Good Morning All. Clear and 79°, supposedly heading for 102° today. Didn't make it above 99° yesterday, once again disappointing the guys at the NWS who have been predicting triple digits, in vain, for over two weeks now. No steambath here as the relative humidity will be below 35%. They're still predicting thundershowers for Friday, with maybe more next week dependent on the hurricane and whether it turns north or not. Same old heat advisory still in effect, probably until September.
Yesterday I actually began cutting firewood again, from the trees left by my neighboring farmer that he cut down because they were scratching his expensive John Deere equipment. Those have been aging for several months now and need to be burned before the tornado windfall which are still green. I actually picked 4 Tomatoes that managed to survive, but that will be all until the fall. I took a picture with the phone, but I can't find the damn thing right now!
No outdoor work planned for today other than taking the trash all of the way out to the dumpster. Later, I'll be headed off to a retirement luncheon at the former place of employment. A sales manager who I have known for over 40 years is finally retiring. There should be a few folks there that I wouldn't mind seeing again. The retiree is connected with me in a couple of obscure ways that are not related to work. He and I went to the same Catholic high school in Dallas, although he started after I had graduated and I didn't meet him until he came to work for us in the mid-80's. He went to school with a couple of my sisters and one brother. Due to church activities and committees, he worked (and partied) with all three of my brothers and two SIL's. He often complained that he dealt with all of them and my parents from Friday night until Sunday night and then had to come to work and deal with me all week long. His wife worked for my brother in the church office for many years. We'd also meet at social events like weddings for my nieces and nephews pretty often, I have 13 of them. His wife is now Director of Alumni Affairs for the high school and I still see him at some activities.
Another ho-hum day out in the train shed yesterday. The only activity was running trains again, well that was actually a highlight. Things have settled down with the reconstruction projects necessitated by the tornado-damaged roof on the shed. I can't see any more things that need immediate attention. There's still damaged cardboard boxes on the floor, but I am in no hurry to deal with them until I get replacement cartons from Amazon.
Freight train waiting in the hole in Maultown for the approaching train in the upper right corner.
Another waiting in Vernon.
A meet in Vernon.
Todd - I love liver and onions, so yesterday's picture made my mouth water.
David - So sorry to read of the X-ray result. I hope that it isn't something too serious.
Everyone have a great Tuesday.
