Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 72°. Wind is about to shift from the north and the high today isn't expected to get out of the low-80's. Rain of some kind is expected today, probably from the south, ahead of the tropical depression. Maybe not! There's also a front coming from the NW with light rain as well.
Willie, the cone of death for the hurricane looks like it's going over your living room.
Latest projection seems to put it passing to the east of IH-35, which is east of me. We might still get some light showers when we really need a good soaking thunderstorm. Haven't had a real rain here since June 4. There's a light band ahead of the depression moving in my direction, but it seems to be stalled out over DFW right now. As I post this,
Hughie is
probably getting battered.
Pool repairman came by yesterday and found 3 places where the liner was leaking, and patched them of course. Two small pinholes were hard to find, but he finally found them in the side on his second go-around, not the bottom. I knew that they were there somewhere since there was a wet spot besides the pool, and the location was more than 15' from the other obvious leak. It still amazes me how he does his job, scuba diving in the pool with a bottle of dye to detect where water is leaking out. I pay good money for the peace of mind!
While he was swimming, I cut another week's supply of firewood and used the battery operated push mower to tidy up parts of the yard that the tractor doesn't really do well. Still haven't found the grass catcher; tornado obviously blew it off my property.
I should get a lot of outdoor tasks done on this cooler morning today. There's no shortage of them, unless it really does rain.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I touched on a lot of small projects. Since I still had the weathering powders out to age those orange cones used in the rail repair scene, I weathered the recently built plastic metal storage building, that I built to replace the cardstock one at the Red River Grain Elevator.
Before:
After:
I completed the replacement of the HO scale ground throw with the N scale one. It still looks oversized but I'm going with it.
I next turned my attention to another water damaged structure, my scratchbuilt derelict barn.
The door frames are intentional, but the foil over cardstock roof is not. Roof is currently being weighted down in an effort to flatten it. This will take a couple of days. It's in the top of the picture below.
I also disassembled the next round of vehicles to use in the street scene in Charlottesville. All will get dull coating and some will get drivers. Trucks will also get dome minor weathering.
Hughie - Some of the dogs do indeed look a little large, but with both the cats and dogs, the camera angle is distorting the perspective a bit. Hope that you aren't washing away right now.
Louis -
Hughie and Willie our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Usually not much to worry about here from hurricanes, I'm over 450 miles inland. The greatest effect that they have on me is rain, usually welcome at this time of year. No winds (tornadoes do that) no storm surges, no flooding. Thanks for the thought though. See map above.
Phred/Guilford Railman - As others have posted, posting a link to YouTube or another site like Vimeo is the way to post a video here. Tik-Tok might also work, I don't know. That's why I don't post videos.
Everyone have a fine Monday.
