Hughie and Willie: Glad you're both safe. Hughie, great that your power is back already. That was a nasty storm.

Like Willie, I could use some rain.. seems every group of showers either goes to our north or to our South.

Today the Township's contractor, was working on our street, installing ADA crosswalks, and replacing some driveway curbs. Inexplicably, they only removed half of my curb. The new curb is poured and curing. Believe this is a precursor of repaving at least a portion of the Circle. It was last paved in 1987. The only thing I can figure is that there were two cracks in the one section of curb, while the other was intact.

Today was 90° but felt much warmer...I usually don't pay close attention to the "Heat index" because it's hyped so much, but they do have a point.

Hughie - Great to read that you came through with no more damage than you had. Even better that you and your family are safe. At least it didn't linger like Harvey did!

The showers from the tropical depression here lasted about two hours, but left 1.1" in the rain gauge. Wish that there was more, but in July we take what we can. I believe that it is over for us. It seems that the remnants are over on the state line between Shreveport and Texarkana. Right now it's just 73°, mostly due to the cool front that came through last night. Since it stopped raining, the windows are open again, saving on the A/C bill.

Good evening, after saturday yard work untill weakened from dechydration, it was time to "take it easy" on sunday. Paw Paw, Magnolia Cutoff and Cumberland was calling;)

This westbound is plunging out of Carothers Tunnel in Paw Paw, West Virginia. Interesting heavy haul platform in the consist:

Further down a former Conrail coil car with NYC reporting marks still visible from Conrail split up:

Quick trip to Cumberland:

Later in the day an eastbound in Carothers Tunnel:

And another lucky shot of older scheme leading a westbound:

What i gather from this is...if for some reason there would appear two more cracks in the "intact" section, the contractor would have to rebuild that section also (?)🤔😉

Just as you posted, I found it.

Didn't realize the Department of Defense had that many pieces of rolling stock! 15 pages, might be more that have never been photographed.

Curbing 07_08_2024.jpg

This is the result...Note, the entire street is blacktop over compacted sand... At least my driveway has crush and run under the blacktop. But with soil like that, no wonder my lawn browns up any time it doesn't rain every other day in the summer..

Current temp 74°, high was 90° with a supposed heat index of 103° Supposed to go to 92°. According to my device, the highest temperature on my front porch was 96.

Good morning, all! Thanks for all the concerns. guggle, guggle! Well, the worst is over. Unfortunately, power is out so we are on generator power. The whole of Galveston County is out. The power company web site says 2.1 million people are without power. Taking a quick look around outside I found an enormous amount of limbs down, not only my place but many of the neighbors. While the drainage ditch is full, it appears to be flowing and no flooding issues as yet. We are far enough inland not to be affected by tidal surge. That said, the town just east of us, on the main drag has 4 feet of water on the road. Houston has really flooded. Water rescues on going. We did get to use the camp stove for coffee.
We have a 18,000 watt gen, with a surge of 27,000 watts. So, if we keep power usage down, we can run the A/C. Camp stove instead of the electric range, minimum lights. I can keep the well pressured and the aerobic septic system working as well. While it's not normal life, it is a lot better than no power at all. Yes I could run my trains if I wanted to.😁😁😁
This was a low-end Cat 1 hurricane. Gusts hit 84 mph. However, there are reports of homes and businesses being destroyed, trees and power lines down all over. AND THE SEASON HAS JUST BEGUN.

STAY SAFE
LATER
A few choruses of Stevie Ray Vaughn "Texas Flood" coming your way.

Probably more than we are led to believe. I had no clue what this car was for when it rolled by me. Lucky catch i guess. Here is a going away shot of it:
