if I should out the dealer, as it "could" have been an employee's honest mistake.

Good evening. currently 78°and clear, down fro 88°and humid. 50% chance we might see rain showers after midnight. There has been no measurable precipitation over the last 14 days. My lawn looks like Woodland Scenics Burnt Grass.

My new Laptop is coming along. I finally found and fixed the spreadsheet formula issue that has kept me occupied. I still have to install the printer and transfer some of my internet links.

Now, back to the Orioles game.
