Good morning from a damp and raining So.Central Wisconsin. It should hit a high humid 80f degrees

I started the weathering process on a few pieces Saturday night and it continued Sunday. I plan to work on them a bit more today

Enjoy the day

Good morning from Colorful Colorado. I woke up in the Rockies today and ready to ride. This is in Nebraska yesterday:View attachment 195101View attachment 195102View attachment 195103View attachment 195104
All diesels are some kind of SD9 rebuild, real classics. Freightliner has to be 1970s judging from round headlights.
The Freightliner is post-1977, since that's when White's marketing agreement with Consolidated Freightways ended. Until then, the name badge on the front read "White Freightliner".

Good Morning All. Clear and 78° with the smell of smoke in the air. Neighbor just down the road is burning the trees downed by the tornado, and they have been smoldering overnight. The forecast has once again been revised with no triple-digits until Thursday; it only got to 92° here yesterday.

Nothing new on the SFW estate to report, granddog and I are doing just fine. Of course I am having to pick up a few extra household tasks while wife is on vacation. For those of us old-timers, every time that I type the word vacation, I am reminded of that Connie Francis song from the early 60's where she spells out V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N repeatedly. I then hum it in my brain for a while afterwards.
Got an auto-call yesterday from Boar's Head meats, it seems that they have recalled not only the Liverwurst that I bought last week, but the Garlic Bologna as well. Something about Listeria! There goes my lunches for the week!
I worked a little while on the sewage line yesterday due to slow drainage. Obviously missed the Rid-Ex application recently, so I had to flush the sewer line. Today is a return to firewood duties. Thank goodness for the pool!:)

More of the same out in the train shed yesterday. I decided that I needed another figure in front of Buck's Books but I didn't have one that fit what I envisioned, a person bent over looking at the books on the table out front. So I manufactured one. I have a few of these Chinese manufactured figures from Evemodels, so I took one and did the surgery.

The next structure in line for cleaning is Fanny Farmer Candy Shop. I think that this is another kit from Smalltown USA.
IMG_0512.JPG

I still need to add lighting to it as there are figures inside that cannot be clearly seen through the windows unless I remove the roof.

In between Buck's and Fanny's is a small scene depicting the space between the two buildings that Fanny's uses for junk. I modeled it just for my satisfaction, as no one really sees it anyway.

John - Excellent scene.
Patrick - In my opinion, there isn't anything better than well-made compost to make a garden perform. I believe in the old adage that you feed the soil, not the plants.
Mike - Cabooses are quite spacious as I discovered when I went through the L&N one at the transportation museum in Foley AL a couple of years ago.

OK, post was interrupted by a call from my wife.

Jay - I am now in the same situation as your Dad. I have no paid vacation.
I knew I would regret the answer to that question. At the end of one year here, I will have 40 hours' vacation time accrued. After five years, that number will increase to 80 hours.
That's the way it was when I started in 1972 at the window company. Once I moved into the salaried ranks in 1976, I got 4 weeks plus 10 days sick time. The hourly worker vacation has still not changed in all of the years since.

Today is both National Wing Day, and National Lasagna Day. I like both but I'll take lasagna over wings any day.
Everyone have a magnificent Monday.

Garage door repair will be here after 2 this afternoon. I'm not sure if he will just assess it and schedule for a repair in September or if he'll actually fix it. If the former, heck I'll just go buy a couple garage door springs and fix it myself.
My son, who has been in and out of jail at least a dozen times since he turned 20, says he doesn't need any college. He's a self-made man. He can't find any jobs other than manual labor. For a guy who's in his late 40s, that's not good. No skills other than a pilot, i.e. take this load of stuff and pile it over there. He wants the $40 an hour job but won't invest in himself with any kind of training. Can't write worth beans but then, he doesn't want to be a pencil pusher.
I think a large part of the younger work force is pretty much like that. Just give me a good paying job and I'll see if I can do it over a period of several months.

I must be blessed. After 5 years I jumped to 120 Hours Vacation and 40 hrs sick which is almost unheard of in the auto biz!
The place I worked in NC I had 200 hours PTO time after working for them for 12 years. Then they changed ownership. When that happened my PTO time went down to 120 hours. Then, after I left, it underwent another change in ownership--on paper. The "new" company gives 40 hours PTO, no matter how long you've worked there, with the attitude of "take it or leave it". I guess I'm not any worse off than I would be if I had remained there.

I got tired of my laptop not connecting to my wifi, dropping its connection, taking up to five minutes to initially connect, low connection speeds, etc. Tech support basically just shrugged their shoulders. I finally got fed up and ripped the old Mediatek wifi module out of it, and put in an Intel AX200 module in it. It's like a new computer (which it is, but that's another story). It now connects within 10 seconds of initial boot or resuming from hibernation or sleep, and connects at 150mbps down and 100 up. So far, it hasn't dropped its connection or hiccuped like it used to. The "internet connection lost" notification hasn't appeared at all since I made the swap. If anybody else has a newer AMD-powered laptop, this is a worthwhile upgrade.

Well, howdy there internet subjects and those who enjoy coconut drinks. I need to get some Coconut Rum.

It's Troy again.

Boss gave me the day off, since I sent the latest manuscript off to the editor last night. I've got a girl in Scotland who is an alpha reader - meaning she reads the book for content, plot, and continuity issues first go. She got mad because I asked another girl in the LGBTQ community to Alpha Read three books ago (main character is from the same group, and I needed feedback from someone in that community since I'm not).

Well, main girl said she'd read this one. So I sent it to her, with last night as the deadline to get back to me. Still waiting. Oh, well. Off to the editor anyway. I have a slot booked, and I don't want to miss my deadline with her.

In other news, in 21 days my butt will be on the NCL Jewel. Today was the first day to register for the cruise from Vancouver BC up to Seward Alaska. So I spent my morning doing the login stuff.

For NCL, you now have to take your own security photo... so wife and I looking our hot and muggy "What? Photo? UGH!" best stood in front of the white wall at home. Yikes! and to think I used to take photos professionally. I'll save you the horror of seeing them. those poor security folks having to check out & in 2000 passengers each day and needing to look at all of those pics.

Here's the ship from 2005 when we first sailed on her. That was it's inaugural season. I want to say we were on one of the first two "real" cruises on her. It was shiny, and still squeaked when she turned.

I love the jewel class of ships. One of the best designs I've sailed on.

Ok, the boss said laundry time. Even though its my day off. BBL

I worked in the trucking industry as a diesel mechanic. That's what I got too, though I believe it was after 10 years.

We also got a neat perk of two floating holidays that could be used as personal time. Didn't need to schedule them, just take them whenever needed.

It is the way of the world these days. You have to do all the paperwork, photographs etc. etc. etc. that (at one time) was all done for you. Get it wrong and no holiday.

I am looking at an old cruise brochure from the days of my first few. (Research for my new story.)
I remember booking and paying for the cruise.
No more forms to fill.
A bulky letter arriving with all the details and tickets etc.. etc..
Going on holiday and receiving the service as advertised

Norwegian Jewel looks a lovely ship. Post some pictures when you return.

Freightliner was our main customer when I worked in Canby, Oregon. We all took a tour of their plant. Amazing tour..although I don't think that plant (like everything else) is there anymore. Big portion went to Mexico. The Canaby company that I worked at moved to Michigan City, Indiana and I was the only person that got picked to move to that facility. Had a house built for us in La Porte, IN. worked there fhere 6 years or so and retired. Been living in La Porte for 20 years yesterday. Can't beat a small town and can't beat a basement either

Here's few more picks of the red SD9 since it seems to be a favorite:

There was also a UP diesel near by, i have no clue what model this is. It looks like a GP35 without dynamic brake grid:
