Rainy day in North Carolina. Yesterday, we placed our deposit on a new residence. One story, same 3 BR, but only 2 bath, no basement but more square footage. No looking back. Lot looks bigger with no house on it it's hard to gauge. "Protected Woodland behind us so no neighbors on exposure D.
Meanwhile, our Jersey House has had several showings in our absence. We go back to Jersey, Monday, after picking colors and options.
Looked up to see several turkey hens and offspring wandering through my sons yard. they are eating their way back to the woodlands. Talk about Free Range.
The rain has kept temperatures down in the 70s so far....I'm chilled somewhat. Did not bring any long sleeve T's or sweatshirts, because NC is so hot this time of year. Surprise!
The Garage is 24x21, so there is room for a decent sized layout. HVAC or the garage will be a problem....but nothing is insurmountable. My observation is that everyone parks on the driveway.
Right now, it's 97 outside and 76 inside, and it's only 76 because that's what I have the thermostat set to.
BTW, what part of NC will you be heading too?

Pizza... Thin NY style was my favorite, round of course and I never ate the crust. To be honest i have lost interest in Pizza and I don't know why.
I was never much for chicken, I used to call it a useless vegetable, now I love it!

Good Morning All!
63F @ 54% raining - not hard/much but will take anything. Hope it keeps up for a few hours.
Deer Creek fire looks to be out or near out. On the way to Kal, you could not see 100 ft around you near Happy's cuz of smoke. On the way back a couple hours later, it was pretty much gone and all mountains and hills could be seen. No wind we could see, suspect there was a little. Fire crews were probably mopping up.
Dates: Wedding date is kinda st00pid. We were married twice - real one in our back yard, 2nd in Deer Park Wa the next day with most of the family and friends. So when either of us forgets, we have that 2nd day to claim. Good for ..um.. excuses. Even though Maria's birthday is an easy one to remember - I did not until we went OTR. Had to know each others BDay to just get in some of the drug places. Our 1st kiss I distinctly remember in my mind, date - notta - was a day ending in 'y'. I don't even try to remember the Gkids, Maria job.
Kal trip was pretty uneventful 'cept for the fire. Got to 104F in Kal and we just stayed in the Expedition as much as we could. Did not do our usual get food before heading home. I seriously thought to buy 40A 3 wire with ground for about 5 seconds. HD did not have 100ft rolls, which would mean a splice in the middle of the conduit run. Nope, and on top of that ~$270 for 2 50 footers. Could not find 12/3 with ground, so 2, 12/2 will work just fine.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 79°, forecast is still for 106° today.
But the weather machine broke yesterday! The damn NWS was off by 8°! The high was only 99°, due to early afternoon clouds. Broke our 18-day streak of triple digits.
Forum has worked fine for me for two full days. Fingers crossed!
Another dull boring day on the estate yesterday. Still using the electric push mower to attack some limited areas, but I am only doing 15 minute sessions due to the heat. Had to repair the Shark vacuum yesterday for my wife. Sorry, but that thing just doesn't work as well as our old Roomba one did. I did remember to top off the pool water, that combined with the cloudy day, allowed the water temperature to drop to 89°. There are no specific plans for today but something will come up.
Out in the train shed yesterday, it was more of the same. But yesterday was mostly running some more trains. Ran a local out to switch five industries in Charlottesville on the upper level. Then ran another local on the lower level to switch out all of the north facing spurs in Graham. I'll hit the south facing ones next. Found that I actually had two issues with the camera, not only did the battery need charging, but the SD card has failed. Not sure how or why, but I found an old used one to use temporarily until I get a new one. As I posted yesterday, I found a pair of trucks to replace the ones on the Athearn gondola, I have no idea where I got them. They have rotating end caps on the axles and are marked Kato underneath. But, I have never owned a Kato freight car! One of the end caps was missing, but I have a whole baggy of them from the recent ScaleTrains acquisitions.
My other project on the workbench right now is to make use of some of those "beach" figures that I re-discovered last week. Some of us that go back several years might remember these plastic containers that held screws/hardware in switch packaging in the 80's.
I painted one up and added a family to one to make a backyard pool scene.
I've never modeled water before, so that's something I will have to research. Any suggestions out there??? I'm thinking a glossy acrylic paint poured in thin layers. That's what I have on hand.
Tom O - Interesting that you brought up Pizza Pie. In my lifetime, Brooklyn was the only place that I have lived where they were called pies. I didn't hear it called that again until I went to college and had New Yorkers for roommates.
Mikey - Get well soon. Hope it's nothing too serious. It hurt me just reading your post.
To all, let's get those aches, pains and injuries under control. Tom O, Troy, Karl, Mikey, and someone else that I can't remember this morning. It's like reading a hospital log right now!

Everyone have a great Saturday and a wonderful weekend. My current weekend is now at 4056 days since retirement.

The ideas some of you gave me for the tomatoes worked like a charm. We removed almost all of the little ones. Bingo, the bigger ones are now getting red with no rot on the bottom's. Come to find out Lil likes tomatoes; green better than red(ish); raspberry's, blueberries too. So we have an automatic trimmer for that ..um... low hanging fruit!

Morning folks, site is working well but I did have just a single error message pop up when I first hopped on.
It's currently 91 but will become hotter today. About to go help my dad work on our cattle pens, most of the fencing is pushing 70 years old. Then sometime this afternoon head to the hospital to visit my aunt who's recovering from a triple bypass. Other than that, nothing else today's the agenda.

I'm very happy with the 18K mini split heat pump I got. The area totals 20x25, plus my 10x12 workshop, and it keeps it cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter without struggling. I paid $750 through Walmart, and $1300 for a local company to install and wire it.

Growing up in NYC if one of your buddies said, "let's get a pie", you knew he meant pizza. You took your girlfriend for a "slice" and Coke. There was a pizza parlor called Carlos. Arguably the best pizza in Queens. They had what they called Sicilian pizza. It was square, cut in squares. Thick crust with cheese topping.

I have an Imo's St. Louis style thin crisp crust once each week.
BACON, sausage, pepperoni, and Canadian bacon. Awesome! Best pizza I ever had besides this little mom-n-pop shop run by two Koreans in Knob Noster, Missouri in the 80s. Not there anymore, but I'd put their pizza up against anyone's.

Daughter's new house in NC has a 3 car garage. 1 bay is full of "stuff" (moving debris, bikes, skateboards, etc) the other 2 are empty. Everyone parks outside.
BTW, what part of NC will you be heading too?

Afternoon all!
Wow! Is it gorgeous outside today. Currently a very comfortable 79F. The humidity and dew point has fallen considerably since this mornings
readings. There is an 11mph breeze out of the NW. Last nights storms did their thing and drove this warm muggy air out of the area at least
thru the mid part of next week.
Spent several hours in the yard between the morning and early afternoon. Mowing and trimming are done and I cleaned up some branches
that had fallen and been set aside from our numerous recent storms. Grocery trip is done as well as filling up my wife's car. Mine didn't need
I drove very little this week and it will go another week. Pretty much done with all the household duties. Wife had laundry under control while
I mowed and ran errands. She even managed to make 12 mini loaves of banana bread. 6 with chocolate chips and 6 without.
All this talk of pizza made me suggest just that for dinner tonight from our go to place. My wife and daughter get the deep dish which is cut
in triangles and I get a thin which they cut in squares. That will be lunch tomorrow as well.

Oh boy it's been awhile since I've stopped in here to say hi. I hope everyone has been doing well. Life hit rock bottom for me. The past month has been a slugfest of set backs. However. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. I was forced to terminate my employment due to personal conflicts with my management team of my previous employer. Saw nine years of service go up in smoke almost over night. Start a new job Tuesday. Better pay and better hours. Closer to home too so that helps. Finances and careers aside though things have been well. Don't want to go through this again however. If I can help it. Hope all is well with everyone. Don't have a train pic to share but I do have this.
It's a P40B. Trying a new paint brand and wanted to see how it turned out. Eventually. Hopefully soon. I'll start detailing one of my blue box GP40s. Haven't decided which one gets detailed yet. The Chessie painted one or the GM50. Maybe put it in for a vote? That's all I have for now. I'll stop by again hopefully sooner rather than later.
