I got into the forum!

Rough night with the sciatica/piriformis.

Started using the IR heating pad yesterday afternoon. Shot for 15 min every hour. Boy did that help!

Went to bed on only 400 mg of Ibuprofen. Woke up an hour later for a pee run, and couldn't get comfortable. Leg was throbbing.

Tried the heating pad out on the couch... good for a short while. But about the time I'd tried to fall asleep, the leg would be throbbing. And I sleep left side down due to acid reflux. It's the left leg that is affected.

So I tried sleeping on the couch on my right side... and big acid bubble an hour later. Bleah!

Finally settled into the recliner, mostly reclined. I scooted the recliner back so it hit the MRR layout behind it about half-way reclined. Enough to sleep, not enough to let the acid flow upward.

Didn't want to, but wrapped the heating pad on the hip/buttock, set to it's lowest setting, and went to sleep. I know that's not good. But at midnight, facing pain and no sleep, that sounded like a plan.

So, today, the plan is to back off on the heat, and use it only when the ibu starts to wear off. Maybe every 4 hours? We'll see.

Good Sunday morning, Coffee Shop! It's 68°F (20°C) and hazy.

Good morning, it’s Bill, me and 501 guests. Bill has been here 2.5 hours already! The guests seem very nice today!

Its 60f degrees, the dew point is 61degrees, the humidity is at 97% and it looks so wet I could swim across the blades of grass, they are glistening! The high today is being guessed as 85.

Terry again has said my outdoor loveseat is past its prime. I said fine instead of storing it and the rest of the patio furniture sometime in October we will put it on the curb for someone to take. We can buy new in the Spring. Wow that did not go over well. Things are on sale now but if I cant sit on it in a store I am not buying. She is not much of an outdoor deck sitting person and I really don’t need new stuff. That’s twice this week I said no to unnecessary buying. Her personal stuff, her car or her office she can do what she wants but major household stuff for soon to be 50 years married we both have to agree on. I have said no very few times in the 50+ years we’ve lived together. Of course unhappy wife means, never mind…

Yesterday I had to say no to a friend and boy it was a tough decision. I love modeling paper mills but close behind is steel mill modeling. My friend of 30+ years started talking about end of life stuff on our rides to work sessions about March. He is a steel mill modeler and his HO scale mill must be 50’ long and up to 30” deep along a wall, like a big shelf as it is cantilevered. It’s a museum level model. The rest of his layout is a plywood pacific but extremely well done. He’s been going through his unbuilt and mostly unopened kits. He has a gold mine of extra Walthers steel mill series kits. He been selling and giving stuff to his buds and friends for about a year now but no steel mill stuff. In July he stopped over and offered me the steel mill kits for Free. But if I didn’t build them I could not sell them until he passes. I’m going to be 74 in a month! I am working at least another 6 months on a paper mill for a friend that is on hiatus till September because I have other projects. I no longer have a layout. I may not have a space beyond the 24” x 20’ shelf I have available now. We talked yesterday after I discussed it with Terry during a few conversations over the couple weeks. I honestly cannot see myself building a steel mill complex for myself in the next 18 months.

Miss unhappy just said we are going to breakfast at 10:00am if I was ok with spending for breakfast. Oh boy. I’m heading to the showers alone…

Enjoy your day

I don't remember the last time I was able to log in...

Anyway, tried my hand at making fresh pasta for lasagna. Used 300 grams of AP, 3 eggs, a tiny bit of salt. Kneaded for several minutes and got it into a ball. Rested for 30-40 mins. Cut the ball into 8 pieces and started rolling. Once I got them to the correct size, started layering. Sauce, cheese mix (ricotta, mozz), noodle. Make another noodle, layer again. Got 6 layers in before I was out of sauce and cheese. Last two dough balls are in the freezer. Didn't boil the noodles. Put it all into a 350 oven and baked for way too long - 1 hour. Noodles were pretty much annihilated as they were too thin and cooked too long.

Next time, cut the ball into 6 pieces and make them thicker. Cook for 30 mins.

Still tasted good, though.

Good morning. I just returned from Walmart Auto Center, getting taken the oil and filter changed in the car. The place where I live doesn't allow working on cars, so I had to go get it done. The complete oil change and filter is advertised as $58.99 complete, plus tax. Imagine my surprise when it was nearly $80. When I questioned this, I was told that price only included "in stock" items, and my Camry, one of the most popular cars on the road, is not one that they stock an oil filter for. When I asked exactly which cars they "did" stock oil filters for, I got a shrug. So, an oil filter is an additional $20... If only the place I work allowed me to change the oil in my car...

I just took down the patio canopy that is attached at four points to the garage and condo building.

With the big storms coming through, I figured it would be better down than up with a small rip forming.

In. the process, it's growing algae on the underside. I know, I could flip it over. Or get some bleach spray. But with the anality of the HOA here... and your wife's comment about patio stuff on sale, I'm wondering if I should get a cantilever umbrella, and toss the canopy, remove the brackets, and not worry about what the HOA says.

It's so hot out during the summer that I've stopped sitting outside. All I can see is the neighbor's tree waving above the privacy fence. And the Privacy fence.

And, no, the canopy doesn't affect the wife's sunlight for plants. She had to keep them along the North fence wall due to the building and garage shadow. The canopy just begins to interfere in that part in April and Oct, when she's not actively growing anything outside.

I changed the oil in my car on Thursday. Would have changed the oil filter, but didn't have the right wrench for it, so old one stayed. Caused a spill... so, decided I won't be changing oil at home anymore. Threw the oil catch container away. Will be doing this at the auto hobby shop from now on. They also have the oil filter wrench that I need. I can do the tire rotation at home, which I was doing at every oil change.

Good morning folks, 75 here and sunny. Supposed to get to 96 today with again possible rain later. Leaving for Church in a bit, shaved showered and relatively presentable.
Troy and Kuso, praying for you both. Karl, great news on your Parole.
Wow, spent a big chunk of last night going through locomotives for a show in two weeks, tonight will start culling rolling stock. Then will start on HO scale stuff. Modules are closing in on getting ready [to my satisfaction anyway, they're already usable] but I want them to look good.

I quit changing my own oil in the cars at home many years ago. It seemed more of a hassle than it was worth. Every new car we just buy the oil change package with it from the dealer we purchased them thru. Its more expensive but I can now drop it off and get a loaner and come back at my convenience to get it.

I so do the oil changes on the mowers, but that's it.

It is 6 pm, Saturday afternoon and the forum is really acting up.

I'll try back later........John

Right about that time I had the same trouble. Tried again around 2200 without any luck. I gave up after that.

The extra $20 was because they had to run over to AutoZone to buy the filter on their commercial account. So they charged you for the trip and jacked up the price of the filter.

When I was a hot rodder in the Air Force I practically lived at the Auto Hobby Shop. It was a meeting place for all the gearheads on base whether or not you actually worked on your ride that visit.

Good Morning All. It's clear and 73°, a bit cooler than the last couple of days. But still no change in the 10 day forecast, hot and dry with daily highs at 100°+ the whole time. Yesterday, it reached 102°.

Not much going on around here either yesterday or today. Yesterday was routine with the dishwasher and the burn trash, no wind. Today after church, will be the bed linen laundry. Most yardwork is at a standstill this time of year. Regarding yardwork, the tumbleweeds have started early this season, and the grasshoppers are really scarce. That means that the rains in May were enough to drown most of the nymphs and hatchlings...fortunate indeed for us. In past years, there have been as many as 25-30 per square yard. This year there's maybe 2-3 per hundred square feet, if that many!
Looking towards next week, I have a heavy medical schedule coming up. Cardiologist on Monday, Primary Care fellow on Tuesday and the epidural on Thursday for the spinal stenosis.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did continue to add disconnects to the lighting circuits for the structure lighting. Ran trains for a while. I also repaired a Longhorn. Somehow, sometime, one of them had an accident and lost three legs, a horn and it's tail. I think that I may have unwittingly set my elbow on it. I found and reattached all of the parts except one leg, which is still missing.
1786285720796.jpeg

I had a grand thought yesterday, why not look at all of the legs that I have been cutting off people that go into vehicles.
1786285802729.jpeg

Found two "maybe best fit" ones.
1786285864885.jpeg

Trimmed down the one on the right and got out the Gorilla gel and it seems to work.
1786285934170.jpeg

It's drying overnight and a bit of paint next, and no one but me will ever notice.
While I had the camera in hand, I took some new pictures of more bicyclists on the layout.

That last one is Daisy from MiniPrints. All of the others including the ones from yesterday's post are from Preiser...some assembly required. The Longhorn is also from MiniPrints.

Tom O - You posted yesterday regarding the humidity around Austin TX. It has always been interesting to observe the different "micro-climates" in our state. It's much dryer here 250 miles north. Of course it's much more humid as you get closer to the Gulf in Houston, than it is in Austin. Then there's El Paso where they get barely 8" of rain a year.
Michael - Our first granddog back in the early 2000's liked skunks. But he quickly learned to back off, not from the spray, but from the bath that he had to endure afterward!
Karl -
Ok, I did it. They’re kicking me out!
Hooray!

Everyone have a great Sunday.

I would have accepted that, except I watched the oil change person walk out of the shop. walk over to the shelf in the store, and pick it up off the shelf, walk back out, and put it on my car.
