pain management MD
My pain management doc put me on cymbalta that was going to put me in the ground. It brought my BP up over 150/100 and I couldn't go to work as I couldn't think straight (couldn't drive). Cymbalta is used for folks with mental issues, so I'm thinking that he gave it to me to get me to stop thinking about the pain as one of the first things he asked me is if I think about it all the time.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those not tired of Kuso's a@@ hanging out here,

it's Troy again

Speaking of a@@s, mine is going in the right direction finally. I'm not sure if its the steroid, the tylenol, or the chocolate chip cookies. Could be all three.

from about 4pm on, I noticed my pain had dropped back to where it was when I saw the Ortho Clinic. I rated it at a 7.5 when walking or standing.

Earlier today I had to drive to the pharmacy and to the PakMail store to ship out an ebay sale. I could barely sit in the drivers seat for the 15 minutes the errand took. And the 50 steps to and from the car round trip to pakmail were in the 9+ pain rating. But I got it done.

Told the wife how it went after mentioning earlier that I wanted to go to Mexican for dinner. She grimaced at my driving report knowing she'd have to drive, and that involves making a left from the parking lot onto one of the busiests roads on our part of town. On a friday drive time.

So I did what any husband in pain would do.

Ordered a pizza and cheesy bread from Dominos. Dinner fixed, and neither of us had to drive.

I'm suspecting tonight will still be rough, and I may have to retreat to the basement for the IR heating pad. I'll also keep the tylenol handy for the overnight pee runs. They're usually spread out enough I can get an extra dose in for sleeping.

Tomorrow I only have to take 5 steroids, and 4 muscle relaxers. The relaxers stay at 4 for two weeks. the Steroids decrease by 1/day over a week. Knocking wood that they're doing their job.

Good evening. I couldn’t post this morning and after the Crew left I tried again around 4 and gave up till now. Very slow buttI’m here

This morning early I deleted my short cut to the MRH Forums. I’ve been reporting the increasing religious and political postings within Rick’s Diner and the day after Dolly passed there were tributes sort of. Then one of the guys started in on how slutty Taylor Swift and another star are and weren’t ladies like Dolly. I wrote a reply reminding him that Dolly was asked why she dressed like she did. She said sex and boobs sell. I let the reply sit for 1/2 a day before I pressed send but decided wisely instead and deleted it. Instead since no action had been taken I have deleted my shortcut

The work session went well, the SIL makes a great smash burger and fries on the grill. Both project managers made an appearance to see how things were going. I gave them an upgraded list of products needed as this week we have gone through a lot.

There is an Operating Session tomorrow about an hour north of here.

Long live the forum

Good evening/night folks. Today's weather looked promising with dark, rumbling clouds; some areas got a downpour while others remain dry. My job and house are the latter. I don't think we even broke 100 today.

The forum has been a little slow for the past few days, but no error messages. Even though I don't comment every day, I do drop in daily to see what's the good word. Haven't been here long, but I don't want this forum to go away.

Good Saturday morning, Coffee Shop! Its 60°F (16°C) and hazy.

Have a great day!;)

Well howdy there internet peeps and those who understand poutine

It's Troy again

First the good. Slept through the night with one potty run.
Missed the slot to take my tylenol. woke up at the normal 4:30, stumbled to the loo, and half-way through the pee, the sciatic nerve woke up in a bad mood.

But, I got to sleep in my own bed, not on the heating pad on the couch.

Not sure if its the tylenol, the prednisone, or the cookies.
Now I'm back on the couch, with the heating pad. Took the first doses of everytHing at 4:45. Hoping the steroids and muscle relaxers keep doing their thing.

Now for the not so good. Got my wellness labs back. Nine tubes of blood drawn. Still have a bruise in my left elbow from it.

As expected after a month of heavy Nsaid usage, the liver stats were moving the wrong way. The inflamation counts were high. Wonder why??? ;)

And for the first time ever, my pre-diabetes screening was in the wrong zone. Now, given that sweet consumption was up all summer, i wasn't surprised. But other contributing factors could be a month without exercise, high stress levels between the PVD in my eye and the sciatica hostage situation my left butt cheek is waging.

Fortunately, my wife is a medical lab tech, ASCP certified. She took a look at the results right before bed, and said we'd be discussing this today. My time with cookies in the freezer is about to end.

I also suspsect that a membership at the Y is in the near future. Recumbent bikes may be a good exercise option for these sciatica stints. I've never been a gym rat. I never want to be a gym rat. Too many memories of high school come flooding back every time I see a barbell or a dodgeball.

Before Willie says "Pizza"... I dropped twenty pounds while we lived in LA, and we still ate pizza a lot. The difference is that wife and I both walked a LOT. It was too much of a hassle to drive to dinner. So I'd walk 1.5 miles to Mama's Pizza - half-way between her work and our apartment. Then another 1.5 mile walk home.

Moved back to Indiana, and I lost half the year's ability to walk due to weather. And Indiana isn't walker friendly. It's a car state. Mostly left turns because of a big race. But we drive most places. We could walk to Culvers. It's about a mile away. But walking in 80+ degree humid soup isn't how I want to get there.

Fortunately, I sold the treadmill. With the sciatic issues, I wouldn't be able to use it. Walking hurts right now. So, who knows.

So, no donuts, no cookies beyond the few I have in the freezer. I'll use those for the "take with food" prednisone pills I have left.

Keto: I need to get more oriented back into a keto mindset. I might head out to the grocery in a while and see if I can find a chuck roast to throw on the kamado for some poor man's brisket. But at today's meat prices, it might be best to go to Costco and get a small brisket. Either way I might have to get a 2nd mortgage to afford the beef.

Good morning Crew from the fabulous state of cheese, beer, old fashions and Friday Fish Fries even when it’s not Lent!

60 now moving to 71f degrees and looking at the radar there is no way we avoid the rain today. But with Mother Nature’s finicky attitude this Summer season who really knows! We need it.

The Crew Van picks me up in about 90 minutes. Thankfully today no chasing train detours on the way to operate

TROY, I’m not Willie, your mom, your spouse and I didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I am a practicing diabetic. I am also a pizza lover of all kinds, any Chicago style, the pizza from Casey’s, Detroit style, Tombstones pizzas or even if desperate a California pizza. PIZZA is one of the worst things to eat for a border line, non exercising and in constant pain for a pre-diabetic and a full time diabetic. That is going to be a tough choice for you. It’s a choice I make every time Terry says we are going out, where do you want to go! I could eat pizza 3-4 times a week as to me it’s in its own food group. All those things you mentioned are definite factors plus as we age many of those poor choices in the past about food come back to haunt us. You can still eat pizza but maybe once a month or so. As a diabetic for 20 years I can tell you and anyone else, do every thing you can to not become or stay a diabetic. I know back pain can be excruciating but it’s nothing compared to neuropathy pain

The forum is very slow but It’s functioning.

Enjoy the day

Are you sure it's not the cookies and donuts?

I've been hitting those hard all summer.

and Sweetie has Herman the Sourdough starter that she keeps making a Cinammon bread drizzled (heavily) with icing every weekend. I have a rather thick slice with my breakfast three mornings each week. (the bread doesn't last long. It's sooooo good.

As a diabetic any food can be eaten! There are foods you need to avoid but Endocrinologists don’t all agree on which diet is best for you. Carbs are bad in excess, sweets are bad in excess, dark chocolate is good for you unless you eat in excess. Carbs are bad but you need carbs to survive. Potatoes are a definite no/no. I am a whole milk lover but even now it’s 1% and 1/2 gallon of it in this house is rare. Your doctor will suggest I bet meeting with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes, listen and follow. She/he most likely will tell anyone how bad alcohol is for diabetics. I and any other diabetic can tell you what we do or don’t do. But everyone truly is different.what works for me may not work for you. Get a referral for an Endocrinologist and none of those online claims for curing diabetes work. Ask me how I know. Also positive thinking Issa marvelous thing, don’t overlook that in your research.

bad in excess
I think that's the key. I think all food is good. Excess is bad. Balance is the goal.

Two nights ago, my wife made a lot of veggie stuff. Along with my spinach, brussel sprouts, and bell peppers with onions, I had some green beans and mushrooms that she made. I only had one piece of thinly sliced pork wrapped around some shimeji mushrooms as I didn't have any room left.

Anyway, yeah, I need meat. I started getting the hunger pangs 3 hours later.

Good Morning All. Clear and 76°, headed back to 101° again today. Triple-digits are still in the forecast for the next ten days. We're now past the historical average of the last date for 100° days. However it was 103° on September 24, just three years ago. It has been 100°+ in October here before, but not in my lifetime...1951.
I continued with spot-mowing with the small electric push mower yesterday, burned trash (even though we're supposedly under a burn ban), stacked firewood, did pool maintenance and a few other minor chores in the cooler morning that we had. Grilled burgers last night, something that even the heat doesn't restrict. Today starts with the dishwasher and probably a laundry load. Tonight will be leftover Italian from our venture at the Italian restaurant Thursday night.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did the first coat of "sky-blue" on the backdrop where I am working right now. Over at the workbench, I reconstructed parts of the Import Motors structure. Several downspouts had fallen off; I found them all, and I also glued the roof on. Unusual for me as I normally leave them removable. I'll be adding interior lighting to it as part of this project.

Not yet. Our health insurance requires several other treatments like steroids and muscle relaxers first

we're jumping through the hoops now
So they're advising a multitude of treatments without looking at or ruling out the real cause? That's what happens when insurance companies run the show instead of doctors. The NSAIDS may be helping, but heavy usage can have very negative effects on various body organs.
Late note: Be sure to read Tom O's comments today. It fully reflects my feelings and my pre-diabetic conditions. Your diet of pizza, bread, cookies, donuts, etc, really exasperates diabetic conditions, along with potatoes, pasta and rice. Watch out!
Never mind, I see that you have already done so.
Kevin - Not sure if the thrift store that you are referring to might be a Walmart or not, but in nearby Denton, they have two locations. The location on the south side of town has a Sheriff's deputy semi-permanently on duty there most of the time. He parks on the sidewalk out front!

Notable singer Michael Jackson was born on this day in 1958. Chris Copping, multi-instrumentalist for Procul Harem from 1969-1977 is 81 today.
Y'all have a super Saturday

Good morning all!

Forum is behaving fairly well this morning compared to the last couple days. Hope it continues!

Kind of a hazy, cloudy morning. Sun is trying to poke thru. Currently its 67F. High is only supposed to reach 80F. There is a
slight chance of scattered afternoon rain showers later.

Today is weekly grocery run, laundry, car fill-up, etc.....Probably will wait till tomorrow to mow and trim.

Wife and daughter are setting out later today to look for Homecoming dresses in Rockford. I will try and sit this event out. Only way I
would go if dinner at Outback, Texas Roadhouse or some other steak place is offered up as incentive for me to drive.

Have a safe day everyone!

I 100% agree with what all the pre- and full blown diabetics have stated about nutrition. I'm neither so I can't relate, but I can give my .02 on nutrition.

Life is about choices.

I seriously cut back on bad carbs and sugar in March. I have all, but eliminated "white" stuff and processed foods. White flour, rice, potatoes, etc. Soda and fast food haven't been a part of my diet for decades. I eat lots of protein and vegetables. I no longer eat 12oz of meat at a meal. It's now 4-6 ounces of poultry, pork tenderloin, or seafood. Large salads of RAW vegetables. Grains and similar carbs (quinoa, lentils, barley, etc) in limited quantities. I have lost about 15 pounds since the beginning of March and I will not deprive myself of an occasional beer, dark chocolate, or ice cream. It does help that I do work out every other day. Cardio and weights.
