Good morning, sunny and it will be HOT. After work yesterday decided to go down to Perryville, Maryland to see if any MARC electrics are still running. I'm disappointed to say i didn't see any. This was to be the train with HHL8, but MP36 is pulling in at 20:08, that's 8:08 pm for Americans😁

Some time earlier cought this MARC train approaching Perryville over Susquehanna river bridge:

Plans are to eventually replace this bridge with a new one, old age and the fact that there's only two tracks here, making this part a bottle neck. Speeding Acela to Washington DC:

This last one is something i've been hunting for; a CSX on the old Baltimore and Ohio over former Pennsy "Columbia and Port Deposit" branch;

This is looking toward the junction at Perryville station and CSX is heading north.

Good Morning All. It's like fall has suddenly come upon us here after yesterday's cool front. It's clear and 68°; it never got above 85° yesterday but we're expecting 94° today. Nice to have been able to sleep with the windows open all night. The predicted thunderstorms for yesterday didn't happen, we did have a brief light shower at the exact time that I was headed out to get into the pool, less than 0.1". All that did was settle the dust. Still waiting to see what Hurricane Beryl is going to do. We don't expect any devastation from floods, surge, or winds this far north, but we could get some needed rain Monday and Tuesday. Hughie may be at risk though.

The nice cool day yesterday was great for outdoor tasks. I had already moved enough fallen branches to allow me to mow some areas that haven't seen the mower since mid-May. Mowed around the train shed also. Ran the weedeater around the house as well. Enough water has evaporated from my pond to allow me to retrieve some (but not all) pieces of metal roofing out of it. There could be some hidden in the center that I can't see until more water evaporates; usually by the end of July it's all gone. Unfortunately I had a backlog of household chores to do as well!
Back to the normal grind today, cutting and gathering branches. I've already got a cart full of stuff for the dumpster that needs unloading so I can then fill it with branches.

Grill, barbie or BBQ??? Grills, smokers and barbies are devices used for cooking food, primarily meats. BBQ is a food group. Most Americans wrongly use BBQ as a verb instead of a noun!;););)

I spent time out in the train shed again yesterday, but nothing photogenic. I continued the under the layout cleanup which I am close to completing. i also touched up some scenery where the dripping water had disturbed the ground foam by loosening the glue adhesive. I still have a few of those spots to do but I'll get to them in time. I ran some trains as well.
I don't really have anything new from the archives to show, but here are a few random feline photos to see.

Everyone have a wonderful Saturday.

Good morning gang!

81° and sunny this morning with a high of 93 expected. Heading out soon to go pick up my brass locates that were in the mechanic shop. Tell him to bring them home and put paint on them.

Any word if they are going to replace the Bush river bridge also because that is also a two track bridge along the northeast corridor.

In my younger days, I have been known to waters ski through the uprights of the bridge. Not the draw span, but the small supports on each side. Ohhh the days that we were young and dumb and full of ………stuff!!

Ya mean like this?
CSX 1827 EB @ Aiken - 09_21_23 - Gary Pancavage.jpg

Gary Pancavage photo, (from drone I believe).

I have had the "pleasure?" of walking the Susquehanna Movable Bridge, and the full length of the Aiken connection. (dodging copperheads), back when I was the Czar of the C&PD. Needless to say that you get a different perspective when overlooking the Susquehanna from the B&O.

Good morning everyone!

Going to be a pleasant Northern Illinois day today. Highs are only going to hit 80 degrees. Several degrees below average, Suppose today is the day to get the yard all spruced up.

Yesterday I was able to run a train around the entire layout, It was a stuttering mess in some areas, A good track cleaning is need and the entire thing is only running on the small section that has feeders and a bus line. The main thing is it gets around with not much sign of any major track issues. really happy to be at this point!

Do you have sideyards and frontyards?😵🤔🤣
I wish my American born mother had been able to teach me 'American English'. Instead she had to learn 'English English'. 🤣🤣🤣
David-I have a front yard and 2 side yards, I don't really refer to them as front yard, side yard, When I go out and mow, I say I'm going to mow the front and sides. All the houses around here have side yards, so your neighbors are not right on top of each other.

Have a great day all!

I'm not sure about that one, or almost identical looking Gunpowder bridge. I would assume there are plans for both. The Susquehanna bridge is very well known so it's probably receiving all the attention.

Is the Aiken connection the name for the trackage just south of Perryville going under Northeast Corridor and connecting to C&PD back in the day? Back in 1993 while traveling the Corridor i saw that the overgrown tracks were still there under the Corridor.

Good day all. It is midday. A large coffee please, Flo.
Good grief! I go to bed at 1.00am. Have a lie in until 10.00am and I find the world is talking all kinds of English.

Americans telling me 'barbie' is Australian. Fair dinkum and all that, but here this part of England we call outdoor cooking 'barbies'. (I hate outdoor cooking..)

We have eight American people in our village. 4th July is a big thing for them (naturally). We heard the fireworks.

Backyards. I do not hear that word so often these days. Here in this part of England a backyard is a small space out the back door of the house. No garden; just paved if you were lucky. In days gone the outside toilet was there. Once the toilet/bathroom was installed inside the house a small shed was built in the backyard.
Your backyards are our back garden. The side garden is at the side of the house; and of course the front garden is at the front.

A chicken to cook.

Back later
Yes Americans have "Front Yards"
side yards have been used, but front or back yard is the common phrase.

That said, I just looked up a bunch of Aussie slang for a character in the latest book to use. That's always a gamble. I've got a couple of nice Aussie ladies in my review team, and they often let me know that's slang from the other coast of Oz. Or that they've never heard it at all despite it being on every Aussie slang website, including the ones that are from (dot) au websites.

Yesterday I got a Bachmann RS3 purchased through evilbay. The seller's description said it was her husband's, that it ran, and no returns.
Technically it does run. 6" at a time, with a 2 minute powered-down rest in between. I was able to temporarily bypass the factory decoder, and the motor and drivetrain do work well with the decoder bypassed. The way it's constructed, a replacement decoder is going to be a challenge, and Bachmann doesn't sell replacement decoders. "Maybe" a dz126 will fit, though there's nothing at all to attach pickup wires.

Most Americans wrongly use BBQ as a verb instead of a noun!
The English language is always evolving.
