Good morning from LAX. You guys probably all figured before I accepted the fact I was going to meet the wife on Maui. I’m not a fan of Hawaii but I can handle 7 days

Met up with a college friend and played some golf yesterday in nice 85f degrees temperature with a calm breeze off the ocean. We had a late dinner (8pm) out and I paid about 3 times what I would have paid back home in Wisconsin. I have real issues with many things in California but the people I have dealt with here have been very nice

Enjoy the day

Morning all,

75° and mostly cloudy, going for 82° later.

We're probably going to day a day trip on a particular piece of old Rt. 66 as the Ribbon or Sidewalk part of the old road is about to be dismantled. The county in Oklahoma wants to improve the road, but when they do, they're going to remove all the old asphalt, then leave the concrete curbs and make a more modern 2 lane county road of it. They will lane mark the original 9 foot single lane between the now level with the road curbing.

It has an interesting history...

Otherwise not much going on.

You should try doing something official at the DMV - like registering a brand new car, purchased out of state, without enough miles on it for the Smog monitors to have enough data for a "clean" report.

I cannot recall a single time - with pre-scheduled appointment - That I was out in under an hour

Good afternoon, all! Just finished tying down and put away outdoor furniture, flagpole and trash cans. I tested the generator, dead battery. Off to the auto parts store, two other guys with dead generator batteries. On the plus side I found out before I needed it. Authorities are saying "have your preparations completed by 10 PM this evening". Beryl is expected to start affecting about 1:00 AM and last till 1 or 2 PM tomorrow. Rainfall predictions are between 10" and 12", tidal surge of 6 foot, and random tornados. we recorded 49" of rain here with hurricane Harvey, so we should be alright with the rain. Surge does affect our drainage, so we will be watching the tides. Tornados formed during hurricanes are usual small F0 or F1 that are narrow short lived.re

Troy - Happy birthday. Looks like your wife has some skills there.
Willie - some of the cats and dogs look a little large for scale
TomO - Safe travels
Patrick - I always wanted to drive at least a section of Rte. 66.
David - War stories are pretty much kept to oneself. I know of only one from my father and it was a need-to-know story. My self, I served during the Vietnam war. While I volunteered to go, I never did. All my war stories, except a few, end with "happily ever after".

STAY SAFE (and dry)
LATER

Speaking of Route 66.... if you ever get to the west end, it technically didn't end at the famous sign:

There is another sign... This one is on Ocean Blvd ... but this isn't the real end either

It technically ended a bit farther east. I believe it was at Colorado and Lincoln, up the hill a ways. Federal highways have to end in another highway (Lincoln) or an international border. Which was three miles out to see. Rather than build a bridge to nowhere, they ended at the highway.

Fortunately, the Rt 66 historical society declared the Santa Monica pier the "official" end.

So now craps is 💩 ???🤣
crap and craps are two different things. one is 💩 and one is 🎲

For some reason, or no reason, the word to be censored now is "crap" instead. No, I don't know why.

At least around here "crap" is not offensive in the least and only the least bit crude. Someone in church, today, was teaching an adult class and said "holy crap" a few times...

Good evening. 86° and sunny, with the smell of smoke from a forest fire in South Jersey. Today topped out at 89°. Projected overnight low is 73° with fog.
So now craps is 💩 ???
I believe they are considered synonyms. "P" which is an acronym for Piss is now used professionally. My mom, who limited her speech to "clean" words must be turning over in her grave.
what happened to Rt 66 has happened to other US highways
Hwy 9 which is / was the longest N - S US highway in Jersey, is incorporated with the Parkway in at least two segments. It also is merged with Hwy 1 from Woodbridge to Newark, then further split into Hwy 1&9 E and Hwy 1&9 W from Newark and the NY state line.
