Morning all,

Raining and 65° this morning. I-35 is closed between mile marker 18 to 22 due to high water. That's about 10 miles from where I'm at currently. Not sure how much we've had, but that area supposedly had over 5" and it is a common flood area. You'd have thought they would have raised the road as it is part of the Turnpike and they do seeming random stuff with the road anyway.

Wife said she knew why I came back to work early was so I could get my 4-day weekend. I don't work Fridays and Monday is the Labor Day holiday. Not that it matters as we're not doing anything anyway.

I have 2 projects to do. We had the kids buy me a new self propelled battery mower I have to assemble. It was on closeout from Walmart at half off. They already had one from the same company and were looking at getting additional batteries, but this mower with 2 batteries was cheaper than a single battery. I had them pick up one for me.
Secondly, we bought a generator. It had been on-sale for a $150 off (good deal) until September 15th and we tripped on a online only flash sale for another $75 off the in-store sale price. I have to unbox and get it tested and ready as well.

Welp... already worked on my layout. Ready for a nap! ;)

Realized I didn't drill the wiring hole in the cross pieces for the fiddle yard extensions. So, eight 22.5 in long 1x3s drilled... Oops. Make that nine of them. Oh well, I'd rather cut an extra than one too few.

PS: I love my forstner bits. Sooooo much better than paddle or spade bits.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a warmish 76° this morning, maybe hitting 97° later today. Only supposed to be 81° tomorrow through Sunday.

Not a real productive day for me yesterday after getting up and feeling badly. Today is better but whatever ails me hasn't gone away yet. I did do laundry and prepared supper, but most of the day was spent resting. I cancelled out on the PT yesterday afternoon. The weekly grocery trek is still on for today; I believe that we're also stopping at Sam's Club on the way out of town.

I did spend some time out in the train shed and added four figures to the Live Wire transformer company. The first two were easy.

After.

Then I wanted to put a welder on the roof. I don't remember where I got this figure from, but I'm guessing it came from a Woodland Scenics set.

But he didn't look right, so I drilled a hole in his hand to add an acetylene hose.

Thought it was interesting that he is a lefty!
Structure is back on the layout, but I have decided that it is only a temporary home pending further development of some other areas.

Tom O - You and your brother have a safe trip to Mexico City. Interesting turn of events.
Troy - Good to see some layout progress.

Everyone have a great day today.

Good morning gang!

Flo, my dear sweet angel of the morning, might I trouble you for a cup of your finest Java, go ahead and stir it with your finger to make it extra sweet! And ask Mel to break some chicken seeds over the griddle, over easy with a side of bacon and light toast.

Willie, Great scene but ya know, you can't weld on paint! Maybe a streak of silver paint to indicate bare metal would help!

For those who don't know who Tayvis is....

And if you're a no-name minor celeb with a new product announcement, announcing the same day as that is how to kill your promotion.
In the words of Clark Gable, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Good early morning from Maui? It’s 4:24am as I start typing. It’s 74 heading to 85.

I have a re-certification session for scuba diving this morning at 8. 2 hours of basics and a 15 minute dive in the deep end of the pool. I haven’t dove in 20+ years! We shall see if it’s like riding a bike, you never forget! The scuba team did tell me yesterday, don’t worry about the suit, they have plenty of the ones for those that look like beached whales! They thought it was a funny

Have a great day

Good morning Everybody!

@migalyto and @santafewillie I hope you both get back to 100% soon.

@TLOC We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

If I missed anyone, no worries I always thank God and pray for all my train buddies. After all this is my happy place and it is the wonderful members and the Mod Squad that make it so. As I like to say, "You don't have to earn or deserve the Grace of God, but you should be grateful."

I was not very productive yesterday and today is not looking much better. I woke up last night a bit after 8pm. I checked my blood pressure, not good, at the bottom of the safe range. If I drink any more fluids, I should put a recliner and TV in the bathroom. I'm wearing myself out walking back and forth. I've been sleeping off and on ever since. Only now am I watching late night's Orioles game. I should get a seat behind the Birds' dugout. I have a few questions for our interim manager; they all begin the WTF... On second thought it is better I watch the games on TV.

I managed to preorder these beauties yesterday. Both made in the USA!

They don't count against my self-imposed spending ban. It's my world, I make the rules.

This one does count, but I gave myself a special "but I like it" exemption. I have the Lionel traditional scale version, but this one is a K-Line Classic, Photo from eBay. I received it a few days ago. If I already posted it chalk it up to a senior moment, low blood pressure, whatever. 🤪

⚾ Break

The Pirates brought up rookie pitcher Bubba Chandler. Is that a cool baseball name or what? This 22-year-old youngster has looked fantastic in his first two MLB games. His first appearance was a scoreless 4-inning save, old school baseball. In his second appearance again in relief he came in early and again pitched four scoreless innings to earn his first win. For a total of 8IP, 0R, 3H, 1BB & 6Ks. He has been a starter in the minors. My question is why haven't the Pirates (59W-75L) used him as a starter? It bothers me more than enough to see players making fundamental (stupid) mistakes. But some of these managers...WTF!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Louis, it looks like your “birds” are flying out here to the left coast for a good ol west coast arse whoopin this weekend! 😜😜 Did you see the Cubs last nite?

Doesn't a lot of it have to do with service time? If they call them up after a certain date the club maintains longer control of the player.

I remember when the Cubs kept Kris Bryant in the minors for a certain period of time before bringing him up to the majors errantly.
by doing so they got an extra season of control at a bargin price.

Honks the player and the fans off but its probably a smart business decision on the teams part.

All I will say is "never bet on baseball"

I did not see the game. I always watch my Birds and other pitching duels, low scoring, or keenly contested games when I have time.

I did see the highlights of the Cubs @ the Giants on MLB.TV's Rundown Recap. That was an ass whooping! Not the kind of game I like to watch.

Good afternoon all,

66 and mostly cloudy, breezy, a few brief shots of sunshine, forecast high for today is 74 with clouds. We had .14" of rain last night, just enough to keep the dust down.

Orders from the boss to take it easy today, too much chain sawing, she says. No problem, the trains are calling me anyway. I see there is one more kit to assemble, other than that I can start on a new building one of these days. For today, it will be switching out cars and running laps.

Some allergy has my nose running. Mine are very unpredictable, come and go at a whim, for a couple years I had no symptoms altogether. I started on loratadine yesterday, wife just noticed the bottle we have expired in 2020. Shows how often I use them.

My body is holding up well, however. Arthritis in the hands, knees, and elbows is tolerable, all in all should be good for a couple more decades or so.

Have a great afternoon all,

Dave LASM

Good point, but not in this case. Having brought him up after August 15th he will not receive a full year of service time and will still be a rookie next year.

They are more concerned with not losing Bubba's rookie status. He is a top 100 prospect. If he should win next year's Rookie of the Year Award or finish runner up the Pirates would receive an additional draft pick. It is an incentive to develop your own players rather than buying free agents.

If he pitched more than fifty innings this season, he would lose his rookie status and receive one full year of service time. Which is highly unlikely even as a starter. He won't have enough starts. He may only get another five turns if they put him in the rotation. He would have to pitch five complete games to go over 50-innings.

That is true, the team only has a limited number of years to control a player through arbitration. Once that ends, they can become unrestricted free agents. If they perform well, they can make big money through arbitration. Free agents make more, and performance is not always a factor. Other than incentive clauses in the contract.
Honks the player and the fans off but its probably a smart business decision on the teams part.
That is exactly what it is, a business decision. With teams counting in millions every decision counts.
As a die-hard Cubs fan. that was just a trouncing they received
Lose by one or a dozen, it is only one loss. Win two out of three and you have a great chance.
They have totally slid the second half.
If they right the ship by the time the playoffs begin all will be forgotten.
The Brewers are tearing it up in the NL Central.
They have returned to earth, they are 4W-6L in their last ten games.

Thanks Karl! I should have caught that myself as I DO know better. It's an easy fix.
You could add some soot to show he burned the paint off. If you really want to get precise you need an oxygen tank to go with the acetylene tank.

Welding with an acetylene torch, more precisely, oxy-acetylene welding uses a mix of oxygen and acetylene gas to produce a flame hot enough to melt and fuse metal.

I liked it as it is. Keep in mind, my favorite tracks have three rails.

We've already given you an exemption for the 3rd rail!
