Morning all,

Running errands this morning and waiting at the haircut place to finish the wife's haircut.

RhBMichael: take a piece of fine sandpaper to the plastic sealing surface. You may have some micro scratches not allowing the flapper valve to seal. They make a repair kit if you need it.

Last week we discussed “furniture on the curb”. As I wrote it happens a couple times a year in the Madison area. You don’t need to be a Facebook member to read it

Edit: try it if you have log in don’t bother. They call it a hobo Christmas as leases end 8/14 and furniture get put out for anyone

I wasn't sure how active it was anymore.

When we would go up there, it wasn't uncommon to have a dozen or more different units from all around training there. Every other year we would have to be in the field for 2 weeks and the next year we got the luxury of the old wooden long barracks.

Good times!

Can’t see much from I90 anymore when passing bye. There was a military train south of FortMcCoy on a UP siding with equipment on it heading into the Fort. But when we drove home 5 hours later it was still in the siding but the 2 frac sand trains had both moved to the LaCrosse yards

Hello all, 89 here and heading for 99 with a H/I of 106, yikes. Didn't sleep worth a nickel last night so LadyC let me sleep in. She is at a Dr's appt right now, when she gets back we will plan the rest of the day.
Good friend of mine is a contractor and fell off a roof yesterday, breaking his left wrist and banging himself up really well.
You all take care.

These reminded me of what WWII baracks would of looked like. Everything was wood and white!

The buildings at FT Dix during basic weren't even that old and more modern in construction.

Depends on the year you were there. Reception at Dix was old WW2 era barracks with a modern mess. We moved to B-5-2 on Texas Avenue, into modern buildings with platoon sized bays. Due to overcrowding, I shared a room with two other guys.

First AIT Brigade had the most modern buildings.

Until they closed access to the base, I would occasionally drive through the base, coming out on the other end of Range Road.

Ft. Eustis used wooden buildings for the NCO Leadership School, Reserves, and class rooms. The 714th (Rwy OP), had the best buildings on Post. two to a room. Aviation training were billeted in newer concrete buildings, others in WW2 era Wood.

There were still WW2 Barracks on the back end of Ft. Monmouth when I last ran the Coast Line West to Bradley Beach. maybe 38 years ago?

When my son was in AIT at Ft. Eustis, I was surprised to find the old Wooden Barracks replaced by Base Housing. His Class rooms were still wooden construction....Some things never change.

that thread that has taken a back seat to gardening and yard maintenance temporarily.
I think that happens to many in our hobby. Take your time, good things are worth waiting for.

Only 12 species of birds this morning, although just now treated to a loon laughing it up overhead
Dave I'm amazed by how many species of birds you can identify. I doubt I could name a half a dozen. I may not be able to identify the species, but I do enjoy seeing their natural beauty.

I can name a few, Orioles, Cardinals, Blue Jays... 😁 ⚾

Years ago I rented a townhouse in a large rental community. It was always sad to see the stuff strewn to the curb shortly after the 1st of the month. I wondered why people let their life fall a part so. From my experience there is always work for those wiling to do whatever it takes.

And my brisket cook is done!

The brisket is taking it's nap in the hot box. Remembered to pour the tallow from the foil boat back into the wrap.

Good afternoon, folks. It's 100.0F even and 42% out on the patio today. Feels nice! Would have been here earlier, but got hit this morning with the nastiest ocular migraine (I think that was the term) that I've had in quite some time. Damn near blinded me, so a nap was required. :(

Happy to have the medical crap (literally!) over with. The procedure was a breeze, and no anomalies found on the lower end (not even a polyp!). From what the doc said the upper end amounts to mild gastritis, but I won't hear more back on that for a week yet. Yes, it was technically two procedures at once. Nothing to worry about in the results, though, which is excellent.

As expected, stressing about it was entirely irrational, but sometimes that can't be helped.

Oh, and one of you (I can't remember who offhand) at one point mentioned drinking the prep mix cold -- whoever said that, thank you! That probably made it as bearable as it was going to get; warm gatorade is fairly gross!

Now I can go back to thinking about trains. I think I've got a day or so worth of reading to do around here to catch up on threads that I've been ignoring though. This place seems fairly quiet until you skip a few days...

Have a good day, folks! I'm off on a Costco run to grab some soda, which I'm almost out of. That and some bell peppers to cook with a nice steak tonight; they've been keeping bags of six nice looking peppers in stock lately for a half decent price.

Why are red bell peppers so much more expensive than green ones? Bah!

While looking out my office windows is blue and some white puffy clouds, it got dark all of a sudden and rain is coming down hard on the roof. It's localized, as, like I said, looking out the window is blue and white puffy clouds over the valley. Also some random thunder.

In Germany most all cities and towns have a thing called Sperrmülltage or "Bulky waste days" once or twice a year. They post the schedule for which sections of town are on what day and you can leave anything like furniture and appliances and stuff out though people leave everything. Half the city goes and sorts through it all over night before it gets picked up the next day. When I was in Germany as a missionary in the 80s we got a "new" sectional couch for our apartment, a set of "brand new" looking old fashioned style china for our plates, an old bike frame I was able to rescue the crank innards out of for the bike repair guy to fix my bike with, and a bunch of other stuff at one place, and we always went out and spent half the night looking for stuff. We weren't the only ones out.

It was often the immigrants and the asylees (the people waiting for the political asylum applications to be processed -- from the Middle East, Africa, etc), and the lesser well to do people but you saw all sorts of people with all sorts of vehicles including high end ones out looking.

Running out of soda is a criminal offense in my book!!! lol…

Glad the procedure went well.

I will need to remember to drink it cold for the prep juice

I had the garden hose with a camera on it pushed into me last Thursday. They cut out 2 things that weren't supposed to be there. I called the clinic on Tuesday and the pathology report came back Monday. The doc needs to review results. The Gastroenterology clinic said that my doc is working as a Hospitalist all week and won't have a chance to review the results until some time next week.😐

The good news is that I'm not the only one who'll be waiting for a phone call.

Case and a half a week on Diet Coke makes her a welter weight. I go through at least 2.5 to 3 a week.😂 I have been tapering back though as it is becoming a bit expensive.

Went to Culver's for lunch today. Made it to the far northwest side of Wichita. Had a double Butterburger with cheese an fries. Still nursing the large diet root beer.

Absolutely! Just sucks that, like everything else, it's getting so damned expensive...

Oh yeah. 16.9oz 6 packs Diet Dr Pepper and family of beverages are on sale 4 packs for $10.00 limit of 4. I’ve been to the grocery or Terry every day since Sunday to buy the limit of 4. When not on sale they are around $5.00 to $6 per 6 pack. Coke and Pepsi products are higher.
